Well, with Left 4 Dead getting closer, Valve are happy to showcase a lot more of what they've achieved so far. To begin with, IGN have had the opportunity to play L4D on "the infected" side experiencing the variety of zombie bosses in the game as well as learning tactical ambushes. See the linked article for their thoughts and overviews of these characters. Article here
Leaving our team behind, we walked forward into the bedroom to make sure it was clear. Our mistake. As we approached a window to look outside, a smoker perched on an abandoned car in the driveway darted out his tongue and ripped us right out of the second floor, flinging us to the ground below. A tank, which was on fire at the time, then rumbled out from a Molotov blaze on the house's veranda and smashed us across the face, killing us.

Eurogamer have also put up their first impressions of Left 4 Dead with a playtest they had recently, also getting their hands on the infected side. See this article also for a good interview with good old Doug Lombardi. Article here [br]

Throughout these articles there has been a surge of new screenshots of the game, most of which can all be found on the Left 4 Dead website here. [br]

Lastly, to finish with, see below for an official new video of L4D gameplay over at GameTrailers.[br]

I am beginning to feel like I have already played this game from all the media shown.

I think we've been extremely lucky. The co-op online story mode thing is new territory and possibly one of the most fun things Valve could make, they're just making sure everyone knows it!

Reading about the bosses on the IGN article is really interesting, especially the bit about the witch who we see at the end of the GameTrailers video. This bit in particular explains what she's all about...
There is a fifth and even deadlier type of boss, called the witch, but she's not playable. Appearing onscreen as a disheveled young woman, the witch will weep and rock back and forth on her knees with head held in hand while left alone. As long as survivors keep from drenching her in flashlight flare or making loud noises, she'll stay put. If disturbed, she can kill in only a few hits. Otherwise she acts more like an eerie atmospheric device, as her sobs and moans are clearly audible when nearby. Like the rest of the zombie assaults and boss infected placements on maps, the witch, who appears only on the hard difficulty setting, is placed wherever the director AI sees fit.

Sounds amazing, this is pretty high on my wishlist.

C'mon Valve, you've got dynamic shadowing nailed, use it!

DjBourgeoisie, I'd much rather get to see more of the game than have it where you don't get to see it until right before release. There's still a lot of people who haven't heard of the game, plus it's pretty neat comparing videos and screenshots from the past year with the new ones and see how they've improved on things like the flashlight effects/models, UI, particle effects, map design, etc.

Thats understandable, but it seems like every week there is a new article covering this game, I was really looking forward to it and I still am, just not quite as much. Last I heard it was not coming out until this fall is that right? That means the game will be going thru changes/improvements, why not just wait till a bit further down the road is all I am sayin. I dont think for one second hyping this game as much as they are will hurt sales, far from it, I was just speaking personally that I feel I know too much about this game and the experience will be somewhat less than it would be if there was less coverage of it thats all. I did not even read the article for that reason hehe :dork:

Well I'm betting this is the last media release for a long time. Again, thank you Glenn for putting this up! :)

This could quite possibly be the scariest multiplayer game ever made. :O

it looks like alot of fun, although i thought the HUD was REALLY ugly last time i saw it.
They should try and make hud's smaller, compacter, more info less space.

back on topic; **** i cant wait : D

-dodo

@Hectic Glenn:
They explained the witch in that sort of detail quite a while ago. It was even in a game play video a while back. The survivors hear her groans, and they all turn off their flashlights as they creep by her.

Holy shit awesome!

Valve makes no apology for kicking us off on the easiest of the four difficulty settings
Easy
Medium
Hard
Insane?

scotland1:

Normal, Hard, Expert, Insane

Insane what Lombardi called it in the interview which is the first time we've heard the name. Witch appears on Hard and greater difficulties.

Looks like they've incorporated some of the lighting effects that they use in TF2 (rim highlights etc.)

Ah, I saw this before you posted it :)

Good job. I've been ignoring it for the past few months, and it's only recently I've decided to take any interest. It's starting to get my attention.

Same here.

It looked retardedly fast-paced for a zombie game, but after reading the latest preview and watching the new trailer, my interest has been peaked.
