Im going to build a new machine.
Here is my plan

MSI - K7N2 Delta - L motherboard - $119

2- 256 DDR (dont know what kind yet) 2 of them for dual ddr - $116
estimated

3d card - i want the Ati Radeon 9800 pro, but its quite expensive, i would like something cheaper but :-( - - $306

AMD 2600, 2080Mhz / 333 fsb - $130

total is $671

what you think

Ok, change the CPU to a Barton 2500+. Now, instead of the MSI mobo, get an asus A7N8X Deluxe or an Abit NF7-S.

If your on a budget you could go with the Ordinary Asus A7N8X-X insted of Deluxe and like Igneri say.. Plz change to a 2500+ barton insted.. much better (if you want to overklock =)

i prolly wont overclock since i dont know how, and isnt taht a lower processor speed

The 2500+ barton will perform better then a 2600+ T-Bred. Just because it has a lower clock doesnt mean anything.

how much does it run, any reviews?

Igneri edit: Please dont double post, use the edit button next time.

forigve me but i dont know what twice the cache does :-P
ok.. how well can it overclock.
it doesnt look like the extra cache does much on gaming ends.

More cache is always better, no matter what. It OCs extremely well. Buy a good HSF, and you could hit 3200+ speeds(2.2ghz)

that doesnt seem to well.. 2.2 :-/ the TB can go up to like 2.4 or 2.3
also keep in mind that i want to run hl-2 at max... :-( oh yea the motherboard you suggested does it support 400fsb?

Doesnt seem to well? A 400mhz OC isnt good? Yeah that 2.4 is probably water cooling. Keep in mind you CAN run HL2 at max, and any other game. You could run it at max on a XP 2000+ or a 2.0 P4. Yes both the mobos i mentioned support 400FSB.

ok how much does that asus mobo run for, and what was wrong with the one i had :-P
what can you suggest for a good video card - to run half life 2 at max settings.

It goes for about $115, same for the NF7-S. I would reccommend the NF7-S over the A7N8X-DX, its more stable. Anything, from a 9500pro to a 9800 pro will run it fine.

i know nothing about abit , i usually tend to stick with asus or msi, but if you can convince me other wise :-P

thnx for replying to my questions :-P im a pain lol, but ok the 9800 pro is quite expensive, any other 3d cards support full Dx9?

sorry my bad.. i didnt know those also supported DX9

yep thats where im goin, but thnx, ok so whats this rev 2.0 w/ soundstorm
oh yea any of those mobos support Athlon 64's
i plan on getting one of thsoe in the late future.

Rev. 2.0 is more stable, more features including soundstorm audio. Soundstorm is considered by many better then something like an audigy 2. Newegg only sells Rev. 2.0.

check my edited post up there btw... and i am using my soundblaster live card 5.1 speakers, its all i need since i dont really care for anything else

Sounstorm will be much better. It doesnt matter cause soundstorm comes with it. No, none of the Nforce2 mobos can support the A64, as the A64 uses a different socket. By the time you want to upgeade something better will obviouslybe out.

shouldnt i just wait till the A64's come out , since they are coming out soon, new motherboards will be out then too.
on board audio.... i hate integrated sh1t.... if i wanted would i be able to use my sounblaster? annnnnnd. none of the abits at newegg support 400fsb
does it support dual ddr?

Yes, they do support 400FSB. Ive ordered mine there, it might still say rev. 1.2 specs but when you recieve it youll see.

Didnt you say you couldnt afford a 9800 pro? Well how do you expect to afford a A64 and a spankin new mobo? AND a good gfx card.

Also keep in mind 64-bit applications will not start popping up for quite a bit of time.

Pricegrabber also says it doenst, but im not very trustworthy no offense to you.. ok im assuming it supports dual ddr, what kind of ddr memory should i get , someone mentioned something named black something, and should i get more thant 512? mayber two 512's ?
and how long do you think 1.83mhz processor will last me

edit:my bad i just checked abits site, and its only on 2.0 sorry about that

Yes it supports Dual channel. I would reccommend at least 512mb of RAM. Preferably Kingston HyperX or Corsair XMS. At least PC3200. For the last time, the 1.83ghz has nothing to do with it. The 2500+ will last for a good 18-36 months.

that was just my way of asking how long the +2500 would last :-P

yes i have a 2500+ OC'd to a 3000+ its only at 2100Mhz but it competes with 3.2ghz P-IV on some levels. 512 ram is the least u should have, get a name brand, u dont want crappy or value ram. Abit is as popular as ASUS and MSI im amazed u havent heard of em. they are more for overclocking, and from wut Sgt says about em they're just as stable as my a7n8x-deluxe. my two recommedations(iv read many many reviews both professional and comsumers) are:
2500+
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe OR Abit NF7-S
2x256 3200 Corsair OR Kingston
9600 Pro OR if you have the money 9800 Pro

Owskie, just disable the integrated audio ;) It's really easy. BIOS > Disable Onboard Audio.

maybe he doesnt know much about soundstorm.
I know i dont lol :dork:

The perfect bugit system for HL2! all parts from LS.Micro.com
check it out!

i think he meant www.lsmicro.com

***Igneri edit: Take it easy and watch the language please.

www.newegg.com[/url] has better prices than lsmicro.com

im sorry :-(
The perfect bugit system for HL2
kinda threw me off
my bad, wasnt trying to be negative
but i thank you for the links

Careless of whether you're an enthusiast or just want a nice system to play HL2 on, I would recomend waiting at least until the 23rd (release date of AMD64). If you're an enthusiast, and seen the benchmarks, the 64 offers 10-20% increases over the best P4 in 32 bit mode. If not, the release of a new core will bump the prices of the XPs down by a reasonable margin. I would say go for the 2500+ with an nforce 2 mobo, and a 9600pro. a nice system which will last around 2 years - and wont set ya back the 3000 a top-of-the-line system will.

You can get a 3.2ghz, 1gb of RAM, 9800 pro, a nice case for about $1700. Top of the line is never $3000 unless you buy prebuilt or add a bunch of useless crap.
