bye bye S.T.A.L.K.E.R?

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC Game World has rubbished recent internet reports suggesting its ambitious PC project is in serious trouble, describing them to us this afternoon as "nothing but a hoax".

In a nutshell, the reports stated that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was still a considerable way off from the finish line and that the game's publisher, THQ, had pulled funding with a view to assuming control of development of the title - potentially placing it into the hands of another studio for completion. Additionally, it was suggested that certain members of GSC's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. development team had been moved to another project while others had been laid off.

However, GSC Game World has now dismissed the reports. "What you're talking about is a completely unjustified rumour which appeared on the net just recently," the developer's senior PR manager Oleg V. Yavorsky told us when queried on this latest S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 'news'. Saying that his entire morning's been spent "clarifying the situation to [the] public today", he added "...the whole buzz is nothing but a hoax."

Yavorsky also assured us that GSC is "working full throttle on completing the game".

"We don't care what shape the game will ship in anymore, - said one of the THQ bosses to an IGN journalist, - the game must ship in 2006".

This is what is wrong with the industry today.

Ok, so then its logical to think that since I haven't heard anything from David Hasselhoff lately that he is dead?! That doesn't sound logical to me. I will wait until his death is officially announced before I believe anything.

LOL! That's one of the stupidest comparisons I've ever heard. David Hasselhoff isn't a video game.

Yeah but just because they haven't released any new media doesn't mean they're dead at all. Maybe they're just...working. On the game. :/

Good to hear that this rumor is false. I've been looking forward to this game for a long time now. :)

No more stalker.......... ????

nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :(

really ?/................... :D

If it does, it won't be the game so many people are hoping for.

All it takes is an interesting concept and some fancy screenshots to send some people into a hype frenzy. Coming from a completely unproven developer, I think Stalker is the best example of this to date.

Well looks like a giant ball of drama, doesnt really surprise me, personally I never got into the hype on this one but I would have given it a shot.

To clarify the concerns of some fans regarding S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-related rumours to have appeared recently on the net, GSC Game World believes it necessary to explain the following:

1. The project is on the stage of beta approval and is being actively developed in close cooperation with the publisher.

2. The team has undergone certain reductions, particularly in the art section, due to all the graphics-related works being almost complete (out of 40 people 5 were dismissed). None of the leads, programmers and moreover, testers may not be reduced at any time.

3. Regarding the technology leak, none of the designers gone has the rights to the game’s engine (all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. technologies, including the X-Ray engine and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-2 engine belong to the company). Even if the current or next-generation engine would appear on the net, their legal use is impossible. GSC does not intend to sell its technologies in the nearest time, so as does not intend to postpone the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl due to rumours of that kind.

Why do alot of people in this thread not read the previous post and just post that they're not surprised that it happend?
IT'S NOT TRUE, GET THAT INTO YOUR HEAD GUYS!

This is why people shouldn't post RUMORS here!

Because there'll always be like 25% of the people who won't bother reading others posts and assume they're true.

And btw, thanks for that CptStern, should clarify things even further.

I have no doubt this will be a good game, while it might or might not be on par with say Oblivion perhaps, you have to keep in mind Bethesda has alot more experience than GSC.
Oh, and don't call me buying into the hype, I'm just simply a faithful fan of this game, I've been following it since 2001, I don't really see the point in giving up until it's released..
And besides that, I've heard from people who've gotten to see STALKER privately(Not from major sites, i.e. not previewers) that it's apparently shaping up nicely, and I feel like beliveing'em.

Does teh intarnets learn peoplez to criticize news "zourzez"?:|

Ah... but he should be.

Personally, I reckon that Stalker would have been better off dying now anyway. That way people aren't delaying the inevitable disappointment that the game will bring when it's actually in their hands and they can continue to romanticise it from the press releases and screenshots. Not the videos. They defy all reason by errornously showing how poor the game actually is.

No, I am just saying that rumours are one of the driving forces behind teh internets in general and forums like these in particular. And let's face it: the development of STALKER is looking more and more like that of Duke Nukem Forever.

Thank god If you think it'll be a good game it must be true!

mortiz, never stated you nor anyone else had to agree with me, ye jerk(Calling someone jerk is my way of expressing deep love and affection towards the person I call it), but I'll rather believe it's as good as people who've actually seen the single player in action and tried some of it, than those who have not.

I guess we'll all see how it turns out Q3 this year.:)

I'm gonna hope for the best, but I won't care all too much if it turns out like shiet, because there're more games than STALKER coming this year that I'm interested in.

And it's atleast an interesting concept(IMO) no matter how it turns out.:)

If you have a problem with me having an opinion then bite me!

Sidenote: God I love Bold.:)

mm, developers confirmed the rumours are fake.

and did i see that right, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-2 ?!

spicy tuna, by 'played it' do you mean the old, old alpha that was leaked ?

And also they're MP...
Any STALKER fan knows the MP ain't the selling point of the game..
The selling point is the open-ended SP experience.

at one point it was the selling point of the game almost as much as the sandbox aspect of the game ...back when co-op was planned ;(

True.. Here's hoping for someone to be able to somehow mod co-op in..
