Anybody watch blu-ray movies? If so, you probably know each movie can visually look amazing to mediocre dvd quality. So what are the best looking blu-ray movies have you seen? I haven't seen too many, but I like the video quality of Blade Runner and the BBC's Planet Earth series.

I've seen Casino Royal on blu-ray and it was so beautiful. The seas and the fire and the greenery, extremely impressive. Although ?20 blu-ray discs are a little steep still.

Oh blahblahblah, why do you visit so infrequently, I do miss you so :(

wife, kid, job in no particular order.

Avoid Stargate, the transfer was horrible.

I dont have a bluray player, but I download movies in HD and they are indeed sex. I buy *most* of them on dvd, I just download them again since, while they look great, they're not worth the cost of a player + the ridiculous price of the disks.

Gladiator in 720p is definitely my favorite HD movie. I mean, look at this... it just cant be beat.

pixar stuff would be a good purchase

I'll stick with bargain bin, overprinted $3-$5 DVD's for now

how exactly do you download HD Movies?

Same way you download normal movies. They just take longer.

The Matrix and the Fifth Element are pretty sexy in high def.

Is there really a huge visual difference between normal DVD quality and blu-ray quality?

See for yourself

Page 2 also shows quite a few other comparisons but keep in mind those resolutions were downsized for comparisons sake, especially the hi-def ones.

Zodiac - IMO one of the best looking so far.

Taken myself, beware though it's 1080p.

I always look up the review of the blu-ray movie to see about picture quality over DVD. For an older movie done on flim, if they did a remaster that is a different source than the DVD then thats awesome. If it's the same then meh. Sometimes it can look worse since the grain and stuff would look more noticeable in HD. Of course the newer stuff done with a digital cam will look good.

Got stargate and the 5th element on Blu-ray from Amazon when they had a good sale. Normally they are at a low price too, for blu anyway, but the sale made it a no brainer.
I either pick up the $5 dvd or the blu version. I've avoided the $10-15 DVDs and $25-35 blu-ray disks.

I found a pretty good place for blu-ray movies. Checkout is through Amazon I believe but it's blu-rayboxsets.com and prices are really low on a lot of movies. They seem to discount them more than Amazon after they have been on the market for a bit.

*Sigh* I would really like to be watching HD on BR but there just isn't enough things released for Australia that I want yet to justify the cost.

Awesome, thanks for that :D

Those comparisons really show the difference well.

28 Days/Weeks are very poor.

Apocalypto, Casino Royale, PotC, Pixar all look lovely. Also, Mad Max 2, to my total surprise, is gorgeous.

This is where I tend to go for video and audio quality reviews http://www.highdefdigest.com/

The best quality blu ray i got has to be hands down Blue Planet. I thought I was buying Planet Earth, but that's entirely different.
