Big FPS problem plz help me out

Ive got a:

Pentium 4 2.533ghz
Asus geforce 6800 128mb
2x 512mb ddr 333mhz
creative soundblaster audigy

Windows XP fully updated
latest video and sound drivers
directx 9c

I run Fear at 1024 res med quality
I run Quake 4 800x600 res high quality

But I cant seem to run counterstrike source. With source my compu behaves like having a geforce 4 or even 3.
My fps drop from 85 to 20 or less. It runs
a litle better when I lower the settings to minimun but its still choppy. Reinstalling steam and source did not help.
What could be the problem here?

Hmmm... Have you tried taking off HDR? (I think it is automatically forced after 9/23 update)
It's somewhere in the video options.

If that doesn't work, try deleting your config.cfg file in the 'cfg' folder in cstrike. But watch out, that's where all your control keys are located, so if you have some binds (e.g. pressing a key makes you say "Cover me!"), copy the config file to a safe spot first.

I heard that settled some problems.
You can also try forcing Directx 8.1 :

Force DXLEVEL
You can also force a particular DirectX level which might help with some older video cards (will run a little faster too):

DirectX Version 9.0 = -dxlevel 90
DirectX Version 8.1 = -dxlevel 81
DirectX Version 8.0 = -dxlevel 80
DirectX Version 7.0 = -dxlevel 70

To set this, just add the "-dxlevel 81" in your game launch properties.

Ok I deleted the config.cfg and it worked It runs much faster now
Thx allot!

Weird thing is that this config file should have been deleted when I reinstalled steam+source

I have teh same problem. I used to 80 fps back in January, but now I get 20 fps =S
