So I went to the store today and picked up Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix. I'm getting Blade Runner: The Final Cut in the future as well but it will be in HD-DVD. So I got potter on HD so that in the future, I can get the player for it. To my surprise though, they have managed to combine HD-DVD's and standard DVD's one one disc! :O So after I open the cheaply made case you gotta put it in a certain way. I guess the non-label side goes up for DVD and the other way for HD. So right off the bat I noticed these tiny scratches on the clear ring in the middle. I'm hoping I didn't get a dud at that point. Well at this point it quickly became apparent at how shitty WB did on the DVD version. There are tons of grainy stuff all over the actors faces, and it generally looks like a low quality DVD. I look up reviews on this and find out this is common. The HD-DVD version of potter 5 was horribly made and people are having trouble playing it on their Xbox 360.

The HD version is crisp while the DVD version is crap. I also read they are charging more because of these combo deals. Essentially what they do is glue an HD disc and a DVD disc together. Also which just made me pissed off is all the extra's are on the HD side. So now I gotta pirate the extra's even though I own a legal copy. Just a word of caution to you people. *Heh, can't find just the deleted scenes. Can anybody PM me a link? Thank you.

its to make you think "WOW. im never going back to DVD! look at the difference!". they're trying to get people thinking they want/need HD, because not that many people are making the switch fast enough for them. what better way than to give them BOTH versions, and make the DVD one look like crap compared to the HD version. they think no-one talks on the internet still.

They should just include a HD DVD and DVD instead. So much easier than messing with a dual-sided disc.
Shouldn't be a problem for them. It's not uncommon to find DVD movies with multiple discs inside the package.
