Black Mesa beat out Aperture in the race for DoD contracts.

Black Mesa was actually formed as a research and development facility, as opposed to Aperture, which made curtains.

Aperture Science's founder went mad and then died, leaving control of the facility to an AI with a god complex. Black Mesa was founded by Dr. Breen, the greatest man who ever lived and the savior of humanity.

Aperture Science, you melt a companion cube. Black Mesa, you melt a casserole.

Aperture Science has turrets that can be easily knocked over--but they don't hate you. Black Mesa has turrets built into the friggin' ceilings, and they're cold, emotionless machines. They're too busy killing you to hate or not hate you.

Aperture Science made a neat gun that can portal you into the next room. Black Mesa countered with a portal gun that can teleport you into another dimension.

Black Mesa has a Xenian zoo underground.

Winner, Black Mesa.

Black Mesa for sure.

I get that eerie feeling thinking about BM now, with all those corridors, test chambers and creatures roaming around and the gore...win.

And in reply to someone, who said that "the portal gun beats the gravity gun", picture this:

The size of the room doesn't matter, but your in a room anyway, with all sorts of heavy stuff on the floor.
You are standing there with a Portal gun and there is another dude with the gravity gun.
You have to kill him and he has to kill you.

Do you really think, that making portals in the right places and at the right times, while throwing various items in them in hopes that they will actually hit the opponent, is SO much easier, than just picking stuff up and throwing it? You won't have time to do anything, when you get a toilet in your face...not very easy after all, is it?

So even though this has absolutely nothing to do with this poll, i'l say that the GG owns.

What? Gordon has nothing to do with the Aperture Science Enrichment Center...
That chick, who you play as, will be introduced...

That's what he meant. He voted for Black Mesa because there was no Gordon Freeman in Aperture.

Aperture Science
  • Highly-advanced and -efficient local teleportation technology.
  • Dark energy technology on par with the Combine.
  • Some use zero-point energy technology.
  • Incredibly advanced AI and *unverified* military androids.
  • *unverified* Technology to create complete neural back-ups of a human subject.
  • A complete lack of ethics.

Black Mesa
  • Highly-advanced but inefficient trans-dimensional and local teleportation technology.
  • Powerful experimental energy-weapons.
  • Some use zero-point energy technology.
  • Highly advanced AI, though seemingly incapable of speech.
  • The HEV suit (modified and employed by the US military).
  • Questionable ethics.

Winner:
GLaDOS

I concur with Darkside =D

Krink, portals, and teleportation, are practically the same thing.

Kevin, as much as I want to say this;
What you can do, is create a 'floor-ceiling' loop, then move the portal to some where else on the floor AFTER 'grav guy' has gained terminal velocity. . . 'SPLAT'.

I still believe BMRF>ASEC, BUT I had to point that out XP.

and, WTF is GLaDOS???

I had to GUESS that it was some AI like VIKI from I-Robot -_-

Blackmesa

I love the teleporter gun in opfor

I reckon the portal gun will be able to make portals in mid-air.
(in ep3, not portal)

Then portal gun v gravity gun = portal gun wins.

Gravity gun fire a explosive barrel at you.

You make a portal in mid air in front of you.

Then one above the opponent. And BOOM!.

So what are the chances of the opponent actually AIMING himself inside the portals, so that you could just end the loop and squish him?

More likely the opponent will try to avoid falling into the portal again as fast as he/she can.

Huh, indeed, my bad. Sorry Yogibbear, I am retarded.

black mesa causes resonance cascade, single handedly ensuring demise of human race.
also, is nuked. manly.

portal is abandoned and ignored, much like a retarded child, or an emo.

winner: me

Looks like Black Mesa wins out in the end.
D:!
Fanboys.

black mesa, it's just got that feeling you can't see in any other place. dark, spooky, huge place.

But Aperture Science is much more disturbing.. it's clean---
Too clean.

Too clean.

This is true...

How come if you choose the right thing all of the sudden you're a fanboy? ...I'm not a fanboy. :(

Btw, Black mesa = destroyed by over 10 different races of aliens, Military, Black ops, Gordon, Barney, Adrian, Odessa Cubbage, Your mom's fat ass... and the last one completely destroyed it. (Represented by the devastation of the nuke.)

Aperture = Destroyed by an AI program that was easily destroyed by manually melting easily detached parts off of an AI computer, hanging below a 40 or so ton main processor by it's wires... The damn thing was destroyed by a bitch with nothing but a portal gun... The thing practically killed it'self anyways.

Portal girl = saved herself.
Gordon & Adrian = Saved earth, and/or many lives, but in the end had to be rescued by Gman because Black mesa was of such importance that the damn place was crawling with bugs, and had to be destroyed.
Barney = too cool for G.man and escaped early. *Can't touch this.*

Aperture simply because of GLaDOS. No weapon or technology could compete with her personality.

They have turrets that fire the dark energy bullets faster than the Combine ones do (as far as I can tell) and they have identicle energy pellets.

They also have something similar to the confiscation device...though it does occationally remove teeth.

Aperature Science...just cuz it has that theme song :-P HUGE SUCCESS

I shoulda explained in detail, run away, have guy come after you, WHILE HE IS MOVING create loop and so on, unless of course, he has lighting reflexes, and grabs (and presumably throws) something first.

Chell ("Portal girl") = saved herself using knowledge, equipment and skills acquired from Aperture Science.

Gordon = doomed Earth by going through with a procedure he knew to be unsafe; has been trying to make amends since, but countless have died in the meantime; in all fairness he was setup and incapacitated by the G-man; some equipment from Black Mesa, very basic knowledge and skills from Black Mesa Hazard Course, but most from playing Quake at MIT LAN parties (i.e. he was new to Black Mesa, so special skills he has were presumably learned somewhere else).

Adrian = not a product of Black Mesa, military trained, so not meaningful in this argument.

There is absolutely NOTHING in the half life universe that fires a 'dark energy bullet', WTF?

The dark fusion reactor in Episode One (Well, we hear about it in HL2) is absolutely enormous. I haven't seen anything fire a projectile remotely similiar :p

The things fired out of the turrets in Portal are similiar to what the Overwatch soldiers / Synths use as weapons. It seems just to be a very very hot projectile (The material used to superheat it giving it it's nice blue glow)

id have to say aperture
i'm in love with what they do!

Ummm, no. Those are dark energy beams. What we've seen use them don't use ammo cases large enough to account for what is fired. Striders, for instance, don't have ammo cases, and rely on generators to fire. So, dark energy beams. QED.

We see dark energy lightning in the Citadel too, so it's possible to have dark energy beams.

The disitigration effect for stuff thrown into the Combine's dark energy crap in the citadel is the exact same as for the energy pellets. When a strider's bullets hit the ground you can see a minture version of this effect coming off the ground. These bullets are the same as, but larger, than those fired by the pulse rifle and turrets. They are all connected and are all dark energy. QED.

Use the spoiler tag or i will kill you

:) please do :)

It was hardly a spoiler, but I can see your precautions...

I shoulda explained in detail, run away, have guy come after you, WHILE HE IS MOVING create loop and so on, unless of course, he has lighting reflexes, and grabs (and presumably throws) something first.

Explain to me, why would i be coming running after you just like that?
Id rather throw radiators at you from afar than actually run after you and wait until you portalize(wtf?) me.

Aperture Science, simply because of Take-a-Wish Foundation.

Actually, it's very hard question. Just like question, what is cooler to be a pirate or ninja? :)

The cake is a lie.
Black Mesa.

Without Black Mesa it would be a boring story of Gordon looking through the want ads for employment. :p

C'mon... did Black Mesa had any Companion Cubes? no! Aperture Science, less moral more cube!.

Black mesa.Cool place.More realistic even if not all that realistic still more realistic than aperture.Aperture is to clean, looking like it is not all that productive except when cleaning.BMRF has more of a worn look to it.Like it is used for manufacturing, research and other intresting things. And how exactley did the borealis just disapear taking half the dry dock?Probabley a portal.Cause they were jaking off and boom.woops.
