BF2142 demo out on torrent sites

Played it for a half hour and it was garbage.
 
Does BF2142 have any new graphical enhancements to the BF2 engine, such as HDR lighting, rim lighting, & bump mapping?

If this is'nt the case I will not buy this. I will be happy with Forgotten Hope 2, POE-2, Rising Conflicts, USI etc.
 
Not bad, especially the Titan mode, the mechs and the pods :)D), but crappy weapons and the fact that otherwise it isnt very different from BF2 means I'll probably won't be getting this.
Meh.

This won't be no Assault you mean, the game hasn't changed since Wolfenstien : ET. Really though I've watched the trailers, the game play vids and the quakecon vids and all I see is get from point A to point B. Titan mode seems different in the fact you need to hold several locations whilst attacking or defending your own giant fortress which can move.

HL2 Episode 2 is literally Half Life 2 with some new levels. Sheesh anyone can dumb down a game to that level. BF2 is completely different to 2142. More team orientated, no more jet whoring, balancing, new storyline, new setting, etc.

Sigh I expect most of your are just going along with the flow and agreeing with all the arrogant fools who still play BF2 but won't give 2142 a chance.
 
I have given 2142 a very good chance so far, and from what ive played i intend to buy 2142 and play the full version. The weapons are hard to get used to but not actually that bad.
I give the demo a solid 6/10
 
Is it strange that BF2142's load times are alot shorter than BF2's?

And that it runs better for me than BF2? :|
 
BF2's load times have been drastically reduced since the 1.4 patch... which is good. I'm downloading this now... will not be able to play till tommorow morning though. :(
 
Is it still worth it to preorder the game from Gamestop/EB? Free upgrade in rank from the moment you start!
Also, do you get it from in the store or just online preordering?
 
It's not that bad.

I agree that it's just like Vietnam was to BF1942, but I bought it and loved it.

I intend to buy BF2142 when the price goes down to $30.
 
The main reason I've seen for people saying the games sucks is because they can no longer whore it up in a tank/attack heli. Yes the vehicles have differed roles now, get used to it and you'll play well.

Walkers will kill a tank at close range but tanks will kill a walker at distance.

"It feels like a mod" - Funny how no BF2 mod is currently as popular as the demo. What the heck did you want? It's a Battlefield game the core has been the same since 1942, much like any game sequel. Also so? it's a bloody entertaining game and if your willing to dismiss it on the basic it "feels" like a mod your missing out.

Man EA should pay me for this shit.

I have yet to even try out a walker, those things are gone as soon as they spawn. :(

Gah, playing BF2142 makes me want to play Quake Wars even more for some reason.

On every episode so far, Valve has optimized the engine, added some graphical enhancements, and pushed the Steam engine past it's limit. It isn't just a game with some new levels.
Anyways, from what I know, the Source Engine doesn't originally support big envirnoments, thats a huge engine upgrade for EP2.

BF2142 has decreased vehicle whoring, but in essence, everyone still whores the gunship, or the walker. It seems BF2142 has been optimized, and given a new face, but the insides doesn't seem to have changed much. The biggest change I see in the BF2 engine, is that they added legs.. Walkers

Plenty of us have tried 2142, and lots don't like it, lots do.
It seems almost everyone has trouble connecting to the EA Master Server...

I stick with my opinion: Its fun, but I think ETQW is more promising then this.
I think BF2142 would've done better as a mod for BF2.. I can't really say that though... it seems DICE kicked out a lot of the features for the demo. Mainly ranks, unlocks, and field upgrades

2142 has new effects, some core optimization, new game mode etc. The source engine doesn't support open areas, that's the point. Valve are doing some tricky thing with the level design. Portal engines are more suited to that task, a better comparison would be Doom 3 to ETQW. Then again I see mega texture as the wrong way of doing things. Procedurally generated content is the way to go.

The walkers are very easy to take down with static ground defense, rockets to the crotch or just plain old tanks.

That's the point it's a demo, it's meant to be a taste of the final package.

You'd think the mere fact the secondary gunner cannot be shot like in BF2 and that the tank can zoom for long range kills would make up for that.

Better effects. Download the demo and turn the graphics all the way up and you'll see what I mean. I run everything at max at 1024x768 on a 6600gtoc just fine.

BTW, who wants to play the demo with me? hit me up on tcfrombn (xfire) or NeoFyte (ingame)[buddylist].
 
The demo is definitely better optimised. It's running WAY better than BF2 ever did on the same settings, and it looks nicer IMO.

All-in-all, it's better than I expected. Not sure I'm gonna get it, as it does feel like a mod for BF2, but it's still pretty cool.

I won't go into this again but theres a very good reason it feels like a mod. Because the game modes are night the same. Titan mode merely has a big assault at the end. Both modes are good in their own respects of course.

Either way I'd say the vehicle balancing has been the best yet of any of the other BF games.

it's just some of us can't forgive DICE for what they have done and are doing to the battlefield franchise
Personally I think you have to be blind to embrace BF2142 as a full price title knowing all the facts but here we are
 
I dislike the price, but I won my copy so that doesn't bother me in the slightest. Besides you can buy the game for $25AUD through some Thai websites. Go Zest.

i guess I'm just bitter at how DICE FUBAR'd BF2 turning a great game into a good game rather than an incredible game....and I haven't had any coffee yet either :p

Yeah, I tried to play some BF2, and was meh'd, when if this was last year, I would have been very "WOW"d...I loved that game so much... :(

And have you ever heard of a "full conversion mod"? Same engine, totally different game? muwahaha.

I'd pay 15 bucks for this game IMHO.
 
This game isn't very fun. It is too balanced. It is so balanced that you die almost as fast as you kill. There isn't as much skill in this game as there was in the first. They took everything that pwned people and "balanced" it. They balanced everything so it all sucks just as much. Only 4 classes? Screw that, I dont care if they are customizable. 10 customizable classes would be even better and would make me want to play more. This game just feels like a watered down mod of BF2 since it uses the same engine. Same feel same sluggish infantry combat. No thanks, I'll get ET:QW where I can actually find some action packed exciting combat.
 
You'll find ETQW will be the same way though. You do need skill to be good at this I'll say that, and once unlocks are thrown into the mix things will pick up. Give me my anti tank rifle already.

I won't be surprised if QW is over hyped and I'm dead set on buying it like many of you are as well. However I'm sure some people will be disappointed, you can't meet everyones expectations with one game.
 
I've found it to be fun so far, but its lacking that really grabbing feature for me. Something to make me sit up and be convinced that this is a step forward. In BF42 it was the scale of the experience, and in BF2 it was the fantastic squad system. But I've yet to be grabbed by BF1242 in that same way.
