Alright. I turn on my computer and I go on the internet and my home page has changed. This isn't new so I go to my homepage, cnn.com, and I get this website called smartsearch.ws. I try to go to Gamespy and I still get smartsearch! What is wrong with IE? Why can I no longer use any site except for this? I don't know why but this site I am allowed to go to. Please help! :)

I've had all this spyware and pop up crap on my PC like crazy. Here is what to do.

First go to your systems configuration utility and under startup, disable the crap you think doesnt belong. (start > run > type msconfig)

Second, download Adaware, scan for spyware and delete the crap but it might not delete everything. THe best program out there (also free) is HiJackThis. I highly recommend you use this but make sure you dont repair/delete anything unless you know what you are doing. So post your log here and ill tell you what to delete.

And dont forget to reset your web settings, delete history and delete internet files after all this.

Also, try Spybot Search & Destroy, IMO it's the best spyware scanning software next to adaware

Edit: Why are you even using IE? It sucks as a browser.. firebird would never have evil problems like that :) ;)

I got spybot I deleted. It is still giving me problems. It wasn't but when I went to go online after 2 hours of KoTOR it came back. Please help. The site that is my homepage is changed to smartsearch.ws

Did you try Adaware by lavasoft? Sometimes it can get files spybot misses, and visa versa. Plus it may be pretty deeply built into your windows so Adaware has a feature that makes it run on your next restart, so it can clean the file again, make sure to update it right before you run it so you get the latest greatest.

This definately sounds like spyware, so the best way to fight spyware is with a spyware destroyer.

Well, it has worked before. Like I said it worked but then I went to play KoTOR and I came back and was all, "WTF!!!111~111!"No I didn't try Adaware. I can't either. I can't go anywhere but here remember?

Does it only effect IE? Can you get around it with other browsers? I was just looking at the website it forces you to go to, have you tried putting in a URL straight into the "Go to URL" spot? try going to http://www.lavasoft.nu/ to get adaware. Or just try going to that URL straight.

Another way around it that might work, try making a new user on your computer, log into that and there's a chance IE will default back to normal, then either stick with the new log in name or just get your programs from there and go back to your other set up and run them.
