The critical and commercial hit BioShock will see its gameplay expand on the original experience when planned downloadable content becomes available, developer 2K has confirmed.

Ken Levine said the firm's upcoming downloads will focus on varying the in-game experience rather than simply adding extra levels.

?Diablo II, to me, was a great model for an expansion, because it enhanced the original game, but also extended the game, too,? Levine told Games for Windows Magazine. ?I'm not a really big fan of expanding things just by linearly adding to the experience, adding a new campaign, as much as I am of enhancing the original experience and adding replayability to that experience.

?I think that certainly BioShock's combat experience is great, but it could be broader. I'm a little more confused as far as how to expand the narrative experience.?

Not sure on the source since I copied it from a mate on another forum but yeah, cool. I've played Bioshock though about 8 times now, going through on my 9th now, so the possibility of adding more stuff is pretty excellent news, considering how much fun I have with the stuff already there on it's own.

Regardless of your opinion on Oblivion itself, I see no problem in releasing new expansions to play. Alright, the Knights of the Nine wasn't really any good, but the SHivering Isles was pretty worth it considering how much there was to do.

I see this as no bad thing.

so is this new areas or are they just adding new features to the gameplay like weapons and plasmids.

I would presume new weapons and Plasmids. I read that there was quite a few Plasmids that didn't make the final cut so it would be interesting to see what appears.

New areas would be nice but unless they want to drastically change the plot they'd have to be not-so important. I wouldn't mind expansion packs in the form of different areas, though. Like a download that opens up a factory district, or a labatory area, or a more in depth housing/living quaters environment, etc. Kind of similar to Shivering Isles where it just places a doorway into the game that leads to a downloaded area.

Yeah, the game has the bathysphere system, so they could just add a slot to that menu without a problem.

Ohhhh! Instead of releasing new content, how bout they release a patch so the game works?

It does work, and stop spamming the same post in every Bioshock thread like the broken Halo haters. We know your pc can't run this game well already, how about spamming it to 2K, the people who could make a difference about it?

This is something I may considering buying. I haven't touched the game on hard mode yet, so this would be a good incentive to crack into Bioshock again.

Hard mode made me rethink some tactics, pretty fun though. A lot of people (on this very forum) said it was too hard for them though o_O

At first Hard mode was pretty demanding, but like I've said I've gone through the game a goo 8/9 times now, 8 of those on Hard and it's become a walk in the park now. I'm hoping the new content involves some new Splicer types, and hopefully a new varient of a Big Daddy. :D

i remember screenies of big daddies that didn't make the cut. One looked like it had the main character's style nade laucnher fixed to one of its shoulders. The other looked like it had studded battering rams for arms.

i'd like to see those.

OMG, new alternate endings, maybe some more twists would be awesome. Probably hoping for too much though.

There's a picture of a really 'mutated' bent out of shape looking Rosie varient, too, with a sort of hunchback and singular viewing lense. Looked well creepy.
