So... who's gonna watch this thing on FX? I personally am, it looks pretty good.

It premieres this wednesday, don't miss it!

omg black people and white people are different! quick call fox news!

i don't really know what it's about i saw a thing for it, and it looked like they just turned black people white and white people black...probably to 'enlighten' each other about the other's 'problems'.

This is going to be a stupid, over dramatized show again. White people have problems and black people have problems, often we have the same problems.

And guess what, there's a subway over here i can go to and it'll take 15 minutes before i get my food, I’ve been at the cash register for 5 minutes waiting for somebody, while two black people prepared the 3 black guys food behind me, and another black guy organized the chip and cookie cabinet. This is not the only time it's happened also.

I also live in a predominantly white neighborhood and i have black friends that say they've never had a problem with anything like racism. People are assholes no matter where you go, it doesn't matter what color you are.

I will probably just watch the first episode, because it will aggrevate me to no end--just like 97% of all TV does now.

Hey lets make racist comments, cracka!

come on now, I bet you thats how its gonna be.
The white kid is gonna move to some neighborhood, and then its gonna be like this

We dont trust ye,your gonna have 2 prove yourslef 2 da hood If you want a ghetto pass!
Thats the only way that the show can be.If they take a black kid out of a nic e neighborhood, the show would be boring and nobody would watch it.

Dude, don't bring any ****ing racism into this thread. This show isn't about ghetto's, you moron, and ghetto's are not racially defined.

The show's premise, from what I understand, is to turn these families to the opposite race, as realistic looking as possible, and sort of incorporate them into white/black social groups I imigine, and see how differently they treat them compared to if they were a different skin color. You know, be more willing to socialize or open up and freely have a good time, or whatever.

It's a social experiment, simply put. I'm gonna watch it. If its not good, I won't continue to watch, if it is... if it shows good qualities, I will.

I think that two things in this thread sound stupid: Lemonking and the show.

Never seen it :-/ I mean, i've seen it on, but never watched it.

One of the top 5 TV shows of all time. I would be willing to say it is my favorite, better than The Simpsons and Seinfeld.

But this is about some crap reality TV show, not Arrested ;)

Hey. I like this show, I don't care what anyone else thinks.

I've just finished watching the second episode of it... and I like the show <shrugs> it reveals alot of ignorance, misconceptions, truths. It also shows alot of stereotypes, which i'm not too happy about... but still, the people are mature and honest when they're confronting them and talking about them. And overall... I think its a good show.

plz give me a list of stereo types you saw.....

I can't list them all, but i'll list some of em.

1. The fact that white people have a monopoly on cultured high style living.

This is obviously bullshit, as white people aren't the only 'high class' people. Which high class I find rediculous. White people aren't always golfing and bullshit.

2. Black people are rap oriented and the walk they talk is universal in their culture.

Bullshit. Not all black people like rap and stuff, and they don't all talk in the same way.

I can't exactly remember any others at the moment... But I must say, out of the two families, I like the black family more. The two white parents, Bruno and Carmen, are rather naive, but their daughter is not only hot... but she's very open minded and ****ing awesome. The son of the black family is pretty quiet, its hard to get much personality opinion about him, but he seems pretty cool.

Do you now know what I ment? I knew the show would be like this.

I ****in knew it Im watching some of it as we speak, they put a dumb arrogant white women,a black kid that likes bling 2 much and spends 2 much money on it,thnak god is dad keeps him in place (seems like a good dad).this series is so stupid all it it does is create more racial lies how differnt we are and what not

"oh look at the black drummers!" that dumb white chick was acting like she was in another country jeez, all it was ,was a neighborhood with a few blalcl people playing the drums.or this one chick calling her a brother a "negro" in an arguement, thats like me saying to my sis "you stupid white ass cracker"
Isnt that exsactly what this society wants 2 get rid of?This kind of stereo type behavior that creates hate? I really cant understand why you like this Raz.

I haven't seen the third episode yet. Maybe you should watch the first two. The black kid is NOT shallow... he wasn't obsessed with material possessions. He was just quiet, and nice.

What you have to understand... is that these are two real families. They're not paid to behave certain ways. They just act as they are. If they act that way, you can bet your butt there's other families out there that act the same way.

The black family is not your stereotypical black family, whatever the hell that stereotype might be. These people are intelligent, witty, cultured... and opinionated. They feel there is racism out there, which there is... and they react to it. If this family was stereotypical of 'any' family... the world would be a better place.

The white family... well, the parents are naive but nice and well meaning, even though their ignorance can sometimes shine through. They're similiar to the black family in many respects. The daughter on the other hand... I think she's awesome. Her behavior and intelligence shown in the first two episodes(which I haven't seen) is just remarkable, and so is her open mind about everything.

All in all... the show depicts two similiar families, with some key differences of mentality on how they percieve things in life, and how they react to them. This show isn't a negative show that is furthering stereotypes... its attempting to break the stereotypes people may have of other races. I think you need to open your eyes a little bit Lemonking, and watch the first two episodes before you start judging the people on the show with the quickness of a finger snapping.

2 overcome those stereo types,we must first stop thing about "race differnces all the time. The white people must give blacks the same chances in a ,job, relationship as they would with a white person .The leaders of the black comuminty must stop being so negative, instead of :"we must get our brothers and sisters out jail no matter what" attitude, they must ask them self what can they do encourge, the ones that dont live in wealth like many white folk do,not 2 turn to drugs, not use racism as an excuse.and that god damn gangsta bull crap should be banned EVERYWHERE,its destroying the minds of black, white, asian, latin teens.it glorifies violence, drugs, and women as "objects"
And since its you see black artists on MTV most of the time gloryfying this "gangsta culture",that furthers racial bias, and hate.

Thats basicly my thoughts, what I think need 2 be done.call me racist I dont care

Just finished watching the latest episode, the third one.

Another good episode, in my opinion. A little more intense than the previous two, with more focus on the hostility of the racism experienced.

Bruno(the white dad) once again shows is ignorance and naievty when he's in the predominantly white cowboy type bar. He's wearing the black makeup, yet he ignores or is completely CLUELESS of the hidden hostility and disinterest that his wife Carmen(who is also wearing the black makeup) is experiencing and picking up on. The white people are obviously casting rude glances and their behavior just reeks of concealed racism.

Later on... Bruno continues to show his ignorance. While he didn't see the white racism against blacks previously, it was made all too clear to him when they were in compton(in black makeup) with his wife(in her own white skin). The nice woman that Carmen befriended was explaining to them the hidden hostility was because Bruno(percieved as a black man) brought a white woman into a predominantly black area. Carmen felt it there too... and Bruno felt it... but he stupidly only saw it when it was against him by black people, and not also by white people. It was the exact same situation there with the drummers and the people in that park, as it was in that white bar. Racism, pure and simple. White people and black peoplee are equally capable of it.

And its not just white people or black people. It's any group of people that have such trivial differences as skin color. Whites who are racist against mexicans... and mexicans who are racist against whites(which I experience all the time where I am).

As far as what you were saying, Lemonking, about the kid and the bling bling. Yeah, in that episode it goes into it. I guess the kid does like the whole material possession thing. But anybody is capable of that, not just black people... fact is, the kid is just young and impressionable, and he just likes material things, I guess. Which his parents wisely and strongly tell him of their distaste towards. Brian and his wife(the black parents) continue to show their parenting skills and all around decentness as people.

Any kid would be lucky to grow up with those two as parents.

I dunno, I may be reading too much into it all... but the show is a success in my eyes. It's not negative - It shows negative things about the reality we live in - but its not negative. Its a good show, and you can only get something from it if you allow yourself to.
