Ok here is a few things I threw together for a new workstation I am going to build. The main programs I will use will be for 2d related art. Let me know what you think is right and wrong.

It's not a Macintosh!

Oh wait - I guess that doesn't matter. I think you'll do fine with that. You could do better, I'm sure, but it'll probably run your software fine. What software are you planning on using? Slipstream, for example, may take more than a few seconds to convert something on your workstation.

That is fine and will perform well. Although it isn't the best performance for the money in what you want to do. I'd get a low end Dual Core (Intel or AMD) or a P4 with HT. Would be best for programs like photoshop.

I glad you brought that up because I was thinking of going the dual core route. Which AMD dual core would you recommend?

amd has low end dual core? the lowest i can think of is the 4400 and i thought p4 were better for lots of proccesses

I think the lowest dual core AMD chip is teh 4200+ which has the 2 cores running at 2.2ghz with 512k L2 cache

Yeah, so far AMD's lowest Dual Core part is the X2 4200+.
The X2 3800+ is coming but I wouldn't count on it any time soon. Probably closer to fall.

Hmm a little more than I wanted to spend though I can afford it. Just how much more worth it will it be for me to get one?

How often are you going to be doing photo editing? It's a pretty big percent difference but the amount of time isn't much. Talking anywhere from a few seconds to a couple minutes depending on what filters you will be using.

A single core CPU would be fine although I guess I'd invest in a HT or Dual Coire CPU if it was me and I was going to be only doing 2D editing work and multitasking.

Well Asus thanks for the input. I am going to go the dual core route now possibly the 4400+

I changed my mind again. I am going with the the Athlon 64 3700+ socket 939 as I originally planned. I chose this since the apps I will be using won't even support dual core so why spend the extra money if it's not needed. If I need dual core down the road I know where to get it.

Yeah, I don't think you will miss the extra seconds either.

Ordered all my parts at newegg.com But holy hell it's been 2 days and all that was shipped was the monitor and case. Has newegg always been this slow? I don't remember it being like this when I ordered the parts for my last computer.

Thats odd. Newegg is usually really fast at doing its thing. I ordered all my stuff on a Friday and recieved everything on the Tuesday right after.

Chu maybe you should send them an email theyre #1 in customer support imho.

Is the other stuff coming from a different site? They have one in CA and one in NJ.

And as I just recently found out, one in TN. Hehehe.

They have one in TN too? What did you order that time? I've had monitors come from the NJ one. Most of my PC parts come from CA though.

It was my monitor and I beleive it was my case aswell.

Well no need to worry everything has been shipped today. They just felt the need to inform me several hours after it shipped.
