for those people who like to scrub through videos frame by frame or just convert bink to a different video type:

go to http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm

then downloads and download the video tools. once installed all you have to do is go to the bink video and click on the convert button.

i just did it with the g-man video.

dang, i was just gonna make a thread on this. guess you beat me to it

btw: if your converting, use the Microsoft MPEG-4 Codec and convert to .avi

i did this and ended up with a perfect video and its HALF the size of the bink.

bink = 68.6 mb
avi = 31.9 mb

can i do that? i would love to but i dunno if its against the rules of the forumn? anyway just message me on AIM. ill send you it.

Anyone manage to convert it to Divx yet? I'd bet that would be REAL small..

i tried but it crashed when i tried running it. i will try again later though, im making a small page where you can download the 30 meg version.

I got a bit bored so made myself a wav of the bik, and put HL2 gman's voice into HL1. Yeah sad I know, lol, but fun.

i did, beware, the video is 1024x575 res, and divx doesnt like that, but 1024x574 works ;) heh. i also attempted Xvid, but it doesnt have a built-in resize filter so i couldnt get it going.

yeah, resize to 1024x574 and it'll work.

ohk, thanx for the tip xtasy.

as for the movie, im uploading it now, should take a few minutes. after i got that working ill attempt to make the divx version and if that is smaller or better then the avi, ill replace it on my site.

im also planning on continuing this as the movies go on. ill have to keep replacing them as i go though as web1000 only gives 50 megs. unless the divx is like 10 megs or somthing and ill be able to put more up at once.

just encoded it to divx, 24.5 MB, looks and sounds identical as far as i can tell :)

oops, actually it makes the video darker, hmm, but i think i like it better that way. but it looks cleaner in the original.

Holy crap.. the video shrinks to 20,645k when you convert it to Divx..

What was Valve thinking?

Although, to be honest, this was pretty piss-poor compression for Bink. The DNF video only loses like 20 percent of it's file size when converted to DIVX. (And actually GAINS 30 percent when converted to MPEG4)

Do you crop or scale to get it to a size Divx can handle. None of them are working at the minute.

resize to 1024x574 (as opposed to the original 1024x575).

How did you resize it? Did you put 1024 in Width and 574 in under scaling type Height or what? Or did you crop it.

well first of all im using divx 5.0.5 and in the configuration i went to the "general parameters" tab, and checked a radio button that said "enable resize" then i put in the res in the box and put in the type of resize.

If anyone is interested, I used to rip DVD's into Divx 3 form. If someone has a host I could upload the file to, Id be glad to convert it keeping as much quality as possible.

Are you resizing using the Divx Codec or Radtools?

Crop or scale?

EDIT: BOOOOOOLLLLLOCKS!

It wasnt working cos i still had some parameters from my Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels rip i done yesterday. DUH

not crop or scale, resize and as i said its in the divx configuration.

sorry, i just ran into some internet trouble. my ISP (comcast) has been doing somthing because for the past few days my internet shuts off at random and comes back on at a random time later. *sigh* its espically annoying when i was downloading at 200 kbs for a movie...

anyway here is the link: http://www.gfxeditor.web1000.com/

im not gonna be able to do this as the vids come out as i thought, because i totally forgot im leaving on weds for a week long trip to cali. durn :( now im gonna miss the movies!!!

REZERO, What bitrates did you use for your max/min? Also what kinda audio did you use? The raw WAV or did you compress into MP3?

um, i didnt have to do any of that. that sounds like ripping a dvd?

the default bitrate was 3000 so i used that. i think i just kept the wav unless the RAD tools convert it for you.

if your talking about divx, i just left the defaults cause i didnt have time to play around with it.

edit: i converted the movie to divx and zipped it down to 17 megs, but it kinda looses that edge or quality it has in the avi. im gonna leave it as the avi unless you guys dont mind the slightly worse quality.

Ahh, Havent worked with Div5 myself the quality isnt on par with 3. I guess 5 is a more user friendly version. 3000 is a bit much, You could have went with 900 and made it around 10 megs with very little loss of quality. Anyway GJ on the video.

900 certainly didnt get me down to 10MB.

thers other settings to take into account. i havent really gotton a chance to read compressing tutorials, which i probably should. with my own common sense i cant get my dvds down from 1-2 gigs, and its still horrible quality even then. one day ill get a chance to research it though.

What version of divx are you using? Also what program are you running it through to encode? Im using Nandub. Just did a 512x288 video of it and got it to 5 megs :bounce: Still looks really good too.

Yup, it wouldn't be Comcast if it didn't shut down randomly a few times a month...

im not lowering the res ;) i know with dvd's it's standard to lower the res, but i didn't, and i was using divx 5.0.5, and yes i know divx 5 sucks but i cant be bothered to learn how to do a proper rip with VKI MM4 type techniques. even though i believe nandub made that much easier ;)

their version is higher quality then any compressed one i made divx and the rest do small things to alter the size but they are not as clear for that reason.
