Brutal Legend finds publisher: EA...

Following months of uncertainty and rumors, Electronic Arts today announced its EA Partners label will publish Double Fine's third person action/adventure game Brutal Legend.

Well, EA is doing an awful lot to win back gamers' confidence and this is a HUGE step in the right direction. I have been excited for this one due to my love of all things metal and ex-LucasArts. :p
 
It's really weird, since UBI and Especially Activision have been getting worse, EA has been getting better.
But then again EA had a lot of safe and steady funds coming from it's sports franchises, they can afford some risk.
 
I agree, Ubisoft have been a shite recently (Assasins Creed, Prince of Persia)
 
I saw this on RPS. It's about god damn time. I want more Schaffer.
 
I'm glad it ended up on EA really.

Schaffer has been workin hard on this one and he deserves to finally have some real success. And i think EA's marketing could get them there. . .


. . . then again EA's marketing group but Boom Blocks into the grave. . .
 
Ubi's been a bit hit and miss lately, but they're still attempting to develop/publish original titles just like EA are, so I'm not sure why everyone's so down on them.

Anyway, good news. I don't really fawn over Schaffer games as much as everyone else, but this one looks pretty interesting.
 
Prince of Persia may be great, have been enjoying it for much longer then FC2 and AC and borden or frustration has not ye kicked in.

Despite the Brutal Legend publisher problems beginning months ago, the publisher hadn’t said anything with much substance about the matter until today. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has been speaking with Gamasutra about the cancelled games, and had this to say:

“With respect to the franchises that don’t have the potential to be exploited every year across every platform, with clear sequel potential that can meet our objectives of, over time, becoming $100 million-plus franchises, that’s a strategy that has worked very well for us. Our strategy has been to focus [...] on the products that have those attributes and characteristics that we know if we release today, we’ll be working on 10 years from now.”

So unless Activision Blizzard believes it can repeatedly milk the life out of the franchises it publishes, it’s not interested; while cash cows that’re guaranteed to succeed and spawn multiple sequels are great, anything that’s exceedingly creative and a retail risk isn’t likely to be picked up.

The downside to this approach is that you need something dazzlingly awesome and unique to have a cash cow in the first place. For how long does Activision Blizzard intend to keep dragging the same old franchises on?
 
Hoooooopefully Tim Schafer will be able to overpower the crap with his maniac sheer awesomeness.

I have a feeling I'm going to <3 Jack Black in this game. As long as they tone the "ye-heh-heah" back just a smidge.
