Hi i dont know anything about mp3 players, never had one. But ive decided to buy one this week, been looking much at Iriver IFP-795 512MB anyone know if its really good or is there a better with the same price :rolling:

dont get an mp3 player. become a player, get a pimp suit and some ho's. you know it dawg.

how much are you willing to spend

hehe, thanks oldagerocker ;)

the latter one. the other one is forbidden, way too pimpish for the likes of me.

btw Evil milk, your avatar pwns.

Garfield don't get a mp3 player get .........a mp3 cd player :D store all your mp3s on a cd. A normal cd player only plays cds with WAV files on them or something like that so can only have say 15 songs on but I managed to stick 200 songs on my cd player :D cost me £30 im very happy with it.

Things to consider if you want to go about this properly:

How much music you want to be able to carry around with you, and how often you'd be happy with changing the music (ie plugging in, removing music and putting new stuff on there)
What extra features would you want - radio, voice recording, etc
Do you want to be able to play paid-for, copy-protected music downloads

512 MB isn't much, you'd only be able to keep about 130 songs on there... but that might be enough for all I know..

Read my post in Adrien C's "Going to buy an MP3 player thread." You can get a very good MP3 player 4-5 GB for $150-180. It is definetly worth the extra cash.

will this mp3 player be used to pick up chicks in America?

A 512MB player is useless in my opinion. Anything smaller than Apple's 4GB isn't worth getting.

pfff thats why you transfer more music from the pc. 800mb cds do me fine :D

Edit - Seriously tho, don't get an mp3 player. They're useless and money is better spent on pornography.

Sorry Tony but it's hardly convenient to burn a new CD every time you want to take some new mp3s out with you, is it? Also you'd need to carry about 25 cds with you if you wanted the equivalent "capacity" to a standard 20-GB hardisk player...

you don't spend money on pr0n noob.

edit- the thing is your not going to listen to every track on the playlist so one cd can last several days.

512 mb is enough for me, i dont listen to that many songs so its good ;)

I just write the songs on paper and sing them myself.

It's not as good but at least I share the music with those around me.

The thing to consider about getting an mp3 player is that Apple's Ipod is worth £150, with an extra £100 added on for style. If you want a nice, simple, functional, cheap mp3 player that works without all the stigma and namebrand and fashion crap connected to it, avoid Apple.

I have a Creative Zen Jukebox 20gb, exactly the same as an Ipod 20gb, only it was £50 cheaper at the time.

MP3 players are not EXTREME. Therefore, I do not suggest owning one.

Apple has the prettiest player.

I have an Iriver which costs about the same as the standard IPod (Maybe a lil more...) yet it displays pictures and more importantly displays videos.

It also acts as a plug and play hard disk, has radio, a built in microphone, the battery lasts ages and is very very reliable. :D

I don't care for the extra features, I like my pretty iPod mini ;)

This stops now, okay? Thanks.

iRivers are simply the way to go. I wouldn't consider anything else after my H-120 - the best sound quality, longer battery life, a fantastic LCD remote... iPods are for being trendy, these are for quality.

I would have to agree with the Irivers, never used one, but everyone i have heard from states that it is simply the best, better then all the rest.

I just received my Creative Zen Touch from Amazon yesterday. It's awesome so far. 20Gb capacity, 24 hour battery life (for continuous play of 128kbps mp3's, so shorter if they're encoded higher, like mine are). The only bad thing about it, ironically, is the whole gimmick it sells itself on - the touchstrip interface. Fiddly and pointless IMO, but completely insignificant because I bought this thing for capacity and battery life. Those are the 2 most important things you want to consider, I reckon.

Like someone else said, I really do think a 512Mb player is useless. To me the whole idea of having an mp3 player is having an obscene amount of music at your fingertips, so I can't see the point of something with such a small capacity. But if you're sure, then... *shrug*

Fair enough...

I'll just go watch the simpsons or episode 3 on my iriver then... :p

im buying an iriver:P the 5 gb one i tihnk because it looks a lil nicer and is smaller, only i have 8.5 gigs of music from my cd collection so i think i have a lil problem

I would definetly have bought a regular iPod if they still sold the 10 GB models.. My friend has one and it is perfect. The size itself is too big.. But my 5 GB Creative Zen Micro is easily the best MP3 player out there. Only reason why I say this is because it sounds the best out of iRiver and iPod. Creative is a sound company pretty much.. The whole company focuses on audio which means anything that comes from that company has to sound good. It is easy enough to manuever with. The menus are crisp and clear. Pretty much the same setup as an iPod but a lot better. :) Plus, these Micro's are easily the best looking MP3 player IMO. I mean it comes in at least 10 different amazing colours and with the addition of that blue backlight, it makes it look awesome.. Creative is the only way to go.

:O

But I can play videos... whole films!!!

And the sound quality of the iRivers is excelent too! Easily good enough!

Especially if you invest in some decent earphones. :)

Yeah ok well i'd still recommend the mp3 cd player ;) it's cheap and you can take extra cds with you if you want.

Only problem I personally have with that is the size of CDs. Really wish minidiscs took off better...I'm too lazy to rip my CDs to my computer.

I bought a Creative Zen 30GB model ages ago. It was half the price of the 10GB iPod.

I don't know why so many people buy iPods.

"Bahhhhhhhhh, I'm a sheep, bahhhhhhhhhhh, bahhhhhhh."

I was also going to mention iRiver's are another option, but surprisingly enough I had to restart my computer cause of my terrible wireless internet.. :(

Apple is an overpricey, giant whore.. I honestly cannot stand them. Their products are good, but for the money they ask I can get something better about 2 times.. Lets say the iPod's.. Well, I got my Micro for $20 less than the iPod Mini.. Also, The 20-30 GB models are overpriced like wow.. I mean their iPod Photo is $300+.. I can get the iRiver H10 for ~$200, and it plays videos and photos, but is almost the size of the regular iPod.. Too thick for my taste..

Simple..
Trend Whores = Apple iPods
Going for pure sound = Creative
Going for the ability to play videos and look at pictures = iRiver..

I bought an iPod in Nov 2003, aaaand... it was cool at first, and if I wasn't such a geek I woulda stuck with it. But as I am, wanted something with more features, something more technically fulfilled, something I could tinker with, something a bit more flexible. So the following February, I sold it and bought an iRiver H120 (iHP-120)... At first I loved the extra features, decent battery life, and fuller sound quality. I was a bit pissed off at the extra hassle for getting music onto the player (compared to iPod) and the useless database browsing, but I grew to like the tinkerability.

In the last few weeks, the first useable versions of the non-official, open-source firmware, Rockbox, have been released. It improves upon the final version of the official iRiver firmware, vastly.
Boots in about 5 seconds. Customisable display. Plays Gameboy ROMs. Cross-fading of tracks. Gapless playback (the Rio Karma is the only other player that does this, AFAIK), on-the-go playlist-making, and hopefully radio recording. It's bloody fantastic, and makes me glad that I bought this little beauty.

I bought the Rio Carbon MP3 player I think about 2 months ago, it's a 5 GB hard drive, so I think it can hold around 2,500 songs...It said how many on the box, but I don't have that anymore...so anyway...
