im using 3d studio 5 and the boolean seems abit pants some times.. most of the time it doesnt cut the shape of of the object. it eather just cuts a hole of the shape.. or just gets the out line of the shape on the polles.. eather way its not diging the shape out of object A.. is it me?? max 5?? ne tips to make it work every time

as a general rule you'll want to avoid using booleans as they screw up your mesh. not just with all the extra edges which are easy to clean but the can make things really screwy. there isn't any shape made by boolean that can't be done without them. If that makes any sense?

hehe yea thanx :D

yea but some times you wanna cut a hole through a square or somthing and it seems the easyst way

it's a hell of a lot easier in the to use the boolean but like most things it end up making life 10 times harder at the end. just get used to using the polygon "create" and the edge "cut" tools. it will make unwrapping the UVW so much easier.

*spell checker for forums would be brilliant

Booleans aren't all that bad as long as you know how to clean up your mesh afterwards. It just takes some welding, cleaning up, and edge turning, and all will be well. However, I am not advocating the use of booleans. Personally, I like to do all of my mesh building by hand, so I try to stay away from helper tools. It's all personal choice though, and booleans are an effective way to get the shape you want. Just learn how to use them properly and you won't have any problems.
