Yep, you guessed it, Left 4 Dead news again! This time, with a real treat - this week's Game Trailers TV will feature a first-ever look at the Zombie Mode in Left 4 Dead - yes you read that right, that feature wasn't cut and you will be able to taste some delicious human survivors in the upcoming co-op game.

I swear I've seen footage from the zombies perspective before. Cool all the same, mind.

EDIT: By Zombie Mode I'm presuming we mean something else other than what I thought. A few Youtube videos show gameplay from zombie perspectives so it's an error on my part here. I've never heard of Zombie Mode, but cool.

They mean the Versus mode, rather than the 5 map campaigns, you have single maps, the humans still have to face Ai horde, but 4 player boss zombies aim to stop them from reaching the exit, the footage that exists is from a long time ago, alot has changed since then.

Zombie mode is where players will get to play as the zombie bosses against the survivors. I believe it will only be restricted to the boomer / smoker / hunter / tank, but possibly the standard hoard too. You'll basically get the ability to hide somewhere and pounce on the survivors using each of the zombies special abilities. (e.g. Smoker's tongue, boomer vomit etc). Valve have hardly shown a single second of this gameplay yet. It's part of 3 game modes we know about, there will be YOU + AI = zombie AI, YOU + 3 CO-OP others = zombie AI or YOU + 3 CO-OP = zombie ai and human zombie bosses. So you'll get a choice.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this at last, I've got no idea what to expect, I'm sure it will be different from how Natural Selection does it, but I'm not sure how.
 
If I recall correctly, when you play on the Zombie side you choose which Boss zombie you want to play as, and whenever said Boss isn't around you play as a regular zombie.

I got fed up with his dumbassery and put him on my ignore list, but then people keep quoting him.

Almost right.

You always play as a boss zombie, but the tank is unavailable (so you can choose boomer, smoker, hunter). When the tank is available, one of the boss zombie players will be able to choose if they want to play as him (since he's so powerful). You won't be able to play as the witch.

Unless that's changed since I've last seen.
 
I wonder how they have sorted out the first person view as a boss infected, Looking forward to seeing that.

I'm unsure on that too, I mean the tank and boomer and much bigger than the Smoker for example, so I guess we'll have all sorts of POV. Also, will we see hands or tongues etc in first person?
 
Perhaps the smoker's tongue will work in a similar way to the barnacle weapon from OP4. That was such a random weapon, albeit a very bugged one, but it was fairly cool considering the HL1 engine.
 
This has really been a groundbreaking week for L4D! :D

The French game convention will probably have the general public play the Infected. There are some videos of the Infected out there, but it's very crude and WIP. The L4D411 admins got to play Infected back in the day: http://www.left4dead411.com/left-4-dead-preview-pg10

Now everything we have seen/heard probably has gone under radical changes so keep that in mind. Think I started the whole Infected side getting cut rumor. I said once in the L4D411 forums that Valve might say the Infected side was a great idea, but playability wasn't fun. It will may be dropped just like the Hydra in HL2 because it just won't work out. So from then on people took my post as a true statement or something. :dozey: In fact I made the statement in April (lol, Summer):
Boss Infected have been a major factor in holding the game back. Infected gameplay is critical to this game and to make it frustrating to play, then you get frustrated people and it makes it too easy for the Survivors. If they did indeed find whats best for the class though, they are moving just fine to that late Summer release then.

No doubt it has been one of the biggest pains to make for L4D, but no one can contest as to how awesome it will be! :D

Nice find! Thinking about it now, they probably gave John a call seeing as how big a success his song was with Portal. Gained a lot of new fans and probably had fun working with Valve. Maybe he did a theme song for L4D as well? He was at PAX this year:

that GTTV link doesn't seem to work for me, it just keeps playing ads for their show over and over, and there is no left for dead footage
 
Watched the video. It doesn't really show very much gameplay footage, or at least the footage doesn't look much different from the old stuff. Still, from the small snippets you get you can see it's going to be a lot of fun playing as the infected.
