Holy shit.


FEATURES
o Additional support for Windows Vista.
o Added Highway Tampa as a required map.
o Added a new map called Operation Blue Pearl.
o Added support for Widescreen resolutions
o Added support for the Novint Falcon controller - www.novint.com
GAMEPLAY TWEAKS
o Changes made to both the J10 and F35B to make them more balanced. Please note that the J10 is a superior dogfighter to the F35B and as such these two aircraft will never be equally matched.
o AA targeting tweaked to make it more effective.
o Added checks to prevent "runway grieving".
o Various changes made to prevent cheating.
o Tweaked the hit detection, hits will be more accurate to the model.
o Increased the time to go prone after jumping from 0.3 seconds to 0.7 seconds
o Fixed G36E HUD during sprinting to match other weapons.

The included Tampa map is a nice addition. Seems like infantry will get wtfpooned without a vehicle. No cover anywhere. Black Pearl is a Chinese swamp style map. All the servers seem to be running it atm.
 
Tampa is a HORRIBLE map. It's just a fleet of tanks running towards the sprawled out spawn points. Very slow action and just..boring.

As for Black Pearl, it reminds me of Sangua, which isn't really a bad thing. Back when I would play in a teamwork oriented squad, it was one of my favorite maps!

I really can't wait to give this a try.
 
Any word on the final release (ie. when)?

I wonder if patching the game with the beta patch will cause any problems with PRM.

I'd imagine it may. Just make another folder titled BF2 1.41 and copy everything from your original bf2 install to that folder, then install the 1.5 patch. That way you can keep that available to ya.
 
No shit, this game is still alive? I might have to reinstall it.
 
The two new maps (hadn't played Tampa yet) are quite ok. And running the game without a disc is nice as well. But it still runs like dick. Stutters after respawning and stuff. It's fun though, glad I reinstalled it.
 
cant seem to find many populated servers for this. maybe they just havent updated yet.
 
The new map is an absolute bitch if you start off as USMC and can't get past the first point in a boat or APC. You really haveto be quick out of the blocks or have a competent commander who can arty the first CP. Every Chinese just spawns on the nearest point to the water and AT's the ass out of everything. Had a few stalemates where we couldnt even get on land as USMC coz of it. The map is enjoyable though. There were times when I would have liked a jeep too.

Maybe I should reinstall this.

I remember I had to play on an old Pentium 3 before and it took AGES to load any map, so I stopped playing. Especially when the patches made the load times even slower.
 
Right now, with a decent PC, it loads maps within a minute.
 
I was holding off getting BF2 due to its age, but if it's still active and supported...
 
Tried this out a day or so ago. There were only 3 servers that had people in them. Didn't really notice anything new. Already uninstalled it.
 
So far from what I've monitored bugger all people using the patch down here.
 
Yeah, I couldn't even find that many servers with the patch up. I'll give it a little more time....it's not like this patch was expected after so many years lol.

It's a full patch isn't it? So that'll include all the changes since 1.0, new weapon models, UAV model etc.
 
The FULL 1.41 patch was, what 500 meg to 1 gig, wasn't it?
 
Yeah BF2 patches are biiiig! Don't understand how though...
 
Kinda puts me off downloading all those massive files again, takes 2 days to get the thing working again. Then once I'm in a server, punkbuster usually kicks me for not having updated it.

Also, I'll only play if there is a HL2.net squad in the server, otherwise the memories hurt too much.

Yeah, that's about the way I am. I went alone and it just wasn't that fun. Needs friends, still.
 
I installed the patch, and I regret it.

I can't find any servers with good latency anymore, and if there's one it's empty.
 
The sad part is BF2 hasn't even aged that poorly (other than the widescreen support bullshit). It still looks decent for the massive scale of the maps and all the action going on -- and doesn't feel twitchy. DICE really knows how to make a game engine scale and seems to be getting better on the network code department.

Here's to hoping that there's a Battlefield 3 developed specifically for PCs with 128 player support! (and either a halfway decent server browser or Steam integration)

Oh, also, comprehensive SDK for total conversion opportunities.

I can dream, can't I?
 
Played the new map, it's like karkand with the PLA and a blue fog instead of a yellow one. Not a bad map but damn there's like three servers and two are empty, what gives?
 
I was wondering that also. Makes it damn near impossible to play this.
 
No one really cares enough to update BF2 with a beta patch.
 
For any of you guys who want to reminisce about BF2, I have put two articles on The Reticule recently about the game.

Been playing the game a fair bit the past week or so, god it is still so good :D
