Merry Christmas Black Mesa fans! We're proud to bring you some new media and updates on development progress!

First off, we'd like to draw attention to the fact that voting is taking place for Mod of the Year on the ModDB website! If you want to vote for us, visit this link, scroll down to Best Upcoming Mods, and click on our banner to vote!

Development has been going great and proceeding steadily towards completion. The team has really settled into an efficient development pattern, with very few bottlenecks arising in development now. Internal milestones have been organized to ensure a timely release, and we've been doing a great job of hitting those milestones. It's been very exciting to see so many different elements of development come together and make a playable game!

And now, to the media! We've decided to do a complete overhaul of almost all the previous screenshots, as well as offer them in a higher resolution, widescreen format. Previously released areas have undergone many changes during the course of the year, weapons have been tweaked and reanimated, and we've also got some new, previously unseen areas from both singleplayer and multiplayer to unveil!

This is not all, however, we've got a surprise in store that is currently in late stages of production and will be done very soon, we'll be sure and release it, as well as some other image-based media, when they are finished!

In an effort to keep the community more up to date with our progress, we've implemented a whole new "devblog" section to our website. Very WIP screenshots and informal text-based updates will be added to this section on a regular basis. Keep in mind that this is NOT to be considered official media, which is extremely polished and what we consider to be a glimpse of the final game. Rather, this is a look into the day-to-day workings of development structure and the community will be able to witness sneak peeks of different areas of development.

And finally, Black Mesa is seeking the following applicants as top priority:
Compiling Technician
Faceposer/Choreography Technician
Character Artists

ZOMBIES!!

Oooooh Baby!

There's a thread about this in Third Party Mods already.

But it does look awesome-cakes.

That is, without a doubt, the most kick-ass AR I have seen.

I'd cry, but my face has melted due to the AWESOME. :bounce:

This doesn't just look like any old mod. This looks like GOTY material.

This was totally awesome. I went to the site yesterday to just view the forums, and I find 100+ new totally awesome pics of the mod.

I really like the new weapon models now. But I will not look at that section anymore, because I want to go from chapter to chapter in the mod and then take a closer look to the guns in-game.

Also Residue Processing looks really mind blowing. And they have clearly made levels more realistic. Like those food elevators in RP, there was no reason why they went to water in that chapter, they seem to have changed that part so that there is just water pit but the elevators are not going there.

Many other parts are also changed to much better. They do really listen to public, as they added the water tower back to Residue Processing beginning.

Now I just want them to change the headcrab skin or normal map to something that fits the scientist zombies better. Those headcrabs also need some gory blood on them.

Also I want to know how the zombies are gonna eat now, their stomach is just ripped open one, no teeth there. In HL1 there were places when zombies were like, eating scientists.

I agree that this mod is extremely kick-ass but seriously that is no reason to have 3 threads about it.

But really, those screenshots are ****ing sexy! Seriously this should win Mod of the Millenium or something, extremely high-quality stuff here, I salute the creators.

Yeah that last shot looks awesome. The apprehension shots look creepy.

Also, the first person HEV arms/hands look better than shown in the previous screenshots.

Looks pretty. Shame the Marine model doesn't live up to the kickassedness of the original
You are thinking of the HD model, surely? The original HL model was too low poly to make out his face from his arse.

I wonder if that MP5 will be less "random come of fire"? The original was pretty bad.

I prefer the cone of fire to Counterstrike's 'memorize the spray pattern' model. *shudder*

Lol @ random come of fire.

Looking nice, although I never did like their zombie very much. I think it's the lab coat.

XD you got me on that one.

Yeh, but a better method would be very :>

any chanse of a predicted release date because that looks so good. i never played the original HL but i loved HL2 and episodes

Bits of it look a little inconsistent. The model quality of the jeep, for example, is far and away above the model quality of the computer terminal in the second screenshot. Hopefully that's just a WIP thing and will be cleared up later.

Maybe because the jeep is a showpiece that is supposed to draw the eye, and the terminal isn't?

Obligatory bounce: :bounce:

Anything in a screenshot is immediately a showpiece meant to draw the eye, so the quality should be consistent for everything in a screenshot.

I remember I saw a leaked screenshot of the resonance cascade during my brief term as a mod on the Black Mesa forums. It was hilarously bad. There was just random crap falling from the ceiling, including a blue barrel!

I was assured that the later builds were much better though. :p

Well, I'm looking forward to playing through it...I hope to hell I fix Steam by the time it comes out or Valve is going to hell.

That would be most welcome. The weapon that is arguably supposed to be the most used in Half-Life is pretty inaccurate at midrange and damn near useless at anything beyond that.

I hope that when Gabe/Valve boot this up on their computer and play it, they go contact these guys and hire them. They are following the mod and giving them advice and encouraging them. I really hope that the community pushes for that effort as well.

That's just a render too that's still WIP. So he obviosuly won't have that D: face on. They know what they are doing and won't screw things up. ;)

I approve of the art design choices made.
The scientist, soldier, and mp5 replacements look great.

I'm also happy with the fact that they went with the MP5 instead of the M4. I really disliked how Blue Shift changed the weapon models, for some illogical reason.

Well I don't know what WIP is but the pic in question involves a marine at some distance to Gordon. I imagine a close up of the grunt will look more similar to the pic I posted(although not at quite the same resolution).

According to the weapons section there may be both.

The M4 also appears to have the handguards of the newer models which I think is pretty cool.

Glad to see the shotgun virtually unchanged.

They made both and you can change it using console commands. Since Half-Life fans are really whiny about this sort of thing.

Nikos "Jennifer" Makridakis?!? cross-dress much?

last does look the best... one of those floors looks made out of lego lol

Because US special forces units use M4's, not MP5's.

In the Blue Shift High-Res pack, did the M4 gain its own ammo, or did it still use 9mm like the MP5?
