Impact damage on the screen has just ruined it, there's a tiny patch that still displays properly. It shows cracks when turned on, but not on the front layer of the screen, and then lines of coloured pixels randomly from the centre of the cracks. Is it completely ****ed or is it fixable for less than the price of a new TV?

I did it, with a drumstick. Had it a while so I don't think there's any warranty left on it.

Replacment LCD screens are usually about 80% - 90% the cost of a new TV.

If the glass at the back is cracked then your screwed, is there any leakage, like black stuff around the cracks? Also where about did you hit the TV and how hard?.
But like WhiteZero said the most expensive component of the TV is the LCD panel, if that's broken then get a new TV, fixing it will cost you more.

As WhiteZero said, the screen is pretty much the complete cost of the TV. It won't be worth fixing so you'll either have to continue using it or get a new one.

If its tolerable, don't worry about it. If too annoying, the crack just sits there staring at you, or you put the thing out of commission; replacing it is the best option. Like others before me said; fixing LCD is just too impractical and will probably cost the same or more than the LCD itself.

Good Luck.

There is a tiny chunk still displaying the picture. I've ruined it. BALLS. Anyone know any good deals on HDTVs?

Any things I should look out for if I'm getting a new one? Is there a major improvement going up to 1080p other than for using it as a monitor for my PC? How important are contrast ratios?

Well, we were taught everything; from how to walk, talk and basically survive but, despite the fact of endless attempts; no one can teach us how not to **** up.
Shit happens but live goes on; unless its end of the road.

Get up, dust off, and go shop for a replacement.

Good Luck.

How'd you break it with a drumstick? And what kind of drumstick?

Hopefully it was one of the first two. It would be more hilarious.

I'm suing KFC for lack of a proper guide on eating their products.

Ebuyer seems to have some decent deals on, might look there. That's if I'm buying a new one right now.

Thanks for the link. How important are contrast ratios? There are some huge differences between brands.

Yes, **** you NIN. Lost control of the stick and it hit the TV

I'll be honest, I have no idea about that. Most of the jargon is well over my head. All I do is check it's HD ready, the size of the screen and make sure it's not some shitty amstrad or ferguson brand and compare prices.

The good thing about dd.co.uk is the interest free payments you can get. A ?600 TV paid off over 9 months isn't bad at all. I got me a 32" HD TV for about ?650 all paid off before the interest payments kicked in. Sweet.

Sorely tempted to go for a bigger one than I had. Still debating whether or not I need to replace it, got an older TV that I can use in the mean time but I miss the HD smoothness, and I'm moving in to a house in September for uni (back home for the summer right now) and it'll come in handy.

Some new NIN songs out today as DLC
