So my friends PC stopped working. It simply wont boot, he pushes the button and the main logo shows up for the motherboard (a spaceship) and then its just completely blank, no Windows Xp logo at all, just completey blank forever. We have tried everything in bios but it simply wont work. It wont recognize any cds either, so we cant do system restores with the XP CD. It worked perfectly before, we dont know what might have caused. We have checked all cables and everything and it all fits fine. Anyone know what might have caused this?

Try to go into the bios setup and change it to not show the logo, then see if it's showing an error message.

maybe it could be the hard drive also, but in that case I would think it would post a message saying something like "OS not present/found."

Sounds like something may have happened to either the BIOS or the cpu/ram/motherboard. First, go into the BIOS and locate the option to restore all settings to default if you haven't already. See if that fixes the problem before taking any other steps. If that's already been tried, remove one of the RAM sticks and try again, then repeat with the other stick if the problem persists. The will allow us to narrow things down to what it could be.

Pour water into the mobo to cool down any heated components.

we have tried doing those things in bios without any luck. Right now its 3 AM so we dont want to mess with anything while being tired so we will get back to it tomorrow. We will try to remove one gb stick and see what happens.

thanks for the tips

GOOD NEWS, we fixed it :D We took his hard drive and hooked it up to mine and it worked, so we did a few virus scans and found one trojan and deleted it. Plugged it back to his computer and it worked. Really weird lol

thanks for all the help :)

Heeey! Good Job.

Did you try reseating (unplugging and plugging back in) the ide/sata cable? I'd put money on it being that
