Reinstall ep1 and then right click on your game. Then, Click Properties. Click "Set Launch Options" and enter this code:
-dxlevel 81
It should fix the runtime error. If it does NOT, then you'd probably need to Update your graphics card. I've gotten a Few Complaints before from sites with issues like this. Some of them were different ofcourse, but this should help alot.
