This is about the PC version of the game.

Well, i've been playing my friend's PS3 copy a bit recently, and have become very fond of Old School and the brilliant over exaggerated rag-doll deaths.

Anyway, I came home and tried to find it on my copy because I had so much fun, and I couldn't find ANY servers. Firstly, the crappy PC mode search didn't have Old School has an option.. so I had to search through every server - only to find there were no "Old School" names.

Does anyone know how to find them?

Im pretty sure its pot-luck as to what modes are used on each server, I for one didnt know you could search for them at all. Maybe only on the PS3 version?

There are tons of choices on the console versions!

The matchmaking interface is so much better!

im not getting what your asking here.....

matchmaking just finds people in a game mode you want for you.

i have not really seen any difference in pc and xbox360.

There are some, just very rare. Use gametrackers or similar online searcher, looking for "Old School" or "OS", etc... Should be able to find a handful at reasonable ping.

Thanks alot!

I'll try that out.

All the server names depict what game mode you play...at least, any semi-decent server does.

explain what you mean by "old school"

Wikipedia said:
Old School Free-for-all - There are no classes. Weapons are pickups, health is under a gauge form and can be increased with medipacks, and jumps are higher. This mode emulates traditional multiplayer first-person shooters such as Quake and Unreal Tournament, and to a degree, previous versions of Call of Duty.
+

That, I think.

I hate the fact you can't filter out hardcore/normal servers if you want.
Also you can't use the server browser if you are in a game, and if I
refresh my favorites more then two times they disappear.

It really is terrible. I would far prefer the console matchmaking instead of the server list.

Anyway, I tried finding servers on Xfire with Oldschool, or OS, but no luck :(

If you get COD4 on steam, can you search for servers through steam's browser?

Oh wow, I had no idea Old School was anything like that. I just played a few games - well fun. :D

But I can see the attractin wearing off, so I'll stick to Team Hardcore.

Nope, it's broken as ****. As of the last patch, a "fix" has made it close to impossible for players outside of America to find a decent game because of the way it decides the host now. That and American players have to deal with angry foreigners jumping out of their games en masse because they don't want to have to put up with the lag, thus ending them prematurely. So yeah. Fun for everyone.

The most rewarding thing to do is:

*Follows random player*
*Pulls the pin on grenade*
*Stands behind random player*
*Waits about 2 seconds till explosion*
*Moves into the view of player*
*OH SHI-*
*BOOOOOOM*

Both your bodies get mangled whilst you fly into the air. I've won a server by doing kills like that for all 125 points :)

The CoD4 server browser is junk and the worst thing is, is that it hasn't changed since CoD1. :\

Wait what, I don't recall being able to hold onto a grenade... you just hit a button and a nade is thrown.

But I haven't played CoD4 in a while, too busy.

+1, I guess I'm used to Steams browser.

If you hold down the button the grenades timer counts down while you hold it. If timed right you can get the nade to go off right next to someone before they have a chance to throw it back or run away. There are a couple of challenges that use this, the one where you have to commit suicide while killing someone else by not letting go of the grenade and sneaking up on someone is hilarious.

Just out of interest, can you play 4 player offline on the PS3 version?
