some people might recognize this subject from the hl2.net steam chat room, where i have brought some interesting points and exposed the bias inherent in the top listing of imdb.com. ever since it became apparent that supreme executive power was used to manipulate the votes, the credibility of imdb.com has suffered a meltdown. as most if not all multinational corporations try to gain more space in their field, questionable means are being introduced and popular websites like this one are utilized in order to gain control over the masses... in the great taxonomy of things there are honest websites, and those that are... less honest. some of the films have such high score that the bias is just ridiculously transparent. i'm absolutely convinced that the same people who are being paid to give some films a high score are also responsible for giving negative votes to other films. there might be some kind of a royalty payment implemented so basically these people are paid a certain amount of money for each vote they give. or perhaps even a scare tactic? "you WILL vote for this and this, or else...". it's unfair because there are really good films that should be much higher on the list.

and the worst movie in the entire database? The jonas brothers 3d film... check the bottom 100 list: It's not there anymore even though the score of 1.3 is the lowest of all films in the database. my theory is that the record label or goverment officials with an axe to grind are the ones responsible for this amazing trickery in the same caliber with copperfield's famous vanishing of the statue of liberty. but this one is real. such a terrible score would surely affect the average consumer's impression of the band and hamper their album sales.

what's the point? like i said to gain control over the masses... in a capitalistic west where the standard of living is measured by materia, the poverty is the lack of free minds. forced down your throat you believe what they want and you become a puppet.i no longer trust imdb.com and any articles over there should be taken a grain of salt.

edit: i am posting this behind a proxy server... the reasons to this decisions should be obvious enough to anyone who has ever dwelled too deep into somethings they perhaps shouldn't have. however i'm not naive enough to think that they would NOT be able to trace me if they really wanted to. but this might buy me some more time.

Why are you reading articles and top 100 lists from imdb anyway? imdb is only good for looking up filmographies.

metacritic and rottentomatoes is where its at.

You're so right to post from behind a proxy, man. This is heavy shit.

Lol, MoD, hey, tell you what, I'll give you $20,000 USD to not speak another word of this.

See how easy that is? Well, I'd certainly take it. In other words, who cares? These are movie ratings, not government cover ups.

Seems like you didn't pass that shit, holmes.

i heard they put something in the water to make you forget.

DUDE, ARE YOU ****ING CRAZY?!

A proxy wont save you at all man! You stirred up shit on goddamn IMDB you crazy ****er, nothings going to stop government from sending Black Suit Agents to your house right now! Thats not to mention the corporate assassins that are waiting for the perfect moment to snuff your ass out.

GET OUT OF THERE NOW. STAY OFF THE GRID MAN, LIVE OFF THE LAND AND NEVER COME BACK TO THE INTERNET IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE. They will stop at nothing to end you for uncovering the truth!

I chuckled, and then closed the tab.

metacritic is quite shitty (they have low scores for best movies of all times), i only trust rottentomatoes in these days

What do you mean, "trust"? It's just a portal to find other reviews which may or may not be shitty.

On a vaguely related note I reckon forums are one of the best engines for getting a critical opinion of something. As with an aggregator you still get a broad collective viewpoint, but if there's disagreement and deep division, you are familiar with the people advocating for either 'side', and will come to know the extent to which their viewpoint matches yours.

is this a joke?

or goverment officials with an axe to grind are the ones responsible for this amazing trickery

no, really

why does this site attract so many crazies?

i was referring to reviews. let's take a look at terminator 2 on metacritic: "Based on 17 critic reviews"...what, 17 reviews? and rottentomatoes: 38 reviews! this is acceptable.

some films have like 5/7 reviews on whereas rt have minimum 50-60 reviews

two weeks ago i decided to rent a film. but not just any film: i wanted one with a bad rating. i browsed imdb.com and randomly selected a film from the bottom 100 list. i ended up with a film called "Stjerner uden hjerner", a danish comedy from 1997, which i had never heard about before.

i decided to rent the film from a video rental shop that i hadn't been to yet. when i got to the store, i immediately started to browse through the shelves in search of the film that i had chosen while keeping an eye on the entire store (i didn't want to give them the opportunity to remove any films from the shelf when i wasn't watching). the clerk was glancing at me with an intensity that seemed suspicious enough, and it even looked like he was going to walk towards me and interrupt my search. i avoided his watchful eye by aligning myself with the shelves when he was trying to look at me, and i only moved between the shelves when he was looking away. i browsed through every category and every shelf in the store, but couldn't spot the film. maybe i had missed it, or maybe the film was kept under the desk or in the backroom with other not so popular films.

i decided to approach the clerk and ask him. without hesitation he told me that they had no such film in their selection, but before i could even open my mouth he allready expressed great interest in the possible alternative choices that i might have. he asked if i wanted to rent some other film. one of the films he recommended (while sounding unnecessarily friendly) was "The Princess Bride", currently sitting comfortably at position #173 on THE TOP 250 films list. my suspicions were confirmed true at this point. we had never met before in our lives, we had never even seen each other, and allready he was trying to tell me what i should do. it became apparent that they didn't want me to see the film that i had originally desired to watch. they were trying to manipulate me and affect my rights to make decisions as a consumer.

i took a firm stance against his seemingly generous offer and told him that i would search for another video store with more qualified staff and a selection that appeals to my personal taste. i made sure that he knew i would never use their services again.

shove a bic lighter up your ass so that when they anally probe you they'll get a face full of fire instead

also the voices will stop if you drill small holes in your forehead

OP's trying too hard to become the next kathaksung.

Move along.

After reading the first post I thought the OP is seriously crazy, but after the second post it's kinda apparent that this is a joke.

Disappointed.

The joke was pretty good with the first post. Subtle enough to be believable (though the proxy thing made it pretty apparent it was a joke), and just crazy enough to be funny. Second post ruined it though. Trying way too hard. I'll stick with Kathaksung.

first post was dead serious, second post was a cover up, once he saw our reactions, he tried to make it seem like he was joking. Actually he probably added the proxy thing in an edit, after he realized he was crazy.

whats a proxy?

and to the topic creator on his experience on the store, welcome to the world of marketing where the point is to sell

cuz imaginate you are that guy at the store, your work is to sell and if they see that someone leaves whitout selling they will try to do something like recomend a product, especially a famous product cuz probably the potential customer have mroe chances to atleast heard of it

cuz that princess bride movie sure have lot of adverstisments which is what makes people to see the movies cuz people is so stupid to look for themselfs a movie and will see whatever appears on tv

"hey lets watch this one,it has special effects,I heard thats a good thing"

and probably you where young and gotich looking so that give him a clue for the recomendation

and since that movie wasnt fmous sure they wouldnt have cuz who will want to see a movie they dont even know it exists? hell you didnt even know it existed you just looked into a list of bad movies and picked it

how you would feel if he would have recomended you a movie you dont have idea? you would have take it? what if the movie was called something like "ironpunch" and the plot was about "some cop who takes revenge on drugs dealers" or something like that

would you have accepted? well if you are in this crussade you would have

and watching if he changed a film while you wherent looking? well that is job and was just arranging to you know to make people see what films are in the shelf
and he walked to you? well that also his job to see if people was looking a specific film which is what you just where doing

and when you say he speaked friendly suddenly is well duh he didnt wanted to loose a customer

how you would have feel if you asked about that danish movie and the guy replied

"we dont have that shit scumbag"

that he was telling what to do? he recomended something to you,how would you feel if the recomendation was like...

"know what I recomend you,my foot on your ass"

and them they manipulate you? when you enter a bakery and the staff say to you "do want something sir" you scream back at them "omg stop manipulating me!"

after all if you enter store there is a big chance you wanted to buy something cuz thats what stores are for and since he dont want people to leave whitout buying soemthing cuz that means less money for him and the company then he tried to sell you something since he didnt have what you where looking for

and he wouldnt care what you bought, sure if you picked a movie at ramdon on the shelf and asked him if the movie was good or no he would spend minutes talking how good it is since the money he uses to buy food depends on it

so tell us next time when the transport ministry tries to control you life by making a bus stop in front of you and opening the door in a bus station and how you shouted at the driver and go away runing

and yeah I know is a troll but dam I am bored

I thought OP was banned.

Anyway, here's where it gets interesting - am I just another agent of the grand conspiracy, once again quelling the truth, silencing those who would speak against the master plan to rig movie ratings and recommend people pretty good movies? (The Princess Bride is great, by the way (oh god they're following you everywhere get out while you still can))

Or am I just bored of your shitty theories?
