is Bloodlines any good? i read a few reviews that said it was only OK but wutz ur guys opinions?

Personally I think at the core Bloodlines is a damn fine game, but the lag and loading times can really kill the mood. I'd say it's worth the buy in the long run, but it'd be really nice if we could get a patch to fix the lag and load problems.

I was also looking into buying bloodlines, ive heard that its not very linier game play which is cool, and what beats killing vamires with handguns? but like James above said I heard from a friend that it has some problems with running right. So untill I hear something about a patch that fixes this stuff I think Im just gunna sit on the fence for this game.

well i have played and completed several of the endings and i would say its a rather good game however they need to fix all these bugs before it will really shine.

Load times weren't a problem for me, what is annoying is that it runs terribly, just think 1/3 of how well HL2 runs. Then add some bugs where it crashes, then add some cutscenes in which players float, clothes disappear, sounds don't match action and you have vampires. A lot of dialogue is pointless, a lot of areas have nothing in them to see apart from the specific quest, combat is quite bad and it's worse with it running so poorly. But if you did like Deus Ex then this is the game to check out.

i read in CD-Action(polish and the original version) that "runs on the source engine and works like on the beta of it :/"

I playted ten minutes, and I felt extremely ripped off. It's obviously not finished and unoptimised, thus very, very buggy. Which is a shame, because there's a damn fine game underneath.

Thnat's exactly what I thought when playing it. It feels like a beta version.

I'm past the halfway mark (in Chinatown), and despite the bugs and flaws I can still whole-heartedly recommend this game to all and sundry. The first half of the game IMO is more fulfilling than Half-Life 2. The plot is immense, the characters are very realistic and believable, the graphics are good for an RPG and for a game of this scale - together all these thing bring a really immersive environment. With 60 hours of play, the 6 or so endings, 7 clans and so on, there is far more replay value than HL2 too. The patches for the game are now appearing too - now on 1.2, while not yet tackling any of the source engine problems i'm sure it will be addressed in time. But the most important aspects to consider are this IMHO - the first half of this game is untouchable by anything this year, it has the best level of any game this year (haunted mansion - though the HL2 DOG bit is great too),and the best characters (Jeanette and VV - again Alyx is very real too, but nowhere near as sexy).

just bought it a couple of days ago. I havnt actually got into any serious gameplay. im only about 45minutes in. But from what i have experinced... its one damn fine game.

PEACE

mike

arite, so ill probly get it when all the neccessary patches come out.

It still pisses me off though that developers don't fix their games up before shipping them just for the sake of immediate sales.

hasn't the latest patch fixed that yet?

I just finished killing the Sabbat leader, and I have to say I'm addicted to this game. I can't see where all these bugs are supposed to be, because I can't seeem to find any. The game has only crashed once on me, and load times are shorter than the ones in HL2. I don't see how any of you can say the combat sucks, it's just so satisfying to hit a guy 3 times with a katana and then he goes flying. Guns seem to be a bit underpowered, but that's maybe because my Firearms skill is at 3, while my Melee skill is at 10. Also, the flamethrower beats anything in about 3 seconds, even the bosses. I killed the Sabbat leader by just roasting him for 3 seconds. So I would recommend this game to anyone that likes RPGs, it's definately one of the best games of the year. I've had more fun with this than with Doom 3 or FarCry.

I'm probably one of the only people that will say this but I think it is better than Half-Life 2 itself. (Yes you heard me right.) For all the subtle problems that it has I don't think I've played a game as immersive as this one. (And talking to the characters is a delight in itself because of the lip sync and facial expressions. The look on their face when they realise your Malkavian is just priceless!)

And in my opinion, the bugs still do not come in the way of a class game.

I'll have to agree with Venmoch, I've been playing it for the last week, and it hasn't gotten boring. Malkavians are really funny! The framerate problems are alright, as I only get a low framerate in Masquerade areas. As long as I don't get a low framerate in Combat areas, I'm ok with it. Santa Monica seems to be the place where the framerate drops the most, Downtown, Hollywood and Chinatown are all much better.

I just bought this game yesterday. And It is pretty good. I've encountered a few frustrating bugs like getting stuck in doors and what not, but for the most part it's an excellent game.

bloodlines is awesome but i wish they went through with a multiplayer mode.

Wow, better than HL2? ill hafta check it out. Is the framerate thing a problem on all comps or just low-end ones? cuz im gettin a new alienware laptop for my b-day and it shuldnt have too much of a problem.

i agree with what nutcracker said on page 1,if you have a decent system load times aren't a prob and the actual missions should play fine, its just the hubs that run very badly but once you get into it it can be very addictive, you can do missions when you like aswell, its not 'do this now and you wont get a new mission till its done',you always have a few missions to choose from,i just got it 4 xmas and am enjoying it alot particurly trying to find out what happened to the girlfriend of that guy on the beach, just discovered her diary in her car, spooky stuff

animations and graphics suck, sounds are horrible and low quality (especially ambience)

tedious gameplay

otherwise its OK ?

Hahaha, my Malkavian had a conversation with a stopsign (this isn't a bug).

I've seen bloodlines in the shops down to 20 quid and down to 10 online. I think its worth a tenner and i might pick it up. (yes i did warez it). I'm abit skint atm though, i'll save up, i think its worth it for the game itself... i just hope they fix the bugs :(

Vampire: bloodlines is a very good game- worthy of a very high score. Thyat is, it would be if the framerate wasn't crappy, there weren't any of the amazingly annoying bugs and the story didn't just peter out tawards the end and finish with huge, boring battles. There are many redeeming features though, such as the wonderful facial animations and the complex character development. The game looks great, too- but not HL2 standard. But it's hard not to notice the games obvious flaws.

for £10 it's a bargain though- get it NOW :p

It's available in the Game post-chrimbo sale at the moment for £9.98.

http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=10341&mid=321207

Listed as out of stock at the moment, but you can probably pick one up in store. Hell, for less than £10, can it really be that bad?

<curses> I should have read the 2nd page before I wrote this and reposted info </curses>

If you can get it cheap its worth it, but if you see it for £30 in the shops, you could well be disapointed. It's such a great game, it'd be cool if a mod team released an unofficla patch for it to fix it, but it's just not going to happen :(

I brought it for £30 at one of the Portsmouth Game shops.

Worth every penny. Its probably the only game thats made me stay up till 4 in the morning when I have a lecture at 9 the next day.....

Ahem.

And there is an Unofficial Patch floating around somewhere.

Ah ha, well.. the bugs make it less playable for me, so i guess its up to you to play on through them or not. :rolling:

lol. such is the way of the rpg
:bounce:

LOL, better than HL2, i highly doubt that...wait...do you mean that it's better because it plays better or that it's more fun..not that it matters becasue hl2 beats it in both cases :p
I've heard that the combat sucks, and that it is very buggy, stealth also can screw up scripted events, making it difficult to continue playing the game. The storyline is supposed to be good though, but many have said that overall, it's just no worth your money.

i dont see anything wrong with the combat system , some people said the guns fight sucks ( you cant aim blah blah blah ) . Its an RPG game you need to lvl up to get a better aim \ damage. about the story line i think it rox ! the dialogs are very well made. I dont see why people compere HL2 to Bloodlines. they are diffrent , HL2 is an Action FPS, Bloodlines is RPG FPS. they both fun , both worth your money :p

Thnat's exactly what I thought when playing it. It feels like a beta version.

The performance problems show up mostly on computers without the patch and without a lot of RAM. My game only crashed once and in the crash log it showed that the game was taking up more and more system memory as I played, a clear memory leak problem. This was during an extended playing session before the patch was released.

After installing the patch I noticed two things, the first is that I didn't encounter a single crash even when playing for hours on end, so i think the memory leak problem was sorted out, the second is that in the opening cinematic (for the American version) it no longer showed the beheading, what's up with that?

In regards to your "beta" comment, that is almost precisely what this is. The reason hl2 looks so much better is that Valve has been optimizing the engine over the past year since they licensed it to Troika, so this game simply runs on a less developed version of source.

About the game, if you have a decent computer do whatever you can to buy it, as, in my opinion, it is the best game of the year.

Both.

And I found it much more fun than HL2. Immersion is a very very important thing.

the performance on good comps(i have a 3.2ghz p4,1gb ddr2 ram(533mhz) and a 256mb x800xt)is totally inexscusable and just comes across as lazy developers, the story is gr8 but the constant bugs, glitches,MEMORY LEAKS FFS!! is just terrible,i mean did they even test it and on what super computer was it,stuff like that bring it down from being an AAA title

both games are great you can't compare them (so what that they use the same engine)

half life 2 is great fun if you want a quik game but bloodlines is great if you have a few hours or better a day :)

but thats sometimes a problem lol you have to have loads of spare time to realy get into a great rpg as this

(oh and on the frame problem my game had it 2 but got a clean instal of windows and now it runs smooth as a baby's butt lol)

You can't diss Bloodlines because it doesn't look as good as hl2. It's using a borrowed engine, it "can't" look that good. The developers decided to go for the experience rather than the visuals. People should know that Vampire used to be a pen-and-paper rpg by White Wolf. It was all about dialogue, roleplaying, and immersion.
Troika, the developer, has a record of making sweet rpgs. The game has its small share of bugs as far as character models and scripted events go, but they're being worked on. Just because you think awesome visuals are what it's all about doesn't mean you have to put down the game.
As for the performance problems, I'm running AA with full details on 1gb ram and a Radeon 8500(thats right), and I havent had a single problem with crashing or slowdown. Loading times are VERY fast, so the problem is with your hardware, not Bloodlines.
If you want a really immersive and fun roleplaying game, by all means buy bloodlines - I highly recommend it.

I concluded after getting to Hollywood that Bloodlines is a tasteless wreck that cannot be redeemed. Even forgetting about the horrible gameplay and graphics for a second ...

Bloodlines is so tasteless. It makes people so ugly, I mean their character, repulsive personalities. Not one likeable figure (at least up to Hollywood).

Do goth types really see the world through such emotionally ravaged glasses? Are they so abused and broken they cannot see anything good, noble, virtuous, heroic in anyone? It is as though their misanthropy ballooned into a full-out fantasy about no longer being human but predating on them.

Can anyone explain to me why they like this kind of thing? And don't say it's "realistic" because a hi-res photograph of puke may also be realistic but I don't want to look at it.

Cause your a vampire, you play through an immersive story line of the vampire dark world, you have super magical powers like exploding people, you can get swords and shotguns, you can suck peoples bloods, it uses source, its a pretty damn good rpg, and the combate is pretty fun once you get used to it.
oh yah and everywhere you go there are half naked super hottie vampire chicks!...
