because they know most people arent gonna send the thing, so they make a lot more money than they would if they just reduced the price for everyone.

Exaclty. Most people order it and go, "Wow look at the price with the mail-in rebate!", but when most people recieve their item, they forget about the rebate. And thats how it works.

Or you cut the UPC off your box and send it in. Then you wait the required 8-12 weeks, never get anything, and when you call, you find out they never received it. Then your screwed.

That's what happened to me with the last MIR I did.
