Bird Flu Spreads to America!

Okay, some stuff about the bird flu from a doctor-friend of my sister's:

1. If you catch the bird flu, you have a 50/50 chance of surviving.

2. Obsessive hand washing WON'T help. You're more likely to catch it through the air.

3. As someone previously mentioned, it can be transmitted from human to human if combined with a different strain of the flu.
This can happen in pigs:
- The pig catches a random flu virus
- The pig catches bird flu
- Viruses combine
- Farmer John catches this new mutated form from Mr. Porker
- Farmer John doesn't stay inside the barn and ends up killing millions.
And just so you all can sleep well tonight, there are pigs in China with both.

4. To the person that said their immune system would pwn it, you're too right.
It would pwn it, and you. People die from the flu by an excess of chemicals from the white blood cells, which cause the lining of the lungs to swell up and suffocate the person. Similar to what happens to me if I eat a peanut -_-

Anyway. Poor donny :(

This has nothing to do with the media. Countries are hording Tamiflu because experts are saying we're long overdue for a pandemic, and now peolpe are getting what is supposedly a bird only disease, which is now infecting humans, and will adapt into this other strain
If you ask me, people aren't taking this seriously enough. I for one have started scrubbing my hands every time I take public transit. Dirty place, those subways
Um I do that anyway after getting places and stuff.

Scrub sounds strong though, I mean I just wash my hands, but still yeah...

I have my S10 respirator if i want full protection (and full NBC suits to boot)
I'm not gonna bother wearing it though, infact if bird flu does mutate i might deliberately get myself infected to "get it over with" so i then have immunity.
Get myself prepped with some herbs/nutrients and plenty of rest then snog some bird (no pun intended) with it.

Really it's weak people who should be worried, people who have neglected their health, so you would see lots of chavs/low lifes being dropped.

YOU ARE EXTREME!

Actually it's those with bad health and weak immune systems that more likely to survive as it's not actually the flu that kills you.

No, this is plain false. Weak immune systems and bad health never help.

As stated previously, it's the swelling caused by your immune system that ends up suffocating the person infected.

Look at it this way:
I have an allergy to peanuts. If I eat a peanut, my body goes nuts trying to destroy the evil peanut. In the process of trying to destroy the peanut, the immune system generates chemicals that cause swelling in my throat. The more of these chemicals are produced, the more tightly closed my throat is, and therefore, the less I can breathe.

Therefore, in that instance, my body kills itself using the immune system.
Now if I had a very weak immune system my body wouldn't be able to produce a strong response to the peanut, heightening my chances of survival.

I have to admit i know very little about bird flu itself, as you said earlier the antibodies produce lung swelling which causes the problems yeah?
Surely though, the people with bad health would be more likely to suffer more problems/die because their body cannot recover as quickly or fight the infection?
Afterall, if my body can clear the virus before it causes too much damage it is certainly more likely i will survive than someone who has a much higher percentage of the virus.
I would not allow anything to harm me anyhow.

EDIT:

Does the peanut have the ability to replicate itself inside your cells and take over your body however?
I'd sooner have my superior immune system, i have antihistamine herbs and drugs i could use anyway.

With one exception, transfusions and organ replacement, however this isn't exactly a natural proccess so i'll ignore that.

People with generally bad health will probably be weaker, and easier for the body to kill itself. It's a sad thing really. But without an immune system, we'd all die of fungal infections in our lungs, brains, or bloodstream. Ouch.

Yes, having a strong immune system is great to have unless there is a deadly bird flu sweeping the planet, something that doesn't happen often.

That's very counter-intuitive, but I guess it may be true.

Yes it is counter-intuitive. And I can't eat snickers :(

Oh, and the dreadful irony of it all:
The current flu shots are made out of raw egg, which I am allergic to.

*cries*

Maybe you could become a bubble boy to wait out any epidemic. :naughty:
