Ok we got some rough news for you UK people. First off, you guys will get the 5 disc edition. It comes in a tin though (no briefcase) and no origami in it.

The American version has this:

So unless you can crack the region encryption, you're kinda screwed. Another news bit is that since I live in MA, NY is near me. So on Saturday, which is tomorrow, I'm heading to NYC to see the final cut! I'll tell you how it is! :cheese:

Jesus christ!

FIVE DISKS FOR ONE MOVIE?!

What in God's name could they possibly cram onto all of those?!

Briefcase for Voight-Kampff test machine? That's cool, even tin box is pretty.

It's also being released on Blu-ray and HDDVD (which is region free for those who need the case).

blu-ray is not region free although HD DVD is.

I prefer the tin anyway and it's actually pretty cheap for 5 discs.

Good thing I'm bringing along my PSP. It types like a cell phone, but at least I can say how it was quickly (it's got wi-fi and a web browser and a pos worthless device). Going with my parents because they remember renting out the original Blade Runner lol. So I'm bringing my camera and it can take videos also. Not gonna bring it in the cinema. :p I'm really hoping they have Blade Runner fan stuff like a t-shirt but I doubt that. I don't know what's going on today so look back here for my thoughts.

Keep us posted, please, I wish I was in your situation.

I haven't decided between the 4 and 5 disc editions yet, I think I'll probably spring for the whole nine yards and get the expensive one.

I'm actually really excited about this, I don't really buy many DVDs (collection is <20), so for me to splash out on the full set when I've already got the existing release shows what a fantastic film is. I'm really intrigued to see both the original release (w/ voiceover, which I've a feeling might be hilarious) and the fully jazzed-up final cut.
I watched the existing DVD again this week and I've only really now realised quite how fantastic the film really is, I've always felt it to be a very intelligent and stylish sci-fi but having watched again with a bit more attention, I'm now of the opinion that it's a piece of art. The differences between the versions makes it actually worth paying out again - plus, 18 quid (on play.com) for a five-disk set is fantastic.

Sucks that it's not getting a full theatre release, the final cut would be stunning on the big screen.

I really wish that the PC adventure game would work on XP as I've got a proper BR fever lately. Anyone played it?

I've read the book, and watched the movie when about 8. (my dad turned it off because of the nudity though)

I should probably go and get the movie. Though I've heard its disappointing for those who read the book. (replacing the dust with rain!? Removing anything about Mercer and Christianity? No Buster Friendly? etc...)

Blade Runner isn't disappointing to anyone who likes science fiction movies.

TBH, I found the movie much better.

Eh, I wouldn't go that far.

I love sci-fi and was bored to tears by Blade Runner.

It's not just an sci-fi film (or just a detective story) and you shouldn't watch it as if that's all it is.

It's got themes, maaan. ;)

I love sci-fi stuff or whatever but I couldn't get into Blade Runner at all. I'd love to, but I must of watched it five times now and I still can't enjoy it.

I still need to read the book. I thought the film was pretty good, but I heard the book was much better.

I can't understand someone not liking Blade Runner, it's such a great movie.

I... have never seen Blade Runner.

I know I need to. I want to. But for some reason or another it just hasn't happened yet. I often lament over the memory of the VHS tape of it my father had before he chucked it out during spring cleaning.

Get that sorted man. I first saw Blade Runner when as a little kid, having never heard of it before, and was utterly spellbound from start to finish. It's one of those movies you just sit back and let happen to you. Up there with Jaws and Indy.

Christ man, if you have to, wait until you're back in NC and I'll let you borrow it. Actually, you could probably have my old Director's Cut DVD seeing as how I'm getting this new box set when it comes out and I won't need it anymore. See it, though, just let the movie be what it is and observe.

Blade Runner is the first non-Star Wars science fiction movie I knew existed... I remember seeing a poster for it in the little local movie rental place when I was six or seven and asking my parents about it because I recognized Harrison Ford from Star Wars.

My dad did a piss poor job of taking pictures of any kind for that matter. He insists that the camera is good but it's really a pos. I urged him to take a 35s video of the movie and put it on youtube but he said "oh it will be out anyways". Completely ****ing retarded idiot. He did take a video when everybody left though but the camera made the video all black.

Anyways the traffic wasn't bad at all and was a rather nice drive. We all agreed to go for the 4PM showing. So when we got there at like 12:54ish my dad took those photos. My dad said we should see it twice but we didn't cause I wanted to see Times Square, etc. So we tried to get tickets and the clerk said that the movie was on at 1PM and we missed 5+ min and counting of the movie. So instantly I say to my mom "don't get the tickets!" I really don't want to miss the opening especially in a theatre. So my stupid mom gets the tickets anyways. I'm kinda rushing while my parents are doddling around and I quitely open up the doors to see it. I stopped near the starting of the seats and just started watching for a bit. I got to the scene when Bryan is driving Deckard to the police HQ. I quietly sat down and then my mom had to go to the bathroom because of her over active bladder. So I'm just watching the film with a feeling of :O and :D. So anyways it's not the same Blade Runner. This is because the film has been cleaned up to such extent that you can't tell it was made in the 80's!

In fact I thought it was hi-def but the theatre doesn't have it my dad said. So I can't tell you how kick ass the hi-def must be like. There arn't many deleted scenes neither. Sure there might be a few 3 sec new clips, but if you saw the clips on yahoo, then you've seen the majority of the final cut new scenes. A few things are worth mentioning that I think they did greatly though. No more are the strings attached to the spinners. No mysterious cuts appear on Deckards face. Tyrell gets even more ****ed up in this version. Batty crushes his skull and they like literally show his thumbs going into the guys head with blood gushing everywhere. Snake ladys tits are in this (now it's considered R lol). A few extra scenes of the street which really makes the BR game an expansion to the movie. Pris gets shot like 3 times and you can sorta see her guts. In fact the film has been cleaned up so well you can see pores on the actors. The make-up on Rachels face looks caked on and so does Deckards it's so good. It definitally feels like the full version.

It leaves out tons of deleted scenes which should be interesting to see what those were. One of the scenes includes the cop who was shot in the start of the movie. He is on life support and tells about the Nexus 6 who shot him in the back. Look up bladezone.com for more info if your interested. There was no stuff for the fans and most of the people in the theatre didn't even know who was the actor for the main character. So I would highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend you getting that HD-DVD player and the 5 disc edition and put it on a projector or something. It is what it is, the final cut, and it certainly feels like it. Oh the unicorn scene is still in but the scene with the desert is cut out. It just slams the elevator door shut and the movie ends. Get some 5.1 surround sound speakers too. Music was constantly playing in every scene and it was cleaned up as well. The sound is really rich and just sounds so nice. Whenever Deck fires his gun it doesn't make that pow anymore it feels like a real gun with a real pow now. This version makes you feel like your part of the action. I just can't wait lol. Ask any q's if you have any btw.

Forgot to add this in but I really want to stress this. If you thought that Blade Runner was really bright, full of technological lights and so on, you ain't seen nothing yet! Since it's been cleaned up it's like the color version of The Wizard of Oz. The colors just realy jump out at you and everything seems alive. I think that's what really got to me including the blimp. Thing looked real!

Sounds great, appreciate it Hool :)

*reluctantly stays in thread*

Thanks for the description hool, sounds brilliant.
