Don't know about cable myself, but I'm happy with my 2mb/s ADSL, 240kb/s download rate.
As someone said, it sure beats dial up.

'whats better, cable or dsl?' is not a valid question.

there are some really crappy cable internet connections, and some really crappy dsl internet connections. there are some really reliable and fast cable connections, there are some really reliable and fast dsl connections.

its simply not a question that can be definitively answered. the better question would be, what is the best connection i can get in my area with the money i want to spend?

the answer to that can be obtained by doing research. asking people in your area, checking out websites like dslreports, seeing peoples opinions, and visiting the forums, calling around. some ISPs let you test an internet connection for a short while as well. if you want to get a good deal on a great internet connection in your area, you need to do research.

Both have pros and cons. I actually just switched from cable to dsl. Main reason for me was all of the outages and slowdowns during the day.

My cable was faster tho on the dl had 4mb down and 384 up. While my dsl line is 3mb down and 768 up.

Overall I am happy with dsl, it suits my needs. The only time I miss my cable is when I have to download huge files. I get about 350 kbps with dsl whereas I could get 450 500 kbps with cable.

So in short, get what works for you, and fits your budget. Also remember that dsl is a dedicated line, whereas cable speeds can/do vary in speed.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

i work for a DSL ISP and I'd prefer cable, better speed for the bucks, just gotta take into mind how many people will be using the cable line, DSL is better than it's more dedicated but phone companies suck. Loop length matters with DSL as well and the quality of copper in the line, but yeah I'd go for cable.
