Birthday Penguin

Well, because im a cheap bastard i have decided that im going to do my friend a painting for her birthday. I know she really likes penguins so a penguin it is

Basicly im thinking i might do loads of littles posts so people can see the WIP and give me some advice and such as i go along so it can be a painting worth giving her.

So first post, this is just some general design stuff, im trying to get the little rascal looking pritty happy and cute, having a little bit of a hard job getting the look i want, he looks some what evil in the first cople of sketches.

Right, Second post.

Finaly decided on a design, got a cople of A4 pages of sketches but dont have a scanner so i cant post them up. But i have drawn up the design i like best in photoshop and posed him with the prezzy that i can't afford .

I really get what you mean about the oddness of the mouth, but thats the thing, its not really a mouth, its a beak and beaks dont move i dont move. I had to imprivise abit to try and get it to smile, dont really want a depressed penguin on a bday card

Last update for today, its 3am and im getting damn tired! Just started some work on the color, started off with a basic background color (black) and built up light and dark areas using different shades of greys and whites with a decreasing opacity level.

**Bird 1** Just laying out the main black area and filling in the main areas of orange.

**Abit more color** Working in the same way as the black but this time with blue greys and whites to build up the color of the torso section.

Ok, yea i did ask for comment but this comment your giving me isnt productive in any way, dont tell me to fix the feet if you cant tell me whats wrong with them. Saying "Fix the feet" means nothing to me.

Sorry no update tonight i am frigging pissed outta my face, i found like 14 cans of beer in me fridege and me and me mate have been drinking um, still got 3 to get through.

Another quick update. Layed out the color for the scaff, i mean i quite like it like that but i think it looks abit plain, but the cartoonyness of it goes with the rest of the pic.

Gerr! abit stressed out atm! I really dont know whats going on with painter but it just keeps turning off with no warning, no promped for saving no nothing, just lost an hours worth of work because of it.

Basily its getting late and now because of all the shit that just happened im just not in the mood, and i think im going to give this version to my friend and explain what happened and try and finish it over the next week or so.

** Background Template**

As you can guess that back ground is just an undercoat, i had down loads of cracks and ruffed up snow around the letters and feet but i lost all that and now im all GERRR
