I recently purchased the Silver package Via steam, and had had everything Preloaded onto my computer for quite some time, although, when I try to play CS:S the game just loads up to a black screen. I think I can move over and click on buttons because I hear sounds when I move my mouse over and click on certain areas of the screen, and Fraps shows changes in my framerates when I do that.

I did have a flick through the forum to see if this had been answered before, but I couldnt find anything. I apologise if this has been answered before. If it has, just point and laugh or whatever =)

[EDIT]

Oh yes, some System Specs may help:

2.8Ghz P4 800Mhz FSB, HT tech
768Mb DDR400 RAM
40Gb HDD with approx 6Gb free
Sapphire X800 Pro 256Mb

This happend to me once just try restarting computer. Note: Dont click a CS Source server or try to join it before you actually loaded CS:S because when i did that it came up with a black screen also.

I've tried the following:

Rebooting my computer
Downloading latest drivers & rebooting again

To try to play the game I have tried both going to Play Games then clicking on Counter-Strike: Source, and Clicking on Servers then trying to join a CS:S game, both of which result in Black screens.

:(

I had something similar happen to me before, but it wasent CSS. I reinstalled steam, didnt delete the game content just reinstalled. To be safe i made a backup of my game content folder.

Well I've reinstalled steam - twice - but I still get the same black screen... I moved the SteamApps folder with all the .gcf files (just in case) and then moved them back after, do you think it could be that?

I think I may have to delete the game content and preload it again to get it working. I'll back it up beforehand though.

I redownloaded the files:

counter-strike source client.gcf
counter-strike source shared.gcf

But I still have the same problem :(

[EDIT]

Problem Solved! :D

For some reason, my Graphics Card had the pixel shader version set to 2.1, I selected "Disable Override" and it worked again.

You can all point and laugh now
