Don't think this has been posted yet, but I thought it was pretty interesting take on the usual game politics news. A group of protestors called "Peaceaholics" recently gathered outside Rockstar Games to protest the upcoming release of Bully.

The video is funny for a number of reasons. The first is that the group protesting doesn't quite seem to be in the target demographic. Secondly their protesting chant is hilarious. Third, the idea that these people took time out of their day to protest something that they don't seem to know very much about according to the interview is pretty puzzling. I would like to know how this group got involved in the crusade...

"So what you think 'bout yo sellin' it online before it even eh eh it even has been uh uh rated by da FCC?"

Hell yeah! **** free speech!!

I should go join one of those protests and hold up a sign saying "**** free speech, and to hell with parental responsibility!!!!"

So basically, a group of ignorant and/or ill-informed people stood around and protested a game they know nothing about. Wow. Thank god for the first amendment.

Sounds good to me....COUNT ME IN!

I just recently found out the term "cracker" is the short form of "Whip cracker" in reference to slave owners. Up till then I was like "how is that an insult? I like ritz."

So you'd have the first amendment done away with because of this?

Wow, I didnt know that either. I always thought they were talking about... saltines or something. Since they are white in color.

I wonder if all the black people who call us that really know what it came from.

"A protester explains: "We think it’s very irresponsible for someone to put a game out like this... If you’re coming from where I come from in (Washington) DC, where children get killed in schools and everything, and see people get picked up off the ground with their brains in the street, then you know we’re not exploiting."

meh, if they spent more time killing people in video games theyd have less time to kill in irl :D

[edit] OFF ARR CHILENS BACKS!! OFF ARR CHILENS BACK! THEY JUS AS WORSE AS THE TURRORIS'!

The guy had a fair point - releasing a game online before it has been rated is harldy responsible.

Hardly, I love the First Amendment, I just hate when people protest things they don't really understand.

Still, you need a credit card to get it. Giving a kid a credit card is hardly being responsible. Besides, if the parents had a better relationship with their kids they wouldn;t have this problem. I respect my parents, therefore I do my best to not disappoint them.

Bully has been released online? Erm...when did I miss this?

Tbh all this R* malakey is basically a scapegoat because parents cba to look after their kids.

I agree. You can get debit cards pretty young, though.

I've no problem with violent games, but allowing the sale of a game like this before rating isn't the smartest move Rockstar have made.

It isn;t exactly up to Rockstar, retailers pre-sell games that aren;t rated all the time. I remember pre-ordering Rogue Spear soon after it was announced, and there certainly wasn;t a rating.

I'm sorry, but if you want to be taken seriously, don't protest singing ****ing Gwen Stefani.

(Parental responsibility, etc.)

For a debit card you generally need a parent to be a signee to the card as well. Hence the credit card policy still applies and parents are hence responsible.

How do they know how violent the game is? Have they played it?

Blaming Rockstar and/or the retailers for their kids buying games that might not be suitable online is stupid. Maybe they should exercise some parenting skills and attempt to find out what their kids are buying and playing.

there's no restrictions on purchasing r-rated or even x-rated material online. Any kid could buy whatever they wanted so long as they had a credit card.

why are there only black people there?

ah lemon chicken/spicy tuna you're so predictable. It's a youth-based group from a predominately black neighbourhood.

calling Rockstar worse than terrorists is just stupid.

It's BANANAS. B-A-N-A-N-A-S.

Ugh, I hate that song.

And isn't the whole concept of Bully about facing up to your aggressors?

Um... You have to be 18. I believe that is a restriction. It might not be enforced very well, but neither are the ESRB rating age restrictions.

no you dont have to be any age to purchase something off the net ..all you need is your parents credit card

The game's likely going to get a teen rating. There's no blood or ultraviolence. You can punch a little girl, but then you get sent to the principal's office. You can't sell drugs. You can't kill anyone. I don't even think there's going to be much language either. Melee weapons break after a few hits.

People really need to look into games before they protest it.

Well I was wondering.:p

ALso, I couldnt understand a word those kids where screaming? anyone know that they where saying?

I know for a fact that you have to be 18 to order x-rated material. It can't just be on somone's card who is 18.

That's what I was thinking as well. From what I've seen so far this doesn't seem likely to get an M rating. It might anyway because of all the publicity, or maybe they haven't shown off all of the game yet, but I haven't seen anything particularly objectionable. I mean the goal is to help the weak kids and defeat the bullies, doesn't seem that bad to me. Not to mention the gameplay structure/style seems pretty original and interesting.

I would like to say that these activists such as Jack Thompson would wind up with egg on their face and lose credibility if that turns out to be the case, but the truth is they will just pretend it never happened and no one with any pull will bother to call them on it.

Meh, same kind of numpties who make up MAG. Thus, they should be ignored until they go away.
