We all know that it has been quite some time now since we have seen some solid media updates. The team working on Black Mesa: Source want to make it clear that the development is still going smoothly and they are working on releasing their internal alpha build.
We at Black Mesa: Source apologise for the lack of updates released as of late, we assure any eager fans that we things are still moving along smoothly behind the scenes. In the last month or so, we have been working hard on bringing our alpha builds together, stomping out bugs, testing concepts and adding new visuals into Black Mesa: Source. Credit goes to Nokia for the amount of work put into turning all of our ideas into a playable reality…[br]…So what does this mean for those who are watching our mod? It means the possibility of an in-game trailer is getting stronger by the build. However, the proliferation of all this content in such a quick time span, as the G-man might put it, has given us only a small glimpse of the file size of the end product of Black Mesa: Source - At version 0.0.3, we are already weighing in at 350 megabytes of textures, models, and code assets.
Ingame trailer? Sounds good to me! I’ve been watching this mod for a while now and I really can’t wait to play it. Alas, it looks like I will have to be waiting a bit longer…[br]Read more of their progress report at ModDB.com.

With all these mods that are something from HL1 being converted to Source, it really makes me want to see HL2, but on the HL1 engine.

Hop to it someone (someone thats not me).

looking forward to playing it, cant wait!

There are actually remakes from the bink movies on hl1 way back when they where released, pretty cool stuff. no idea where to download them now though :(

Only 350mb? How far are they along with development?

30%

Sounds kl, back to lurk mode on the leak-free forums then

Yeah, I remember playing a HL1 level, that was a remake of the physics demo in the 2003 E3 video. Good stuff.

some far, considering that the distopa mod only weighs in at a healthy 112.83 MB

This is one of the mods I have been waiting for. With this, it seems like it won't end up like opposing source.

It's a shame that OP:S ended up like it did. Oh well, it looked great though.

Ahh, ingame-trailer? Oh yes, please! Can't wait for this.

This was always a long term project. I love how they've been very realistic about their time goals. Instead of saying: "Oh, we'll rip it out in 3 months", they've instead stuck to a 1-2 years thing.

I still hope I'm proven wrong in my thoughts about how this will turn out. Progress is pleasing nevertheless.

You wait 6 years for half-life 2 and 8 years to replay half-life source on the same graphical level as hl2.. Course that's something that rarely happens (I wish they redid Thief and Thief 2 in some new engine, such lovely things.)

As far as progress goes, they are not at the stage where you can run through the game, let alone a whole level yet.
I do have good faith in their work and look forward to playing the mod.

And you would know how can I ask?

We actually have two chapters finished up I believe..

The biggest assets in a mod will generally be the levels. The Dys Demo was nice and small because it only contained 1 level. Vaccine is 23 meg or so.

Since there were 96 maps in HL1, I'd expect the BM: Source package to be pretty damn huge :)

I don't care how huge it is, as long they don't forget the roaches. It just wouldn't be the same not hearing them crunch underfoot.

And giving away your position and then getting owned as a result.

Sad to see Angry Lawyer go. I remember seeing him around these forums... I can't wait until this mod comes out though... Looks amazing... Hopefully everything goes well throughout the course of the project.

We need the roaches! It just wouldn't be half-life if it wasn't for the roaches!

That was really the first big thing that really blew me away in the first half-life demo was when i got off the elevator and i was stepping on roaches and they scurried away... that was so cool, VERY nice detail touch.

I have confidence in this team (especially the mappers, most of whom are from the NS community and one of whom -Mendasp- created two official maps for Natural Selection: he's caretaker of Bast and Sava is his own work. IIRC some of them also worked on Zombie Panic). The fact that they have the balls to release a news update with no media content shows just how much confidence they have in their own abilities. People who understand where this self-assuredness is coming from, like me, will be content just to see that they're still keeping the fans posted.

:D, Cripsy hit her right on the nail. We basically just want to keep people updated that we're striving towards something which we feel the community really wants to see. A lot of mods can show a lot of things seperate like cool looking model renders, amazing level shots and stellar sound clips: but it's how it all comes together is the big deciding factor with several mods.

We, BMS, felt that we needed to tell watchers and fans this so they would not begin to suspect we're dead. We're gearing up and pushing forward, November will feature another announcement. More information as it arives.

I'm guessing they had a problem with the Glock code just before Angry Lawyer left.

The finished Glock was my leaving present to them. I'm intrigued to know if it worked to specification.

I just want to cap some Vortigaunt beyatches with my Glock.

With that comment, I have no doubt you're THE Crispy in the Sava credits file ;)

Still yet to see how the vent layout worked out (no constie test for me with Forums down).
