Of course they have. Any sign of success with a video game and they go into frickin overdrive with them till they bleed the game series dry. I'm sure Splinter Cell will end somewhere in the region of Splinter Cell 12 for example.

Edit: With Infinity Ward's track record a new IP probably means adding another 'dynamic' to 'another' WWII based shooter and giving it a slightly different name no doubt.
