BF2 Expansion Special Forces

you don't understand how a company like EA works. theres one team at EA that works on patches/new maps and a completely different team that works on the expansion. lets just hope the team that takes care of patching does well.
You're correct. I wasn't aware. Regardless, EA still has to pay someone to patch the game, I mean, I'm sure the team doesn't work for free. I have a hunch they're pinching as many pennies as they can in this area judging from the quality and timeliness of this first patch. Am I being logical here?

Speaking of cobra's I saw about 2 or 3 flying down at about 70-100 feet from the ground, they are sexy.

Yea. but because of the failure of the 1.1 patch, its very likely that the next patch will be good, if not have even more fixes that 1.2 would have brought if 1.1 was successful. imo

or maybe they'll just go straight for 1.2

One can only hope. But wishful speculations aside, a stable 1.01 patch being released in the next few days would make me satisfied. Let's just hope they tested it this time ;)

If a new patch was released and it isn't a major one it will either be 1.01 or 1.02, if its major, it will be 1.1...

yea maybe. then again maybe not. if the 1.1 that came out a while back didn't have that memory leak, it still wouldn't have been a major patch. yet they called it 1.1

"HOTFIX for Battlefield 2 v1.01 Coming Soon
First off, a HUGE thanks to all of you who emailed me in regards to the memory leak found in the update we released earlier this week (v1.01). Your emails found their way to our production team and they’re in the process of evaluating what needs to be done in order to get this fixed. In the meantime, and since the 1.01 update is causing memory leakage on some systems, we recommend that you reinstall the game and NOT the v1.01 update we released earlier this week."

1.01

I hope DICE Canada does a good job with this...remember BF:Vietnam...I'm sure it will turn out alright though...

1.01

yep, like i said. maybe.

however, you said that only a major patch would be called 1.1. then how do you explain the 1.1 they released a while back?

DiSTuRbEd said:

Yeah, there is NO 1.1 patch yet. Like Disturbed is saying it's 1.01.

If the expansion's gonna be about $20 I'll definitely get it. I dunno how people get it in their heads that it's gonna be $50. Besides, they haven't announed all the features yet. So far we've only heard about night vision, grappling hook, zip line and flashbangs along with night maps. We know there's gonna be some new vehicles and 6 new factions to play as and more equipment.

It sounds like it's gonna be fun to me.

Regardless of how much this expansion costs, I won't be buying it...

it looks like CRAP. BF2 literally just came out and they already want to release an expansion? At least give BF2 a few patches first..

..sigh

You guys are nuts. Stop complaining about them not focusing on BF2, do you know how big of a team they have at EA for this? They are bigger than Valve, and Valve have like 8 bajillion projects going on at once. Im sure that they have separate teams working on patches and the expansion. If they all worked on the same thing it would just be one big jumbled unefficient mess of people doing one thing.

And no its not going to cost 50 bucks, thats a full version game's price and expansions are 1/2 that price.

And for those of you who decide not to buy it based on what they have released so far, are morons. This is not a full feature list dumbies. In fact im pretty sure that they had a lot of this already done, and just were not able to implement it into BF2 with their timeframe. I know for a FACT that they had planned rappeling off of helos for BF2, but had some problems implementing it, so now that they had some extra time they can get it in.

Dont bash it until we at least know a LITTLE bit about it ffs. We know nothing at the moment.

Any sign of the SDK? I hope the mod teams don't have to wait until the 3rd expansion pack (last one before they made BF2) to get the official tools like they did with the BF1942 SDK. So far, both were scheduled to be out at or before the game's release... and both failed to do so. The last thing I remember is the BF2 tools being pushed back by a month or two with no explanation... which is eerily familiar. I think they just put on a show of support by saying they will support mods so that more people will buy it... and then wait until they've milked all of the money out of the game through expansions before they actually release the tools so the expansions won't have to compete with big mods.

EDIT: Typo.

I think vehicles dominate a bit too much in most of the bf2 maps anyway- so ill be glad to see a much more infantry based combat game (like they said bf2 was going to be lol)

I couldn't care less for this expansion; it looks like more uninspiring trash scraped straight from the bottom of the barrel. I'd much rather see the current issues fixed soon, as well as the SDK. Unfortunately I must admit that I share OCybrManO's thoughts on the SDK, and I can't see it being released for some time now.

actually. no.

you never checked your version number in game when you installed the patch did you?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v81/poseyjmac/bf2_11.jpg

*yawn* whether or not they call it 1.01 somewhere else, its called 1.1 ingame. so im right and you're wrong. word of advice. get your facts straight before you challenge me, or get owned.

I think you're taking it a little too seriously. No-one likes a pedant.

One minor thing.

This Expansion Pack is being made by DICE Canada who are a entirely different entity to DICE. The patching is still going on. A different development studio is making the expansion pack.

Also, your underestimating the amount of new stuff here as well. Did you read the bit about all the Special Forces getting their own custom loadouts with new weapons and such? Thats a rair sized amount of new stuff.

I still think it's way to soon for an expantion pack...at least let people soak up the original game before you throw another at us :P

awesome! Battle-Strike!!

toldya it was comin' :P

(didn't Dice canada make BF:V... oh goodies)

anywhoo, my 9800 pro just blew out yesterday in the sweltering heat here (while my bro was playing BF2 constantly), fun stuff. if it had happened a month ago I would have gone ape-shit... but since I don't play games (or am not currently anyway) Im lucky to not have to worry about it :D

Just because it said 1.1 ingame doesn't mean thats right, if its called 1.01 straight from EA, thats what it is, THEY made the patch.

haha. so then the 1.1 displayed in game, didn't come straight from EA? let me guess, it came straight from blizzard, or valve? they must have done it!

take your time...

Blizzard takes 2 years to patch, so it couldn't have been them.

get some air conditioning and get back in the war soldier! thats an order.

God damn, six new armies.

Looking forward to this. I want a stealth bomber god dammit. We already have laser guided bombers, now all we need are the stealthers that don't show up on any form of radar and just wreak ****ing havoc.

otherwise he would be mowing a lot of lawns this summer to pay for a new one i presume.

There's only one way i'm gunna get this and that is if everything and I mean everything is technicly corret. I want SAS with Diemaco C-7/C-8 rifles/carbines, because, contrary to popular belief they DONT use the M4/M16 now. I want Spetznas with AN-94 rifles, I want (continues on to provide a very long, boring and ultimaly pointless list which it was best to cut because none of it will ever happen)... but most of all I want "Pink Panthers/Pinkies" (depends on who you talk to but the samething when it boils down to it) for the SAS but I know i wont get them either... oh well, it could be worse, it could be raining....

How about they fix the current game instead of work on an expansion? Just a thought.

EDIT: I read the rest of the thread and I understand that the patch developers and the expansion developers are separate. But, the game still needs fixing. Why even announce an expansion without fixing all the problems with the original game? The expansion sounds like a joke to me anyway. It reminds me of the Sims and how they ended up with like 10 expansions.

"Battlefield 2: Army Reserves" is next I guess.

Fixing the game would be good, but it wont happen, because this is EA. Also, i agree this is quite MOD like and we will probubly end up with tons of them all slightly different and claimbing to be "a new and exiting prospect for gamers" and all costing far too much, but that's just my opinion.

Personally I think this expansion could be fun. I mean, let's face it- when has ANY battlefield expansion actually redefines the game, like you're all expecting? All they add is new viechles and new maps (I don't really count armies as they're PART of the maps). Were you honestly expecting anything more? If you take this expansion for what it really is: an expansion and not some sort of modification or remake, then you probably wont be dissapointed.

That's because WoW's already perfect :| Now they're just adding new content \o/

well if you examine a little bit of bf history you will know that the original bf 1942 only truly became a complete game by the 1.06 patch (if my memory serves me right)

bf2 already has 2 patches under its belt already with another one coming out at the end of august. The game has only been out for 2 months. So i'd say that the devs in charge of patching are hard at work.

Personally, i can't wait for the exp pack. By the time it comes out, the game will be nicely patched and i'll be able to enjoy using rappel lines and nightvision and apaches.

and shit, if the game is not to your liking, dl a mod that is

Heh...you seem to be in the thread-reviving mood right now Flyingdebris :P

I too am looking forward to this expansion. Infantry combat kicks ass in BF2 and I can't wait to see even more enhancements to it.

heh, i figured i'd go explore the other parts of the hl2.net forum other than the hl2 substance thread

I'd bet it will be at least $40, probably $50. Every expansion i've bought in the past 2 years has been.
