hey guys searched around the forums and couldnt find an answer

I'm planning on buying the game (obviously) and don't have any internet on my home computer,, I've heard all this stuff about people needing to authorize their copies,, so here's my question

when I buy my copy on the 16th and install it on my computer am I totally screwed because I can't authorize it over the internet? does valve really think that every single person who wants to play it has the intenet?

please tell me I'm mistaken :)

Yup ... internet is required. It's an anti-piracy measure, that, despite what many people would like to shout at you, will work. Sorry mate! Plus you didn't exactly search very well did you :p :p

However, you only need to conenct to the net very briefly to authorize your copy. Are you sure there's no way you can access the net from the PC ur installing on? You could try a free internet access company, or somesorts ...

pick one of those "1000 hours free" AOL cds out of teh trash, dig out a modem along with it, connect, authorize, uninstall AOL!

Noooooo don't install AOL! What is everyone's obsession with AOL here?? I just don't understand it, and you just DON'T NEED TO INSTALL IT. Sorry I'm shouting, I just don't want people's PCs being slowed down by a load of crap software that they don't need :)

Unless I'm very much mistaken, and the way the fones work in good ol' USA is incredibly different to lovely Blighty here, you can just sign up briefly to a free net access service. Normally it'll be just a local fone call price with free sign-up. And in some cases you don't even need to sign up ...
For UK users see www.freeola.net, for example.

Hope that helps. And prevents you from installing ... oh my god it's gonna kill us all ... AOL.

I don't even have a phone line,,

my god this is some bull ish,,,

looks like I'm gonna have to haul my computer to school....

You obviously have access to the internet, as evidenced by the fact that this post exists. Worst case scenario, carry your case/laptop to a friend/school/library with an internet connection, activate, and take it back home.

I took the bus 1 hour to use the internet at a friends house,,

I assumed that would be obvious

Valve decided to make HL2 an "online game".

At least that's what I call it, seeing that you have to have an internet connection in order to activate it in order to play.
