IGN: Tell us about the setting and the story, and is it directly related or connected to the events of the last game, or is it a completely different timeline?

Chris Corry: I touched on that time travel theme. The events that kick off Red Alert 3 really come back to that. Our story opens with the Allies and the Soviets going at it again, but this time the Allies have beaten the Soviets back and have the upper hand. The Soviet leadership is cowering behind the walls of the Kremlin; their defeat is imminent and all but certain. At that point, sort of crazed with desperation, the leadership descends into the bowels of the Kremlin into their secret labs where they have this skunk works project going on. They fire up this prototype of this device which is a time machine that's never been used before. And their intention is to go back in time and erase Albert Einstein from the timeline. Of course, Albert Einstein in the previous games has been instrumental in the technological advances that made the Allies so successful...

There actually hasn't been a Red Alert game for a little while now; it's been seven years. It's kind of interesting reintroducing the world to Red Alert. For those who are already familiar with Red Alert games and their place in the C&C universe, certainly Red Alert 3 is going to be everything that the hardcore fans have been looking for. It's going to have that trademark, light, humorous, fun, Saturday matinee popcorn feel to it, with live-action cinematics and all these great actors chewing up the stage.

Available on PC, PS3, X360

I might get this one. I like the style of Red Alert a lot better than the tiberian stuff. Is it gonna be stand-alone or an expansion?

I like the cartoony style they have. I'm sick of realistic bullshit in most games.

Yeah, light, humorous fun of Gradenko reporting on several hundred dead people in the tests of the Sarin nerve gas or Tanya's interrogation featuring famous KGB fun techniques!

I've never laughed so much since I was touring the Auschwitz concentration camp!

On a more serious note, the over-the-top comical style was introduced in RA2, it wasn't a founding feature of Red Alert.

But... but... if you kill Einstein... they can't make a time machine... *head explodes*

Yeah, if Einstein dies ... no Chronosphere ... he never kills Hitler ... WW2 still happens and the time line was never changed much in the first place. Unless they kill him after he kills Hitler, which is a possibility I guess ... but I'm not sure it would have had much of an effect on the outcome of the war. This doesn't make much sense.

Then again, it's Red Alert, it's not supposed to make sense. All the C&C games are incredibly corny and full of cheese and ridiculousness ... they might as well embrace it rather than play it straight and end up with the unintentionally terrible mess that was the C&C3 cut scenes.

New style is too sci-fi for my liking. The screenshots I've seen so far make me think of Starcraft 2.

Is it gonna be stand-alone or an expansion?

That's like asking if Starcraft 2 is going to be an expansion pack to Starcraft 1.

Of course it's standalone since it's a major new release.

I can't wait for it. I always played RA2 on LAN!

I'm quite confused by the plot of this. If they kill einstein then the time line was never changed much in the first place. :|

Killing Einstein would not cause a paradox more than Einstein removing Hitler did.

Sigh... Well it looks like if I am to enjoy this game I'll have to do the same thing I did with C&C 3, pretend it's something else entirely that doesn't have anything to do with C&C...:|

And I ****ing hate the cartoon style.

Story sounds somewhat convoluted and I liked the gritty crappiness of graphics that was part of RA1 and RA2 (:D), but I'll still pick it up as I am a very old fan of RA.

If you're trying to make sense of the plot in the RA series, then you're basically missing the point. What you should be looking forward to is just lots of tanks, crazy units, nukes, chronospheres, Tanya, etc. and to see who can build the most tanks the fastest.

One word pretty much sums up the entire series, rush*.

*preferably with inexplicably large amounts of tanks

Bah. Current style seems a little too bright and cheerful. Go take more reference pics of RA2, kthx!

Bah. Current style seems a little too bright and cheerful. Play RA1 again, go back to the drawing board and unbreak RA3

RA is about crushing the enemy with more tanks than God has and making infantry almost totally ineffective.

And if you get to strafe civilians as they run from advancing soviet troops, execute spies by firing squad and pan out from rows upon rows of crosses, stars of david and plain head stones all the better.

Hate to break it to you Bob, but the old Red Alert died when RA2 was conceived.

I wonder will we get a new, different commando-type unit but the the exact same name and abilities? :P
