Was playing worms reloaded this morning at around 4:30am when I suddenly lost power and was literally thrown from my computer chair when a 7.1 quake hit only 30KM away. Scared the absolute crap out of me, I've never experienced an earthquake before, not like this. It was really intense for about a minute, my lights went on and off etc. My bookshelf fell over landing on me, luckily I was able to kind of grab it but all my drawers and cupboards flew open and scattered stuff everywhere.

Several buildings in town have collapsed and lots of roads have been damaged and cracked. Also there is lots of flooding and sewage leaks and pipe bursts.

It's now 11:25am and I just got power back but there are still quakes every few minutes, we're being told to conserve water because the supply is at risk of pollution.

They've declared at least a week long state of emergency so I'm not sure what'll happen from here, there's lots of looting etc in the city which has now been cordoned off.

I just wish these aftershocks would stop...

Hope you'll be alright dude. Be stacked on rations and necessities.

I'm a little shaken up especially with these ongoing aftershocks. No deaths luckily, only 2 seriously injured people and a few people with cuts and bruises etc...

Just noticed my grandad's (he lives next door) chimney is completely cracked around the bottom and only being held up by the chute up the middle, loose bricks hanging out and stuff, not good.

Might want to get him out of there until it's repaired.

Jesus, glad to hear you're okay. When's the last time we had a decent quake like that? I remember a bunch of smallish quakes hitting up here when I was younger but haven't experienced one in years, possibly not for my entire adult life.

Oh also, stop being so gay you're making Allah angry.

In my 20 years I've never felt an earthquake bigger than "was that an earthquake?....meh"

Which made this even more frightening, because we've never had a quake like this I thought there was something more to it.

i swear it moved the house a inch to the right.

lol at those cracks. have that shit all around my house simply due to shoddy foundation on Texas soil.

The wall in my room has quite a few large cracks.

Glad you're okay though.

Looks like there are going to be a LOT of buildings knocked down in the central city. All the little aftershocks are making the already damaged buildings worse and completely unstable.

Who are all the other New Zealanders? I know we have quite a few on these boards. An abnormally large number actually, for such a tiny little weird place.

Anybody live near the epicenter? Just want to make sure everybody is accounted for.

I honestly would not have believed this would have happened if someone told me, nothing like this ever happens in Christchurch, then out of the blue BAM a 7.1 quake.

I'm just so glad I'm not working my old job as supermarket wine filler...sucks to be the guys cleaning that mess up.

Glad you're ok. Hope there aint too much damage for you!

Think the worst I've felt is 4 or 5 a few years back. That was scary as hell D:

I hate earthquake.
Turning what is used to be the safest place, home, to be the most dangerous place. :x

Scary stuff man.

Ottawa gets jack all in terms of earthquakes, though coincidentally the largest one I've ever felt occured here over the summer. Even then it was wimpy compared to what you had.

glad you're ok bro. i've almost died many times in my life and its not a good feeling. i bet you almost shat your pants

dats some crazy shit glad your ok.
I bet was Jesus punishing you for allowing the HOMOSEXUALS to congregate.

lol

Just woke up from a nap and it's now 5pm, aftershocks are still bloody going >.<

There's been a fire now after returning gas/power to a building in town caused it to go up.

it's interesting to see railway tracks bent in an "S" shape.

So the internet is still working, even though your city has been hit by a 7.1 earthquake?

*moves to NZ*

heh it wasn't for a few hours but they got power back to most of the city by mid afternoon, was a good effort.

They can take our lives and our homes, but they can never take... OUR DIALUP!!
