The gameplay of Clash of the Ages can be compared to a first person Rise of Nations, or Age of Empires or Civilization. We aim to bring the strategy and thrill of RTS titles together with the immersion and detail of FPS titles. CA is unique in the sense that it brings the cooperation of something like Natural Selection to the evolving RTS realm. Just like in a title such as Civilization multiple nations fight for power through history. For our mod to be more enjoyable, since most people don’t have 3 or 4 hours to play a game as deep as Rise of Nations, ours will be more simplified in the areas of resource gathering, research territory expansion and structure building. When playing players will join one of the 3 teams and all teams begins as barbarians and when they meet the necessary requirements to advance, they are prompted to choose what nation to become. There are 6 nations to choose from, they are England, Germany, America, Turkey, Rome and Japan. Each team has a King who orchestrates his teams’ development, their structures to be built, upgrades to be researched and minerals gathered. Clash of the Ages promises to be the First Person Real Time Strategy title of world domination!
 
As for the site design, I have no idea. It is just something we have til we get the final site design up. I can show you some more concept design that I have so far, for how it is going to go.

Map Style:
There will be approximately 8 maps upon first release. Each map is outdoors and varies in size. There are small maps for 2-18 players, medium for 18-30, and large for 30-64 players. Most maps will have a unique terrain style to give the feel of a large and vibrant world. Each map will have 3 teams on it and varying “resources” required to get upgrades and to advance through the ages.
The unique terrain styles include:
-The “Black Forest”: a vivid array of open plains, bodies of water, trees and hills, a “default” or common tile set
-The Mesa: a very open and plain checkerboard like terrain, somewhat arid and 10% cliffs and raised fragments
-The Coast: a rugged compilation of coastal lowlands and some impassible hills and mountains
-The Grey: mostly rugged hills and low mountains; level to rolling plains and a damp climate for low visibility
-The Upland: fairly level but rocky terrain with rivers and small hills
-The Tears: 5 long, fairly thin Islands placed “randomly” throughout the map. Each team starts on one, leaving 2 to be captured

Nations:
There are 6 nations to choose from in the first release. The 3 teams all start as Barbarian and choose what nation to be on their first advance. Each nation has 4 weapons for each age, yet most “insignificant” weapons are shared. If the team didn’t exist at that time or had nothing notable to signify them then they use “default” weapons. Each nation also has its own unique characteristics. These characteristics become more prominent through each age.

Unique Characteristics:

England: extreme-range weapons are 100% accurate; most weapons are long range killers

Germany: weapons are close range and hard hitting, range weapons are have less range but deal a heavy amount of damage in close quarters

America: first to acquire firearms and automatic weapons and are the only ones to have machine guns, likewise they can carry 25% more ammunition as a result

Turkey: explosive weapons deal 50% more damage and have 25% greater splash damage

Japan: Melee weapons deal 50% more damage, and movement noise is reduced 50%

Rome: sacrifice 1 weapon to exclusively have a Shield in every age and when used absorbs 50% of conventional damage when used, but weapons cannot be used while shield is up. Movement speed is 15% slower due to shield

We intend this to be a game where you cannot play without teamwork. Setting ammounts of resources based on the ammount of players, along with frags and certain other things, to evolve and upgrade, you will need a combination of people defending your base, attacking the opposing base, and getting what is required of your team to advance beyonds the other teams capabilities. If everyone Attacks, then nobody will be defending, and nobody will be collecting resources for you to advance. If everyone defends then the game wouln't go very far, and if everyone collects resources your team will be dead in the first 10 minutes.

BTW: I think that Source Machinma project is cool ;)
 
no no no

there are 3 nations, all fighting each other. hence a 3 way war. more then 3 might be too much.
and the maps arent really "random" the map type names and styles describe the type of settings of each nation in our mod. so every map is based off of one of those countries. a few maps might possibly blend all those settings together to make a "world map" kinda thing, thats not really the shape of the world but... yeah

the only fire arm america receives first is a musket and nothing else, and only one age before everyone else. so in theory its not "omq hax0rz" since all the other nations have crossbows and bow and arrow etc.

and the percentages are just floating numbers that we aim for, they prolly wont be exact but we will aim around there.

and even in an era such as WW1 or WW2, all the nations still fight each other even if they were allied in history

Scott, could you refer to your mod at CotA or CoA rather then CA? Even with the - in the middle, its still confusing. Corporate Anarchy has been using CA initials since I started the project last july, and while a hl2 fan is smart enough to know the difference between Clash of the Ages and Corporate Anarchy, if they both try using CA or C-A, theres bound to be confusion.

Btw, I do like your website design.
 
well we didnt know about Corpoate Anarchy until now.

sorry for the confusion, we will try to use CotA instead of CA or C-A wherever possible, but something cant be undone, but oh well :p
