Buying Tablet: What to do?

In time for Saint Nick's holiday I will
Purchase some manner of PC tablet
But what to buy? For choosing, I lack skill.
I need advice. I'm on a low budget.
That is, around one hundred pounds, or more
To an extent - I am not made of cash.
My limit is around one-twenty, or
Otherwise, would my piggy-bank go 'smash'.
So please, stop by to help a friend in need
Or if I am no friend then take no heed.

ebay it... you can get a wacom intuos2 for under $200. You don't need a large tablet, especially if this is your first....the small ones work just as well, are actually easier to place in your lap and maneuver, and take less space.

Yes, stick to Wacom. A graphire is a good cheap option too if the Intuos is over your budget.

I would deffinately look into a Wacom, although I have one of the smaller less exspensive ones I have never been disappointed by it.

I do suggest getting the bigest size you think you'll need and can afford. That's the only thing I regret is buying one with such a small surface.

If you've never used one and your very undecided, go for a dirt cheap genius or packard bell, wont matter then if you hate them.

If you just plan on using it for the odd signature or scribble, get the smallest size there is, thats the only thing those are useful for.

If your semi-serious but strapped for cash, Graphire3 can't go wrong with one of those, A5 size though. Doesn't have the tilt features but tbh thats more annoying than useful, atleast for me.

If your serious and have a big more cash, an Intuos3, A5 if your just a doodler, A4 if your really serious and want to properly draw/paint

If you do a lot of CAD or illustrator type work, A3 Intuos2 or A4 oversized.

Don't bother with those fancy monitor/tablet things that you can draw directly onto, they look pretty but are about the same level as a graphire, just a lot more expensive, not very accurate, and a bunch of other limitations.

Bare in mind that the Intuos3 pens and other tools don't work with Intuos2 and the other way around, and neither work with the Intuos1. But you probably don't need to get a stroke pen anyway as one of the replacement grip pen nibs is a stroke pen, the other a felt tip feeling nib. So just get a replacement nib pack for when the nibs run down, or if you want to remove the pen switches.

They should release some handy tool to switch the pen nibs, I had my hands full when removing the standard one in exchange for the soft brush tip (with the cute little spring).

They "recommend" tweezers, but they don't work for me.. teeth work though hehe

I used a compaq tablet PC with an integrated monitor/tablet and even that had me sold. So yeah, graphire3 sounds about right for me, seeing as I love to do art but I'm still in school and don't have much money. Thanks guys!
