First off, there will be a new client tomorrow. Those of us in the beta already will have to redownload the whole works... no patch for us. There's also no changelog, but Colin goes on the mention one delightful known bug that will go live with the new version - Titan's will randomly explode for no reason. /cheer

Now for the real news. Along with the new client, the BF2142 beta will be opened to the masses. I know there are still some shackers that want to try this out, so keep your eyes open for more info tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully the new client will address some of the more severe bugs, and the servers will be more stable than they have been in the last couple days.

I want to play the beta so I dont have to buy this game.

Quake Wars > Battlefield 2 > 2142
 
I want ti be honest.I think BF2 is more fun..but only time can tell.

True, Vanilla BF2 rocks IMHO. There may be a shitload of bugs and glitches, but damnit, I've put 400 hours into this game, and I'm loving it still.
 
Jesus christ I hate FilePlanet queues. 50 damn minutes. :angry:

I just played an hour and I'm extremely disappointed with bf2142. I don't what I was expecting but if this map Verdun and the Titan mode is any indication of the gameplay then I'm definitely not buying this.

I've been a big battlefield fan since the first game, bought most expansions but this is where the buck stops for me. I'll stick with BF2 till ET:QW comes out.
 
Well, the new build apparently sucks balls. They've nerfed pretty much everything, theres a big uproar over at the beta forums. assult pods only launch a few feet in the air unless you're near the titan, which sucks. It was soooo much fun to assault a silo in a pod.

The first build was amazing fun. Though by the sounds of it the newer build sucks ass. Typical EA/Dice...

by the sounds of it is really is typical DICE - they know how to make all the things that make a game great, they just don't have a ****ing clue what to do with them
 
I get an "HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden" error whenever I try to download off Fileplanet :/.

Just gave the new build a spin, can't see no performance issues my end and i think the graphics are looking much better. A lot less fog and a few graphical changes here and there to make things easier to see etc.

I just had the "no sound from my gun" bug though :( Not tried the new pods or helojet controls but i hear they suck :(

I remember the no sound from gun glitch from bf2! Some APC would be shooting me, I'd have NO CLUE it was shooting me till I died..*Sigh*
 
If it goes public, I'll give it a go, even though I haven't heard much good about it. How many maps are there? Any urban?

I think they are just doing the titan stuff right now, testing it all out. Don't quote me on it though.
 
Just the one map. Mainly an open map with the Titans providing the close quaters combat.

I think all of the open beta keys have been used up already. Think you may have to wait for the demo to play this, unless you can find a spare key anywhere?

Played a bit. Despite all the connection issues, problems while connecting to a server, major framerate problems and random lag... it was okay. Very sloppy handling on the hover-tank, I couldn't turn properly so I ended up inside a building or worse, down a river. But despite that the tanks felt pretty damn good, especially when you're firing the main cannon. Damn, just fell in love with it instantly. I love shelling an encampment, especially now that the cannon are more powerful.

I haven't really tried all of the classes, I mostly ran around as an engineer, confused while being anally raped by air strikes. There's quite a bit I haven't even tried yet too, like the Mech's, steering the Titan, flying the attack ships (I tried the drop ship's but I crashed after a minute) and all of the land vehicles except the tank and buggy.

Hopefully it'll run a bit better tomorrow. The connection problems drove me insane so I'm not really feeling like playing it at the moment.
 
...Apparently it's closed already... bah.
 
Yeah, the 10,000 were gone insanely fast. Released at 10AM PST so apparently EA doesn't much care for students or people with jobs. :/
 
Connection errors every 5 seconds, horrible lag, confusion, poor handling on most vehicles, crashes - Well i wouldn't say its fun yet...
 
From the sounds of it this aint going to turn out as well as many of us had hopes for. Quake Wars it is then.

I'm gonna bet 1000 posts of mine and say that Quake Wars will run, at least, 10 times better than Battlefield 2142. The random freezes in BF2142 are fugging appalling. Oh and yes, I'm very aware that this is a beta but who's sure the retail version will run better... because it's Dice, right? :rolleyes:
 
I take it then, that I should I be glad that I didn't get to witness this abomination of a beta?

Let's even say that BF2142 will run at 10fps - will QW run at 100? ;)
