I know you are asking yourself how that could possibly happen.

WASHINGTON - As the war in Iraq drags on, President Bush's job approval and the public's confidence in the direction he's taking the nation are at their lowest levels since The Associated Press-Ipsos poll began in December 2003.

About one-third of adults, 35 percent, said they think the country is headed in the right direction, while 43 percent said they approve of the job being done by Bush. Just 41 percent say they support his handling of the war, also a low-water mark.

"There's a bad mood in the country, people are out of sorts," said presidential scholar and senior fellow at the Brookings Institution Charles Jones, who lives near Charlottesville, Va. "Iraq news is daily bad news. The election in Iraq helped some, and the formation of the government helped some, but dead bodies trump the more positive news."...

While Bush has gotten generally low scores for his handling of domestic issues for many months, most Americans have been supportive of his foreign policy. Not any more.

I just wish these people were smarter around election time.

It is also interesting to see that the Republican ran congress has a 31% approval rating which I don't think could go any lower. 2006 here we come.

So...what could happen if this keeps up? Keep in mind I'm from Canada so, I don't understand what could happen if this keeps up in the US. I mean..what could the American public do if things get really bad??

As sad as it sounds, we're generally too apathetic to do anything. Unless something extreme happens he will prolly just ride out his term.

What else will we want and do? We will of course want to practice religion in public school, and make abortion illegal. We will want to hunt down gays for no reason whatsoever besides blind homophobia and we will want to own weapons of ridiculous power to assert our stupid bloated egos. Go on, tell us. TELL US WHAT TO DO.

YOU MORON

 Right. Here we come indeed! With a wrinkled douchebag leading the way! Nothing will stop us now!
Were going to California and Texas and New York and were going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan and then were going to washington dc to take back the white house... YEAARRGHHH!! Democrats are always sooo optimistic.

Anyway. Nobody gives a shit about polls. I'll be as happy as the next guy when Bush is out... but I doubt the average American knows what the hell congress is up to. Truth is, the congress we have now is actually pretty good.

dude I h8 bush I was not mocking you people in the slightest it was just some black humour, start going on strikes and more demonstrations, get world attention on you.. I am all with you guys, get your country back.

But I am against practicing of homosexuality, however homosexuality is not the issue in your country, what I am worried about is that your civil liberties are being slowly slowly drained away with these new terrorism laws. First EDUCATE your people to know what rights you have being a U.S citizen, the government can't f***ck with a population that know their laws and rights inside out.

You're lucky... you have a term limit over there. In Australia, our PM has been in power for so many terms I've lost count.. 4 or 5 I think. Feels like a billion.

Well after we recover from the impending civil war we have world war 3 to deal with in 2015.

I'm pleased that Bush can't have another term, and having a term limit doesn't seem so bad so long as another candidate from the same party could step forward. Maybe then politics might move away from the candidates and toward the policies. That said, the UK system of MPs and a party leader is a bit different from the Mr. President system of other countries.

Probably because he is so good? Blair has been in power since 1997.

i never did trust these polls, and they were low when he got elected, but still, he got in, just goes to show these damn polls aren;t perfect

The polls say he is at an all time low, but every person I talk to face to face doesn't have a problem with him.

Those election polls were almost perfect, off by only about 1 percentage point. We can also talk about election irregulaties(where exit polls matched dead on on non evoting machines but were way off on the machines) but thats up for another topic.

No Limit, do you ever stop? You could pull a conspiracy theory out of anything if it went against Bush. Face it, the exit polls were dead wrong and Bush won. Thats it.

Well you, like me, live in Florida. That makes a difference. We're in a red state. Bush supporters are as common as mosquitoes where I live... and I have mild allergic reactions to both of them. :E

Also, the group of people you choose to interact with probably has something to do with your perceived universal support for Bush... not to mention that, if you are on his side, it's something you want to be true (which can influence your perceptions and memory).

Exit polls could be wrong anyway. If I voted for Bush, came out, and was then asked who did I vote for, do I have to say Bush? No. In fact, if I'm in a blue state, it'd probably be better to say no if I really did vote for Bush, because then Gays and Liberal Extremists would never leave you alone. But since Kerry lost, those Liberal Extremists got mad, and tried to get back by pulling out a bunch of conspiracy theories, which the FBI, CIA, ect., doesn't believe. So face it liberals, Bush is president, it is true, you lose. :)

hmmmm I wasnt aware that gays stalk polling booths waiting to harrass people to not vote for bush ...are they organised? do they carry signs? do they have snappy slogans? do they chant freedom songs?

they should just stamp your hand when you vote:

vote for bush: insane

vote for other guy: less insane

Actually, they do. I was down in San Pedro, California, people were stalking the booths, and demanded who you voted for. Mostly gays though. And they carried signs. Oops, thats right, they would never do that, because Democrats would never do anything horrible like that, right?

oohhh you were accosted by teh gheys!!! why didnt you just shoot them?

btw did it change your mind? I'm betting it didnt .....so what's the problem? you're not denying them the right to say what they want are you?

1. I didn't have gun.
2. Lets take a look back on my other posts, and see if my mind was changed around election time.
3. I never had a problem, I was explaining to you that the liberals got wrong exit polls, and started pulling conspiracy theories out of thier ass to make up for the fact that they lost.

wow you have an intense hatred of homosexuals ...you know what they say about people who unreasonably hate gays? ...just like that military guy in that movie American Beauty

so if you didnt change your mind, why do you care if they were protesting? they have the right ...oh and lets not get into why americans voted for bush ..I think it's painfully clear why they voted they way they did

You must not comprehend what I'm saying. Show me where I said "Gays are horrible, they need to die." Unreasonably hate? I don't hate them. If they want to go off and be gay, good for them. But when people try to force thier views or religions upon me, thats when I hate them. Just because I say "and Gays" in posts doesn't mean I hate them, stop twisting my words. And second, I don't care that they were protesting, they have every right in the world to protest. What I disliked was the fact that they had to keep pulling conspiracy theories out of thier ass to make up for the fact that thier big star candidate lost.

Approval ratings for all recent presidents that got reelected:

Truman, 1949: 57%.

Eisenhower, 1957: 65%.

Johnson, 1965: 69%.

Nixon, 1973: 57%.

Reagan, 1985: 56%.

Clinton, 1997: 59% .

Bush, 2005: 45% .

But nevermind that, explain this to me and I will never again mention this and admit I was wrong for even suggesting it:

You are living in a right wing delusion (or fantasy in a lot of the cases where right wingers come out of the closet). Can you please explain to me how gay people tried to force you to be gay? I'm all ears.

could have fooled me:

Dag said:
Talk to an Army Ranger. Then try and get him to talk to a gay person. Within thirty seconds, that Gay person would have his neck snapped.

Living right next to an air force base, and an Army Ranger camp, I think people can see why I don't like gay people

as long as they dont show up at exit polls or move too close to army barracks

Dag said:

so now you hate them again? how are gays trying to impose their views on you?

Dag said:

you just said you dont like them ...you also implied you hate them

who? the gays?

Again- I didn't say, Gays are horrible, they need to die. I said I dislike them because I grew up in an enviroment the doesn't tolerate bisexuality very well. Yet you seem to think that I dislike gays must mean "They are horrible, they need to die." I never implied they needed to die, or were horrible. I implied, that I myself did not like them. I never said they can't go and question people at the exit polls. I have no Idea where you got that. Again, I never said I hated them, I said when people force thier views upon me, I hate them. Have they forced thier views upon me? No. I said I hate the kind of people who force thier views upon others, I did not say I hate gays. I never implied that I hate them, thats just you twisting my words so that you can make it seem like I said the opposite.

I doubt Kerry's approval rating would have been all that great either, even if he somehow succeeded in getting all our troops home last year or this year(that, of course, would have been a whole other mess altogether).

The last few elections have left Americans with pretty slim pickins when it comes to choosing the next leader of the free world. Even for the past 30 years or so, those guys are the best we could do???

Am I the only one who feels that the two-party system is limiting America's ability to find and elect capable leaders? <--(perhaps a topic for another thread).

You grew up in an envorimoent that doesn't like gays? Oh okay, so you are part of the christian right. Let me ask you do you also dislike people that remarry (adultery in the bible) and think they are going to hell?

I never accused you of wanting them dead

I guess you have no will of your own ...I went to a catholic highschool ...doesnt mean I couldnt formulate my own opinions

so then why would you have even mention that they were at the exit polls? you implied they tried to change your mind (or anyone who was there) ..therefore by your own definition you hate them ...really, it isnt that hard to follow

btw good point no limit

LOL, I grew up it Poland which at the time was pretty much one huge 24/7 Catholic school with a lot harsher punishments. Yet, I never even heard of Christians being outraged with homosexuality until I came to this country. Something fishy about the right wing here, they love the topic of gays; maybe that is why such a large amount of the republican politicians are coming out of the closet. Becareful Dag, they might get you next. :dozey:

LOL! sounds like a movie slogan:

"They're here!, they're queer! You might be next ...vote republican in 08"

somewhere somehow methinks there's a bullet with No limit's name on it ...probably being inserted into a magazine by someone know in gaming circles as Dag

dont worry mon ami, I'll jump in front of the bullet to save you ...the truth must GO on :)

Come on, it's obvious that the electronic voting machines have become sentient and are altering the votes to fit their desired outcome in order to acheive world domination. I mean, how else would you explain it?

I dont know, but I'd love an explanation to the charts I posted.

Hey man..you think that's bad..In Canada our last prime minister was in power for 10 years..10 years. He wasted 10 years of my life. :x

So..back on topic. People will have to just wait until the end of the term until they can (hopefully) vote bush out. But I have a feeling that bush will be president for a very long, long, long, long time. He probably will be elected next term again. I would not be surpised. Approval rating or not, I feel he will be elected again. I'm from Canada so, I don't really care too much if he gets elected again.
