Bleaching Black Hair?

Im considering bleaching my hair (not forever) for Red Nose Day and getting sponsered for it. :E So has anyone done it before with black hair? Im guessing it will have to be permanent. then when it grows out I can cut if off. Anyone know any DIY kits or recommend any? Id prefer to do it myself than pay a ludicrous amount for a professional.

I've got medium/light brown hair and often bang blonde streaks in it. I tend to use the mid strength stuff, which gets it blonde.
You might wanna try the blondist (is that a word?) stuff you can get your hands on, but it might not work.

On pretty much all of the hair dye stuff you'll get a chart showing what colur hair you'll get after using the product, depending on your hair colour before.

As for actually bleaching it, I'd get some money and let a pro do it. For a start you need the right stuff (DON'T just use bleach) and it's quite a bit of stress on your hair, could damage it if you don't do it right.

Yes, it will be permanent. And it will take a good strong bleach to make black hair blonde. I've bleached my hair many times. Mine is brown, but still it took a good amount of bleach to get a light blond color that I wanted so that I could dye it blue. (this was many years ago during my days as a rebelious punk).

Do it yourself,. its not hard. It may take a few tries though to get it as light as you want it. And be sure to have some good conditioner, because your hair may be a little fried.

Red Nose day is a Charity day where people get sponsored to do things for the red nose charity which's gimmick is selling red plastic noses people wear and raising money for causes in Britain.

It's a big charity event in the UK. They have a night of TV where celebs do funny things, show reports on poor countries, and get you to ring in and donate money. It's based around the idea of using comedy to get people to give money. Hence you buy a red nose (symbol of clowns/ comedy) and the money goes to the red nose appeal, or comic relief, as it's also called.

It's nice, and they tend to make a lot of money from it.

I wish they'd do "political awareness appeal" where we are told how, despite all the money we're giving, it's almost impossible to make a lasting difference in poorer countries without removing the hold many western countries have on them, with heavy taxation on exports, and especially the third world debt, which is just sick, seeing as most countries are now just paying off the interest, and are unlikely to ever be able to get out of it.

Yeah, you tell your mates, I'm dying my hair for RND, will you sponsor me for it. They say, "well if you do it I'll give you a fiver". He does it, he collects money, he sends the money to the appeal. It's nice.

Pretty much. People just set up fund-raising events for the charity, and lot's of people get involved and get their mates to sponsor them. So, 5 of your mates will give a tenner each if you hop around all day.

same i got highlights. but number 1 shaves on the both sides, makin my hair look like a sorta spikey mohican.

simonomis, i suggest you dye your hair electric light blue, that would be more unoriginal, every 1 dyes thier hair black nowadays. :hmph:

After a bit of research, looks like for black hair itll have to be dyed twice, something about toner. After the first one itll be orange :E then itll be dyed again to be properly down. That in itself is damaging enough to my hair, more dying is overkill I think. Hehe weird sentence.
