Last night I started playing through HL2 again & I've been at it for a couple of hours today. That's how bored I am! Anyway, I noticed a funny thing that I'd not seen before. It happended during the dual with the gunship at the end of Water Hazard. I was shooting at the gunship when suddenly the Combine pilot fell from the craft! Obviously the gunship continued it's assault until I had dispatched of it. But afterwards I found the dead Combine soldier floating in the water & took a screen shot. Has anyone else had this happen?

ya i had the happen my first playthrough it was a really nice touch, and for the record its a chopper not a gunship

Yeah you're not the first, happened twice with me.

It happened to me once. Did you go see the All-Knowing Vortigaunt right after the battle?

I've visited that Vortigaunt before. Completely forgot about him this time.

It's weird playing through the game again. I remember the bits I liked the first time. They don't seem so special now but they're still cool. I still feel frustrated that you can't explore parts of the map more. The maps feel very on rails. I keep wanting to explore places I can see but can't get to. It's frustrating because there's something about HL (always has been) that makes you want to explore every nook & cranny.

I get that feeling too. Like I want to explore, but the game is too linear for much of it. I think Episode Two will be a bit better in that regard, though.

I've never had that done. Well, I've never driven past and seen a floating combine.

I never had that happen too.

Now im playing through again but this time i cheated and got supergravity gun in the begining of the game and tryin to use it as my primary weapon. Its FUN!!. U dont have to use magnite crane to get ur buggy up.

I had the chopter stay on it's pad and not lift off once.. couldn't destroy it either.

Hard to say. It looks like most of it takes place outdoors, which means either they'll be relatively open or annoyingly hedged-in areas.

Well, there are some nice areas in HL2 that do allow you to explore somewhat. The best examples I can think of now are in Highway 17 or Sandtraps. There were a bunch of combine occupied houses that you couldve sped right past, but a bunch had weapons and supplies, and one came with some nasty rollermines.

well on sandtraps all i can think was to not to step on the sand.

The whole sequence around the dam in one of the best in the Half-Life series, IMO. It's so richly detailed and features some great vistas. Not until playing through it for the third or fourth time did I chance to look back after hitting that jump over the wall of the dam to see the massive distance I had just fallen.

If you scroll down page 6 of this old thread, you can see some screenies I took a while back of the guy actually falling out of the chopper:

I especially like this one:

I read in a review combine have shielded off the exit areas.

I did after i saw it on youtube

also, that has happened to me aswell. but maybe there were more than one combine in the chopper

If you play your cards right you can even see him bail out as it crashes. Which is awesome.

He pops out just before it goes on its super bombing-run IIRC. Maybe after that it goes on auto-pilot? :P

Never seen the chopper pilot before, didn't even know it was possible. I'll try to do it next time I play that part.

till today, i am still yet to visit him..

It's kinda hard to get into the pipe, and there's something very toxic in it, so I just usually bring up noclip and godmode before I go in there. There's a ton of health and batteries in there, too.

Wasnt hard for me, but that didnt tell me very much when i got up there to see

What the hell?

That's supposed to be a co-pilot or more suitably, the gunner 'bailing' out, not the pilot specifically. The helicopter has a crew of two and it doesn't pilot itself.
Plus it's not 'bailing out' - its supposed to be a dead combine 'pilot' being blown-out of the chopper (as a sign that you're kicking the chopper's ass).

According to the code, it always happens and also after a certain amount of damage has been taken.

I first saw him after driving by and thinking, "who piloted that thing?" I cruised through the wreckage until I flipped over his body. I hadnt seen Overwatch before, so I was pretty confused.
