blue dotted line driving me nuts

Sometimes when I try and resize a rectangular prism it will move a blue dotted line instead, like it is trying to select something. It takes me like 20 tries to get ot of this mode. It drives me nuts . Any ideas?

Also, when I try and move entities, sometimes I move the visibility bubble instead. And when I un-do it it does not always fix it. How can I re-set it once I have messed one up. I like my objects to be visible everywhere. Thanks a million.

Visibility bubble problem:

View -> uncheck 'Show Helpers'

For the blue rectangle, turn on auto-selection, it's the blue rectangle button next to the texture lock button on the top menu.

That should do it.
