He's definitely dead if for no other reason than his voice actor passed away last year.

His appearance on the screen in EP2 is a suggestion that he was the person who objected to the g-man taking Alyx as a recruit during the Black Mesa Incident.

He may make more Episode 2 like appearances to help further explain his role in all this, but as riomhaire said his VA is deceased. If he was supposed to appear directly in Ep3, it would've been written out as of last year.

I think it's certain that his human body / form is dead, but I am less sure about his mind. I think it's possible we will see him as an advisor or in some other body as referenced briefly near the end of HL2 during his conversation with the advisor iirc. They certainly teased the possibility, and although I suspect that at this point Laidlaw has probably completely rewritten / changed his plans for Ep3 so it's anyone's guess.

Culp's death (RIP man, Breen's character and voiceacting were a really crucial part of the immersion/atmosphere in HL2) doesn't necessarily preclude this at all since Breen's voice was tied to his human body, which was almost certainly killed in the explosion. His new host body could have its own voice or if he speaks telepathically (like if he gets an advisor body) the voice could be anything.

Well, that's why I opened the topic myself. Breen spoke advisorul "host body" ... I was informed by the many friends and they said may have changed with a host body (the host organism but that is alien) ...

But over all we know that there isn't the slightest chanse of him surviving that portal collapse including his mind, I don't think that they can extract his mind from his body in the milliseconds before his demise.

That's a pretty heavy handed statement to make coming from someone who has no more information about the future of the HL storyline than the rest of us. How do you know it would be thematically pointless or that he has no more role to play in the future? You aren't Marc Laidlaw...

And if they did then why didn't they do that before.......... the combine in an INTERDIMENSIONAL EMPIRE not interplanetary or a intergalactic but an empire that spans multiple universes in size, i don't think they care that much for one gut who is just an.... I forget what Dr.Breen was oh well

Why would Breen be in the body of an Advisor? The Advisor's aren't sacks of flesh sitting around for you to be uploaded to; they're living beings. I don't know what purpose it would serve to have him hovering around in a host body. Breen was the bad guy in HL2, and he's an enemy you defeated. The Episodes are about a new enemy, something bigger, more dangerous than Breen - the Advisors. It doesn't make sense to make him one of them.

As far as the 'Brenn being in an Advisor's body" - The advisors simply do not need him anymore , he was the connection between them and the people .(convincing humans to do stuff for Advsiors and so on) Breen had certain privileges as the 'top' human so to say but that was all ... they simply have no reason to put him in advisor's body .

Full agreement with Samon. This is what I was talking about when I said it would be pointless. Breen is the previous villain and he was defeated. Bringing him back as an Advisor would only act to cheapen the roles of the Advisors themselves.
