BF3 @ E3 thread

immediate gripe/cringe with the demo is the dinosaur and flashbacks of a family with an assurance that you'll ''get back for his birthday'' - it's so forced it's almost vomit-inducing. also, miller. miller. that's one easily shouted marine corp name away from being rodriquez or jackson. MILLER GET ON THE MARK 19. MILLER GO SHOOT SOMEONE. miller, **** off.
Yeah, but imagine how much it'll sting [Activision] if BF3 is confirmed for dinosaurs, follows it up with a cliche plot... and then actually delivers it with finesse and emotional weight.

That might of been an on rails tank shooter section, but it was a very sexy (and very large) on rails tank shooter section. Game looks frikken awesome in terms of appearance and effects. It's going to be an interesting head to head between BF3 & MW3. ;)

I'm assuming more multiplayer footage is coming right? Not just 50 seconds worth ;_;

The multiplayer demo is tomorrow I believe. The map you see in the trailer will be playable by the press so we'll probably see a whole boatload of MP footage.

Too pumped. It looks like they are making the destruction play a far greater role now. When he was in the train and the lights were blowing out... creates lower and lower visibility? And the rubble killing him at the end, could be dynamic?

Is it wrong that I am REALLY hoping you can blow up the Eiffel Tower? Not to say I hate france or anything, I just think it would look neat!

Just watched that tank demo. Was very pretty, but wasn't impressed at all (except for changing between gunner and tank driver, finally, not a split second change!). The huge tank battle in the middle of Crysis seems to shit all over this, if only for the fact that you could approach the battle anyway you wished.

I know I'm the only one that says:screw SP it's all about the MP

I know I'm the only one that says:screw SP it's all about the MP

I'm guessing you mean to say you're NOT the only one? 'Cause the vast majority of people don't give half a shit about SP, myself included. I'll be lucky to play thru the campaign within a year of BF3 coming out, I'll just be too busy with MP.

My site used almost 2TB (!!!!!!) of bandwidth (about ~1850GB) today. In comparison, over the past couple months we have only used a total of 600GB. Can't wait to see my traffic stats, they are going to be astronomical considering that bandwidth is all images and text, no video whatsoever (all our video is streaming and hosted off-site).

Well you have a great fansite and keep on the news Ennui, so good job. I like the SP but multiplayer is where it's at. Today we will see that but so far from what I have seen, everything is beyond my expectation. I didn't know computer graphics were capable of what I saw yesterday.

About 20 minutes until the BF3 event starts. Watch the stream on my frontpage http://battlefieldo.com/

More than 669,000 UNIQUE HITS on the site yesterday. Insane.

Thanks for the heads-up. Getting crisps & Coke as we speak. I will enjoy this.

And congrats on the numbers. 669.000 unique hits on one day is an awful lot.

All over the place. Today we're getting swamped with Koreans for some reason.

669k is MUCH more than our usual numbers which are only 15-30k a day on average.

The main BF3 stuff of the day starts at about 4:15 PM US Eastern (GMT-5) // 1:15 PM US Pacific (GMT-8) // 9:15 PM GMT. We'll be streaming and chatting and whatnot.

Haha yeah I noticed when I popped into your IRC!

Wow, those are some very good figures :) respect :D

<3

Well it is a really nice site :)

And good news all around. This really is shaping up to be a perfect mix of BF2 and BC2. I like the change that the rifleman class now heals and revives and the machine gun class now passes around ammo and other support. I also really like the idea of suppression, in BC2 I just love spraying my LMG in the direction of enemies, hoping they keep their head down. I just hope the suppression effect is not annoying or unbalanced.

i made a post just like this saying how much i love just randomly spraying covering fire to get snipers off my back, but the forum ate it or i clicked off the forum when i was on the phone, i forget. but yeah, cannot wait for it actually have a better effect. i hope its sort of like how halo has handled ''suppression'' by having enemies that are watching you down iron sights come out from the scope if they take a hit, making it harder for them to track you whilst taking fire.

Oh man, this live event is the funniest thing on E3 so far. It is presented by two veteran paratroopers who don't have a clue what they are doing. No new multiplayer footage yet, but I am enjoying myself a lot.

These guys are so ****ing awkward. Theres points where their brain just freezes and they just stop talking in the middle of a sentence for like 3 seconds and then they start a completely new subject. Wtf

Also the crowd interviewer just keeps swinging the mic back and forth between his mouth and the other persons, while the other person is talking. You can't hear half of what they say. God damn they're awful at this.

They take part in a real life war scenario but you cannot shoot them because it's a cutscene.

lol, that is when they are getting instructions from the director probably. Notice how they don't have a clue of the stuff they are talking about. "Go to the Twitter and then hashtag ... wait ... *silence while director yells in their in-ear headset* YES ... TWITTER ... USE HASHTAG BF3!!!"

As far as I'm concerned, DiCE is doing everything right in terms of marketing this game. Live streams of people ACTUALLY playing it (on PCs no less) and having the developers doing lengthy, informative interviews is the way to go. I'm impressed.

Haha, it is pretty amusing. I like how he says stuff like 'facebook dot com'.

Are they actually showing multiplayer footage or are they just having bad interviews about it?

someone wake me up when they show some decent new footage lol.

The last 20 minutes or so has been over-the-shoulder shots of people playing the multiplayer. No direct feed though.

Damn, I wanted direct feed. :(

Edit: That underground metro map is actually not as cramped as I had expected.

The underground portions of that map are amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on it. It makes me wonder what other maps in BF3 will become classics like Strike at Karkand did.

It's huge. Watching the over-the-shoulder gameplay is really showing the map pretty well.

from battlefieldo;

Squad Leader confirmed, 4 Person Squad
Ability to spot a Enemy Squad Leader
Equippable Grenades
Equippable knife as well as quick knife (like BC2)
Support class able to mount bipods and give ammo
Rifleman class has medpack + defibrillator
Ability to change fire modes in multiplayer (semi/burst/auto)
Regenerative health in MP, but suppression effect stops regen (only regen when you aren’t under fire)
Suppression effects from LMG, blur vision

Flashlights can blind the enemy
First Person Animations in Multiplayer
Faction Specific Weapons + Unlocks
Vehicles can be immobilized before being destroyed
Able to opt out of Revives in Multiplayer

3D spotting (?)

all in bold has my hype rising.

Oh, that reminds me... we forgot one thing in that post. It was also confirmed during the live stream that you can be killed by falling debris from the destruction... which I know was something that excited you knut. Gotta edit that in real quick!

Also, at the news post he's quoting, there are a bunch of youtube videos captured from the stream of over the shoulder views of multiplayer gameplay which are worth a watch even if they are pretty bad quality:

Man, I am so tired. We've been monitoring the internet, moderating that retard fest of an IRC room we have, posting news and watching streams for a solid 11 hours straight now.

Was great to see those of you who showed up in the IRC (I don't blame you for not staying...). Dinnesch, Unfocused, Krynn, Gargantou, Soupstorm/Stigmata, Shaker, hool10 and others all stopped by!

excellent news!

watching the cam videos now, pretty cool.

aesthetically, i'm really glad the soldiers actually look like troops now as opposed to bad company, which i felt was a bit cartoonish in it's portrayal of soldiers. big ghilli suits, only one model that has a face rendered (medic, and the US version looked dumb with his big handlebar mustache), strange face masks or balaclavas... well, basically they looked like the characters from the single player. good to see there's a bit of unindividual-individuality going on here, if that makes sense (people wearing uniforms, but all or at least most looking quite distinct from each other... even though they're in similar BDU's)

i dunno, bit of a ramble there, but i do like a good military aesthetic.

So it's not going to be on Steam? WHY ;v

Because EA. :(

They own DICE (it's actually called EA DICE), don't forget. They're trying to launch their own content distribution service / community in direct competition to Steam (in that it will have achievements, track stats, have friends and instant messaging, group/clan support, etc) and BF3 is probably their biggest marketing tool being used to convince/force gamers to use it. I honestly am super disappointed in this but it makes perfect sense from a business standpoint. I really do hate it when publisher/developers pull this shit (besides Valve ofc :p ) like Stardock does.

I had absolutely zero interest in BF3, but after seeing the trailers and et cetera, I'm prolly gonna go buy it within 2 weeks of its release.

I knew EA would pull this shit as soon as they announced Origin
looks like I'm buying retail for the first time in YEARS

Origin, booo. I guess i'm buying it in retail.

I love the fact that you can customize your dogtags, but it would be cool if you could customize your knife so that when you stab someone, they can see the knife that killed them.
