that's all kinds of awesome and worth the added price

http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/finalbdfigure.html

Im sure anyone that does Warhammer will grab this thing and go to work at it with a paintbrush...dear god, did a blind man paint that?

Awesome idea though, and at 6inches tall, its even more awesome.

The paint job seems fine to me, what's so terrible about it?

it's horrible obvious that it's mass produced and quickly painted... only about five colours are used making it rather monotone save for the dry-bruhsing/wash... the gloves are plain colour without any highlights or shadow and the damn "eyes" aren't even painted other than the gold/wash...wtf is that?

I'd also would like to kick every single person that voted for the big daddy figurine rather than a art book for the collector's edition in the nutts:angry:*kick*

Looks like it came out of a sewer or toilet if you ask me.

An art book would have been several times greater than that thing. Big Daddies are lame anyways. Hey look at us! We're milking one semi-cool character for all its worth and have already drained it of any cool that it had even before release, and we also talk in run on sentences that should be broken up into several different ones, but instead are all combine into one long one that never seem to end.

yeah, tbh I was never that into the entire Big Daddy thing, I like the idea of the lunatics running around cutting open bodies and generally acting like psychos though

Dude, he is some kind of cyborg that lives hundreds of feet underwater in a slum. The look is approriate.
Seaweed, rust, barnacles, anything that doesn't look like poop stains all over him lol.

Don't that that TOO seriously, Hool, they don't literally walk about the bottom the ocean. Bioshock is set around a city under the ocean, now semi-flooded, etc, you know? Rust and stains is a fine look.

lol wut.

He isn't meant to look like a goddamn celebrity model. He's some sort of mutant in a diving suit with some junk and machinery added to it. Thank god he doesn't look smart and shiny. Oh shit! One colour gloves! Who'da thought it?! Have you ever seen a diving suit before? It's pretty much just fabic lead material - two colours, really.

The only thing I dislike about this model is it's pose. Looks to... eh, dunno. To boring, I guess. Other than that, awesome. Wouldn't of minded an art book, though.

I never said it had to look like a celebrity model or shiny...that's not the point, the point is that it's a ****ing shit ass paintjob...do you have eyes in that head of yours?

"one colour glove" refers to as I already stated that didn't do highlights/shadows or even a wash/dry-brush like they did with the rest...they simply put on a plain brown colour and called it the day...and it looks rubbish.

you also mentioned the canvas yourself...and guess what they painted the canvas the same metal colour as the drill...I don't even have to mention how sloppy that is do I? just like they painted the "portholes" in the same metalic as the rest of the helmet how is the guy supposed to be able to see? he must have some awesome x-ray vision.

ontop of that the figure is littered with general painting errors such as painting outside "the lines".

come back with a witty reply once you actually know what constitutes a good paintjob.

I'm sure that anyone that have model paint at home will take a stab at repainting this, seing as the 12-year-olds in gameshops do a better job. I know I will(assuming I bother with the collector's edition in the first place...depends on price)...

oh yeah and the pose sucks aswell...

What do you expect, they are probably painted by children in China at a rate of one per minute and after a while, anything goes and they assume if the glove has paint on it, then it's done.

The alternative would have been unpainted, and almost everyone else would be complaining. At least I think it looks fairly good. It's passable in low light like in some shelves. At least there is blood smears.

Just paint it again Picasso.

I painted Warhammer for a good 8 years, I know a paint job, and this looks fine to me. No, you didn't say it had to look like a celebrity, that was a joke, but the way you were going on about rubbish like ''five colours only ommngngngg!'' is just petty bullshit. What the **** kind of statement is that anyway, 5 colours only? Who the **** cares how many colours he is made up from? I, myself, am wearing black and grey right now... what the hell is your point? Looking back at other stuff right now, like actual diving suits, or soldiers, or even regular humans in casual clothing, 5 colours is damned good. :|

Theres some blatent shading between his fingers right there in the only position we can see the hand. Right there, between the fingers. Pretty sure the glove is a spandex/PVC, too, so it's meant to be shiny and simple, not layered with technicalities. I guess simple has never occured to you though, huh?

Ever heard of using the same material, too? Lead weights, perhaps a lead drill? No? And even so, as a product design student, I've seen my fair share in metal materials that look identical.

The portholes is a problem, I wholeheartidly agree. But jesus, I watched your argument in the Fallout thread and no wonder your so upset.

do you also know a good paintjob? obviously not...I assume that for those 8 years you simply dipped your figurines in the paint and thought you were doing pretty good job.... anyone with 8 years of experience with painting should recognize this paint job as rubbish...that is if they have eyes in their head.

I know that was a joke:x unlike certain others I don't take everything literally...which brings me to:

I care...because it looks rubbish. you might be wearing black and grey right now...but you do realise that people who look at you don't just see the plane black and grey you wear? do you comprehend the concept of shades!? with 8 years of painting warhammer figurines you should know that to paint an Ultra marine you don't just apply Ultra marine(the colour) in it's plane form and call it the day(except if you're an idiot) you apply shadows and highlights and possible dry-brushing/washes. that was what I was reffering to...the figure uses 5 colours for everything, don't do manual shading/highlights but relies on dry-brush/wash for that...only problem is that only using dry-brushing for so large areas doesn't work.

uhm...that's not blatant shading...if you check out the other pictures you can see same shades on the high-points of the glove which makes no sense... I'm pretty sure that it's the dark/light points of the metalic undercoat that shines thru the rather poor and uneven thin layer of brown paint. common n00b mistake.

Ever heard of using the same material, too? Lead weights, perhaps a lead drill? No? And even so, as a product design student, I've seen my fair share in metal materials that look identical.

uhm... if you payed attention I was complaining that the canvas/rubber suit was painted the same metalic colour as the drill...but I guess it makes sense to you that the canvas is made out of lead...if it makes sense to you that the drill is made out of lead(hint: lead would be a stupid material for something like a drill...oh and even more stupid for a suit)...besides that's not the point...from an artistic view it doesn't matter that some materials are the same colour in the real world...but that you're able to properly convey colours to the audience allowing them to decipher individual shapes in a figure with ease...there's a reason Alyx isn't wearing clothing that matches her skin-tones, even though it would be entirely possible.

The portholes is a problem, I wholeheartidly agree. But jesus, I watched your argument in the Fallout thread and no wonder your so upset.

I don't see the relevance...other than the fact that I don't worship mediocrity(sp?).

with that said...since I actually live nearby Irational Games boston studio...I went down there and Told them straight up how dissapointed I was in the figure and that I had a couple of ideas that would positively improve it...I had brought along my paint kit from home...sursprisingly they fetched a plain model for me and told me to have fun with it(as they were actually dissapointed with it themselves) so they set me up in a corner in their cantine area(they couldn't really give me a tour or allow me access all over the place as I came uninvited and, as they said jokingly(?), hadn't had time to hide away secret stuff that wasn't for public eyes yet)...so I sat down and satrted painted...45minutes later this was the result:

I was pleased...AND so was the guys at irational...they talked briefly...and guess what- they liked it so much that, that will be the final paintjob for the collectors edition! I couldn't belive it at first... would have thought it would have taken a lot more effort...but they were just like: "we see your point...so...do you want to make the first couple of prototypes? and maybe supervise the paint -team?"...I nearly said yes straight away, then I remembered that I'm rather busy at school at the moment :x...I'll have to meet them again next week for further details.:afro:

Actually the above is a complete lie. I did do a quick pass in photoshop though which should show what I mean.

list of things changed:

1) painted "eyes" in the portholes...the poor guy has to be able to see.

2) changed all the leather colours(except the belt) to a darker tone to make a bigger differense between them and the rest of the figure.

3) added subtle oil/dirt smudge to the fingertips.

4) added same kind of smudge to the lower legs, to give the impression that the big daddy has been wading thru shallow water.

5) added dried in blood/rust to the lower half of the drill.

6) added same effect to primarily the left side(his right) and near/around existing blood spatter, to give the impression of blood spray/splatter.

7) added colour difference in the outer rims and inner plates of the metalic armour aswell as the helmet. to differentiate forms.

8) added different colour to bolts.

9) added proper colour to buckles on boots.

10) fixed leather straps tied to lead weights(was silver before)

11) changed "roll cage" to silver colour to differentiate shapes and be more true to the ingame model.

12)added subtle verdigris/rust near bolts.

13) fixed suit. the reason I did this was that the retarded metalic shine kept shining thru my paint over so I had to do something drastic to get the effect I wanted. oh and obviously the suit shouldn't be ****ing metalic!

I belive that was all.

refference material

refference for modified suit

refference for helmet

refference for "silver" "rollcage"

and there were a few others...but I've closed the taps and can't be bothered.

Was actually hoping for an artbook, but oh well, might as well enjoy what you can get :D

EDIT
Holy shit PoS! That's awesome. Congrats!!

WOW!!! That's amazing! :O   Are they actually going to sell that new one?

owned!

Lol, he's lying guys.
You really think so, or are you just skeptical?

You should add a slightly more blue-ish tint to the eyes.

nah when it comes to this kind of paint the green tint is much easier to work with...also the green tint is a nice off-set to the otherwise warm colour range of the model, making it "pop" without upsetting the balance.

Looks like the painter took a dump, threw it in a blender and then used it to paint the hand.

Lol it takes an art student to just drop by and say: "let me see this pos" *10 min later* "now here is a good looking action figure!" Irrational Games: "Holy shit!!!111! Why didn't we think of this?! You wanna be part of our team and oh say, $30 an hour? Oh and call the Chinese kid and tell him he's fired" :P  I bet that's how it happened too basically. Did it?

I must be only one that uses the blue forum style. :|

I just noticed the hidden message. Still it looks much better than the original.

Can kind of see a revelence now which is why I'm going to step out of this right now because huge quote wars make my eyes bleed. But seriously, I'm not even going to bother replying properly to your somewhat elitest and crude points because arguments/opinions over art don't work. Not in my eyes/exp. anyway.
