Anyone else ever play this awesome point-n-click adventure game?

I played it back when it was new. I remember being amazed that it came on so many disks.. Like 4 or 5.

I recently discovered that there's actually alternate endings to this game, which I think is pretty cool. And since I can't even remember what happened at the end (in fact, I can only distinctly remember a bit where I got stuck on a space station, trying to find flint to start a fire), I thought I'd find the disks and fire up the game again.

After searching, I managed to find some of the disks lying around, but there's one or two missing, and those left behind look scratched beyond all hope of repair, so I took it upon myself to locate the game through alternate sources.

Semi OT: What is the legal situation of downloading a game which you already purchased? I mean, its almost the equivalent of me making a backup copy when I originally purchased the game. Almost.
Would I be right in thinking that I purchased a license to use the software, and that the media I use to run said software is irrelivant?

Not necessarily. It's shaky legal ground, I think, but certainly less shaky because you already own it.

I ban all talk of Blade Runner in the gaming section unless it's news about a NEW game ...freakin getting me excited for nothing!!! ;(

yeah no kidding i came in here like ZOMG WOOT and then read the first sentence and was immediately crestfallen

can you ban f0rked for a month please?

jk! dont ban him :)

I can assure you that if you are missing a disc, you must purchase the game again, although you would be the last person they would be worried about if you ask me, d/l an old ass game that probably isn't manufactured anymore. They would tell you to check ebay though, as you don't physically own the working game, then you can't d/l a backup.

I'm 99% sure that it doesn't matter if it was lost, sold, stolen, or broken - for the record, you must own the working copy of the game to have a back-up.

Different countries almost certainly have different rules though, so check local laws. :p And that is that.

Thanks for clearing that up VirusType2.

And sorry for getting everyone elses hopes up lol. I too hope they make a sequel someday, though considering the original is almost 10 years old its looking pretty unlikey. Who even owns the rights to use the Blade Runner IP in games? Was it not Westwood, who then became part of EA? If so I don't know if I'd want EA to make a shitty sequel and tarnish the Blade Runner universe.

So you want news on BladeRunner huh? Well very soon they should release a collectors edition soon with all the extras. :D And the fans are pusing for BladeRunner: The Remake. Just imagine offworld in CGI lol!!! :naughty: I have the game and I have seen all the endings. Btw I also got the Blade Runner "Limited Edition" Collector's Set DVD in EB games. I have'nt opened it and I will never open it. :naughty: DC comics also made some BR comics too. Lets make this a BR thread lol! :E

Doesn't matter, your not going to get caught.

They aren't going to make anymore money off of that 10 year old PC game "Blade Runner", because, the chances of them repackaging that game to be sold again are absolutely zero if you ask me...............................

As for a sequel, well, since it's been so long, there will almost certainly be a different company picking up the rights, and they will more than likely just create a totally different blade runner game - if that ever happened. I almost hope they don't. The chances of it being good are always lower. They pay so much money for the movie license, they don't have any money to spend on making the game by paying the best programmers with the best tools, and the best designers and artists, and they end up with a bunch of scanned art of the movie and an average game.

To me, it never feels official. I doubt the creators of the movies had any input on the plot of the game or anything. **** that dude. Just make a different game thb. Make up your own futuristic 'universe.' I hate how game designers fall on movie licenses like a crutch.

Like what AiM said about The Godfather in the other thread, "they damaged the reputation of such a great movie by making that game."

I still have this game in the original box. I don't think I ever completed it though.

I'd upload the files somewhere for you, but I'm guessing the CD's are all 600mb+ which is too much for me. You'd probably need a proper .iso file too or something.

That's okay, I've already found a source for it :)
Plus I think at least one of my CD's is in a good enough condition to make an .iso of.
Also, I notice you're from Edinburgh StardogChampion? That's pretty cool. I go to uni there.

Yeah this is getting onto the generally accepted fact that most of the time, game adaptions of movies really suck. Obviously the original Blade Runner is an exception. I think the Blade Runner partnership actually did have an influence in the game, and were responsible for drawing up a lot of the story etc. I could be wrong though, only I think I remember reading that, a long time ago.

A publisher/development house could always try to get rights to the IP for the various books that were released as official sequels to the original, and could stick within their story. But yeah since so much time has passed, I doubt there's any commercial interest in a Blade Runner project. Though imagine a Blade Runner game, in a current/next gen engine. A 3rd person adventure, using a souped up San Andreas engine would be awesome, if it was made well. Or really any futuristic adventure game in a sprawling neon metropolis would be good, providing it had a decent plot.

yes if it were not for the direction of Ridley scott, the visionary designs of Syd Mead and the brilliant sounce material Bladerunner could have turned out to be just another mediocre sci-fi movie isntead of the greatest sci-fi film ever made.

I also think the film noir aspect should be accredited to Ridley scott ..the original philip k dick detective story set in the future ..Scott made it into hard boiled film noir detective story set in a believeable future

I did mention that Blade Runner is my favorite movie of all time didn't I? In other threads perhaps? (it's almost 20 years old now though). I guess that is why I am so negative about a game for it. It would have to one ****ing good game to get my approval damn it.

See my avatar. I agree, too. If a BR game was done, it would have to be stellar.

Actually , I think it's perfectly legal to d\l the game if you bought it. Like the topic opener said , he purchased the rights , he owns the game so he can d\l it no matter if at this point of time one or more cd's are missing.

Since we're discussing BR anyway, what kind of game could it possibly be now? There wasn't much action in the book/movie, so I guess a third person adventure game?

I did not know that this game was popular, where I work there two blade runner game posters in the windows. Looking at how there sun faded that game must be old ?

dear god yes

The original Blade Runner game rocked.

I think there are lots of possibilities for a new one, perhaps another adventure game? I think that'd be the only option. It definitely shouldn't be an all-out action game.

On a side note: The opening shot of Blade Runner was inspired by a British Steel plant that's about 15 miles away from where I live. Which is pretty cool.

I win at this thread because I was at a party attended by Sir Ridley Scott! Go me! ;)

BladeRunner: Source!!!:naughty: Did anybody ever read, "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?" In the movie Rick and the android girl had a love thing going on but they were roughly the same age. In the book the girl is like 8 and they actually have sex together! :x That seriously made me go wtf. And then she betrayed Rick by pushing off his new real sheep off the roof of his house. At the end of the book you get a sense of, "That bitch ****ed me and killed my 1million dollar pet." It ended really harsh and made you fully understand how crap life is at the end. I really wish I knew how to mod HL2 so I get make a BR Source game.

The Blade Runner adventure from years ago was easily one of the best adventure games to come out. It was tons of fun and looked great for its time. I still love it to pieces!

That said, just get another complete copy on eBay. Its not super expensive or hard to find. Enjoy!

I didnt know there was a dvd version.. Were DVDs even in use in 97?

Yeah I have a copy of it now :D im playing it again and it rocks.
Also about the book: it was always my understanding that the simulant was 8 years old, but was created (born?) with the body of an 18 to 20 year old. Then again, I could be wrong. It's been a while since I read it.

I'll post screens for the benefit of those who never played the game, if anyone wants to know how the best game of '97 looked. :p

If anyone did try a BR:Source it would lose any adventure aspect to it and probably become your standard action mod. That said, a combination of The Ship style gameplay, mixed with Team Deathmatch and the Blade Runner universe could be sweet if pulled off well. With one team trying to kill the simulants and the other team trying to blend into the crowd, and/or kill Blade Runners without being apprehended or retired.

It came with a friend's PC that had a DVD drive, along with a couple other games. I don't think they actually sold it seperately.
