Before anyone flames me, i just want to know if this is happening to everyone. If i load a map with about 10 bots my fps averages out at about 20...it makes an offline game seem laggier than anything i've played online....this takes place over several maps that i have played. Would appreciate any feedback.

ps. love de_tides, good work valve and turtelrock :D

In online games, all your CPU does, as far as other players go, is determine the model/hitbox trajectories, checking if you've collided with them, and registering whether or not their attacks have hit you.

However, when you use bots, your CPU has to calculate the perceptions and decision-making process of every single bot for a large number of times every single second. That is, checking if you're visible, if any bot is visible to any other bot, whether to coordinate a rush, snipe, camp, retreat or push forwards, reload, switch weapons, throw a grenade, plant the bomb... You get the point.

So when you use bots, you don't get any network lag, but you tend to get a lot of "game lag" which is just as bad, and happens with a fewer number of players than network lag.

Yea, i get the same thing -_- i go down to 10 fps even

However, its entirely worth it.
Bots > Real people.

luckly the CPU updates balance this out for me so i get like 30 FPS with 31 bots on my normal video settings and that's just when i am looking at them all. Boy i love my computer

BAH i'm getting low fps 2 and i have a pentium 4....this can't be normal

i turned shadows off. this makes a little difference ( i don't really notice the shadows neway)

How many bots you using rogue ? And at what level ? I imagine the higher the level you set them at the more CPU time they may use, although i don't know this for sure. I haven't tried it yet, sat at work at the moment !

Also, if you haven't already it maybe worth turning down model detail so the other players are less detailed, therefore when they are on the screen they are using up less graphics power as well. Just a thought

I have a AMD Barton 2800+ OCd to 3000+.
No problems with 20 bots here....
